Re: Kitten behaviour

We've just had confrontations, pouncing, swiping and hissing tonight! Luckily it's bedtime and we can separate them for the night. I know it's completely normal to have confrontations, but it's more stressful than I'd imagined! I'm mostly worried about our older cat, especially as Kevin grows and ex...

Re: Kitten behaviour

Our 1 1/2 year old cat is going out less this week as its turned cold and wet, daytime isn't an issue but in the evenings we're trying to bring them together for periods of time so they get used to each other and because I feel awful shutting the older one out. Kevin shows normal behaviours and does...

Re: Kitten behaviour

We try to make sure he has wet and dry down at all times; as soon as he finishes a bowl we refill. I also give him kitten milk as well as water. I was told at a pet food shop today that dry is better for kittens as wet is 80% water so they get more nutrients etc per bite from dry, is this right? He ...

Re: Kitten behaviour

Also does anyone have any tips on helping our little guy gain weight? We know treats aren't the healthiest addition asctheyre full of fat. He's on whiskas kitten food, kitten dry biscuits and every day has a bit of kitten milk. He has a very healthy appetite but when he went for his first vaccinatio...

Kitten behaviour

Hi all, we have a fairly shy 1 1/2 year old cat who we felt was lonely as it was her first time living as an only cat when she came to us. We got a kitten 2 weeks ago who is now 10 weeks old. Apart from hisses when he gets too close and one or two swipes, she seems to be tolerating him and allowing ...

Argh I spoke too soon Kevin pee'd on our beanbag this afternoon. Put him straight into his litter tray. I think he just got himself over excited!

Re: My 10 week year old kitten keeps weeing behind the tv!

Maybe he's not a solo kitty and is lonely...get another!! :-) Molly did a wee on our bed, 2 wees on a sofa cushion and a poo in the spare bedroom when we first got her. I think it's the easiest way for them to mark territory, and if his mum didn't teach him well enough about litter ettiquette then h...

Also there's a thread recently that's about a 3 month old kitten weeing one someone's bed, there's some good advice on there might be worth a look.

Re: My 10 week year old kitten keeps weeing behind the tv!

I don't think Kay for a minute was suggesting you're a bad mum. I totally get that kittens are naughty, we have a 10 week old too who we got at 9 weeks and we have to constantly watch him as he has a bit of a cable chewing problem! How about getting a 2nd litter tray to put behind the tv temporarily...

Kitten heart murmur

Hi all, we recently added to our fur family by adopting an adorable now 10 week old kitten called Kevin. He went to the vet for his first vaccinations and health check today, and the vet mentioned that he had a slight heart murmur. She didn't seem worried and said they usually grow out of it? I just...

Re: Bit Worried my rescue cats still seem very nervous

Molly isn't a lap cat at all, she prefers the floor wherever she is! She hides from everyone, even my husband sometimes! Maybe Katie just knows humans aren't a threat so doesn't feel the need to hide.

Re: Bit Worried my rescue cats still seem very nervous

Our rescue cat Molly is 1, we also got her in August. When we first got her she hid for a week only coming out to eat and use the litter tray. She's so much more confident now but still hates being picked up and doesn't really seem to know how to play or show affection other than rolling on the floo...

Re: 8 weekly kitten v cat flap!

Things are still going fairly well, no attacks so far! Little man is getting braver and Molly is letting him come a little bit closer before she growls/hisses. We're giving her lots of love and attention so she knows she's not being replaced, but her nose is definitely out of joint. Does anyone have...

Re: 8 weekly kitten v cat flap!

Molly's upstairs asleep so Kevin's exploring the living room. He's definitely a lot more playful and affectionate than Molly, just shows the difference in upbringing at an early age. I hope Molly learns to like him, he looks so scared when she hissed at him. I guess one day he will be bigger than he...

Re: 8 weekly kitten v cat flap!

Yep he will definitely be inside until he's vaccinated, first batch are booked 3rd November as our vets won't start them before 9 weeks. He will also be flead and wormed then as I'm unsure how much to give him. On the pictures front I've got quite a few of both of them but they're too big to upload ...

Re: 8 weekly kitten v cat flap!

Introductions are going well I think!! Kevin quickly learned that the big crate was his safe place. Molly came home soon after he got here, and there were a few hisses from her. She kept going up to him and hissing, is that normal? He just puffed up and looked intimidated, then started eating his di...

Re: 8 weekly kitten v cat flap!

Dog crate set up good so far, I got a big one so we've got his litter tray, a house and his food/water in there plus room for him to play at the front. I've separated his food and litter at opposite ends as I know cats don't like to eat and poop in the same place! Hopefully he will like it!

Re: 8 weekly kitten v cat flap!

We will be getting his vaccinations within 2-3 days of getting him; we're having him now because for whatever reason the mum has started to be violent towards the 2 remaining kittens in her litter. They're fully weaned. I would keep them apart but we live in quite a small house so total isolation is...

8 weekly kitten v cat flap!

We've got an indoor/outdoor cat, and today we're getting an 8 week old kitten. He hasn't had his vaccinations yet (hopefully this week) so obviously he can't go out; will he have the strength to use the cat flap? I thought to buy a big dog crate for him at night when we can't watch him but is this n...

Re: Should we get our cat a new friend?

Will do. We said yes to the kitten, picking him up tomorrow. My only issue is that we live in a small terraced house which isn't really practical for separating them all the time. We can put him in the living room at night to stop him getting out the flap but does anyone have any advice on introduct...

Re: Should we get our cat a new friend?

So we've come back from honeymoon, Molly has definitely put on weight but I thinkvthats just from being a greedy piggy at the cattery and not that she's pregnant!! Still no confirmation that she's neutered though. Anyway, we potentially found a new friend for her!! An old work colleague of mine has ...

Re: Pregnancy suspicions and change in behaviour

My husband and I have only ever owned neutered cats, the sanctuary assured us it had been done but now they're saying it was done prior to her coming to them and there's no paperwork, I'm waiting to hear a definitive answer from them. We'll see how she looks when we get home from holiday, if she's a...

Re: Pregnancy suspicions and change in behaviour

She hasn't put any more weight on and my husband says I'm being paranoid!! But we've spoken to the cattery and they're happy to take her, I can't get in the vets before we go away so it will be a case of seeing how she is while we're away. If she was, my brother and sister in law are desperate for a...

Re: Pregnancy suspicions and change in behaviour

We got the cat flap fitted about a month after getting her so she's been going out for about 4 weeks. Previously she would just go out for an hour or so and come back in but she's out all the time now. I initially put her weight gain down to just getting more food as she was skinny when we got her. ...

Re: Pregnancy suspicions and change in behaviour

Yes, she's always been vocal but the last 2 weeks she's been much more so, not constantly but like a loud yowling that we couldn't figure out what she wants or didn't seem to want anything in particular, then went outside! Neither myself or my husband have experience of a cat in heat so we didn't re...

Re: Should we get our cat a new friend?

I think so, although the last 2 days she's only spent about an hour in the house so getting her could be an issue!
