Re: Tails of the radioactive cat (or Mouse.) Radio-iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism

I read somewhere that older cats benefit from smaller more frequent meals, so I divide Tiffany's pouches up now, and set out two half meals in a timer overnight result a happier cat and licked clean dishes every time, and no noisy food demands in the morning before I want to get up Good thinking, g...

Re: Paid Help Wanted - Experienced Cat Owners/Veterinary Nurses

Thanks for your message Mollycat. I've already tried all the usual things like leaving the carrier out so it becomes part of the furniture, making it into a little den for her, leaving treats in it etc etc etc but she won't go near it. I've also tried Feliway and similar things but they don't help,...

They never really leave us do they. She's doing good thanks, has taken the habit of spending mornings under the bed which could be the memory of being taken away for morning appointments I don't know. Still figuring out what's best for a new diet, my current thinking in carry on with normal food unt...

Aw lovely Elsa. And a Naughty Tortie in your avatar too, I have such a soft spot for Torties.

Did Elsa have much purrsonality change after her treatment?

And has anyone had potassium deficiency?

Re: Tails of the radioactive cat (or Mouse.) Radio-iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism

I did read up a lot and Molly had all the signs - except weight loss. Night-time yowling, restlessness, anxiety, aggression especially food aggression, food obsession. All from the day I got her. I have even tried to find out whether stress can bring it on and it seems possible via the adrenal syste...

Well, I guess that's just Molly changing her attitude towards you. Last night she had cuddle time with my partner for over an hour until he moved to go to bed ... until now he has barely been able to sneak a stroke of her head as he walks past her on her perch. He has lived with us for 18 months an...

Re: Tails of the radioactive cat (or Mouse.) Radio-iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism

Even if she gives you what they call the black paw on her return ... I think they gave me back the wrong cat. I looks like my cat, its miaow is a little less squeaky but it still sounds like my cat. It has the same favourite beds and plays the same games and asks for cuddles the same unique way as ...

Re: Maybe it’s time ,

We love all our cats but sometimes there is one who for whatever reason takes a piece of our heart when they go. One of mine, the only one I had from 6 weeks old till she was 16, who ended her life in my arms at home 15 years ago, is till sorely missed 5 cats later. At the time, it sent me into full...

Re: Paid Help Wanted - Experienced Cat Owners/Veterinary Nurses

I was going to put a load of helpful suggestions as I have the same nightmare with mine, hence she didn't see a vat for 3 years and when we managed to get there (very poorly) we ran full bloods and a got a very expensive surprise. But, then I re-read and saw your health issues. I don't wish to pry, ...

My next option is to try different foods, as he has been on Whiskas dry biscuit his whole life, and I wonder if perhaps he has recently gone through an internal phase of no longer processing the biscuits properly? I've always avoided Whiskas, the tins seem to produce awful smells. Butchers tins are...

We have a dog who can't stand the phones. I think it's the pitch of the ringing and strange sharp noise of talking through it as well. He never had a problem before apparently, only since moving in with me. He tends to get gummy ears sometimes. Have you ruled out the possibility of your cat having s...

Re: Why Does My Cat Throw Up Dry Food?

If your hunch is right and he does have some kind of partial blockage, I would avoid giving him dry until he has seen the vet. Dry food tends to be harder to digest (like dry crackers) because the moisture in food helps it go down. Hairballs are a tricky issue with cats, nobody like clearing them up...

Re: Tails of the radioactive cat (or Mouse.) Radio-iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism

It's amazing how much muscle Molly has lost despite the overall weight gain. She has lost 300g in there through stress and is still overweight. This will be interesting. Just got to put a stop to this yo-yo weight, 4.5/6-ish, 4.3, 4.5, 5.2, 4.9 ... all since November, though peak was a proper porker...

Re: Tails of the radioactive cat (or Mouse.) Radio-iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism

Lady Mollipops is home, and as predicted under the bed, with some tuna water because it was warm in the car and she showed signs of either overheating or stress, either way this will help. Very vocal all the way home even hissed a couple of times, just to let me know I've picked up the right cat. Th...

Re: Royal Canin Urinary dry food - vet or non-vet?

Are you buying this food from the vet? They bump up the price quite a bit and usually push a particular brand. For price you can try somewhere like petdrugsonline, that's where we get all our prescription food from and parasite products between a third and a half off vet prices. There are others lik...

Dry food is full of things that cats wouldn't naturally eat Very true, although there isn't much in the lives of our pets that is natural. Medication, parasite control, selective breeding, neutering, dentals, indoor life, euthanasia, cosy beds, friendly interaction with another species, grooming, l...

Lady Grey sure is A One, hopefully a one-off! Don't tell anyone but she is likely to spend her days under the bed and her nights out marauding around the flat, so she won't technically be in the bedroom while we sleep, only because she isn't into sharing the bed with two of us plus the dog and the o...

Re: How long can you leave it between yearly jabs?

How long is a piece of string? Catteries normally expect jabs to be up to date and some will ask to see proof, they may not like it if it's gone over or going over while the cat is in their care so they may expect you to get it done before you go. However this is a very short sighted and outdated ap...

Molly is due home tomorrow at 1pm, 2 weeks to the precise hour when I dropped her off. She took the move from the hot cat ward to the cool cat ward badly, as I expected, with a bout of the squits (sorry) and a hunger strike that took 3-400 grams off her (even the vagueness of this figure concerns me...

HI Amanda, we had a cat similar, kept going bald on hind quarters but not tail. But she also got scabs. Re: Cat of the Baskervilles..not!

My thoughts for what they're worth, as Ruth says any original big cats released in the 70s would now be long gone and the chances of cubs would have been slim. Also, there would be a lot more livestock attacks and it would be one eaten, not killed and left, and certainly not several maimed or killed...

Molly is off the Hot Cat ward and on the Cool Cat ward, as of yesterday morning.
