Re: Cat Asthma?

Thanks andtiggertoo :) I've booked him in for next week so we'll see if we can get to the bottom of it... if it is asthma at least there's treatment for it. He's insured with PetPlan too so hopefully I'll be able to get any long term treatment covered. I hope the fact I mentioned it to the vet a few...

Cat Asthma?

Hey guys, is anyone familiar with Cat Asthma at all? I'm going to take Harvey in to the vets next week to get some tests done I think as I have a feeling he may have this but there's no way to be sure until the vets rule out other things. He's been quite a coughy cat since I got him as a baby (he's ...

Re: Simple solution v Urine-Off - any experience?

Yeah given you have to dilute it I should imagine it lasts aaaaaaaaaaages so is probably worth the money, especially if it works! :) It could well be the same product, I'm sure there aren't that many enzyme products around. Plenty of urine stain removers but they're not the same as enzymes! Good luc...

Re: Simple solution v Urine-Off - any experience?

My mum found Bio-K20 recently and says it's a miracle product - she's got a cat who pees all over the place as he's ultra territorial. She says she tried it on the curtains as they were sticky to touch and you couldn't get near them due to the smell - she said the next day they felt like new to touc...

Re: [Midlothian] Considering a rescue - what do you think?

Ahhh that's not far from me at all haha, cat party!! I visited the one in London not long after it opened and if Edinburgh copies their model then it'll be fantastic. Their cats are the most happy, laid back cats I've ever had the pleasure of encountering and there are very strict house rules in pla...

Re: [Midlothian] Considering a rescue - what do you think?

 I live in Dalkeith but I work in Edinburgh next door to the Omni Centre. Thankfully a few of the people I work with are cat people so I don't feel too cat-ladyesque; I only moved here recently after living in the midlands for 10 years :D Did you see they're trying to open a cat cafe in Edinbur...

Re: [Midlothian] Considering a rescue - what do you think?

Haha yay, a fellow Edinburgh cat person :D I've had a look at both and they both look ideal so if I decide to go down this route I'll be contacting them to see if they have anyone who's looking for my kind of home :)

IKEA cat hacks...

OK so I recently bought a house and as I no longer have a landlord I figured I could add some cat hacks to my home. I was always concerned about doing anything to the walls in rentals but also concerned about making my home look "catty" for inspections too so I stayed away from doing anyth...

Re: i know of cruelty case but not sure what to do

I'd just phone up the number and pretend to be interested in taking on a kitten; don't let on you already got one from them. Get their address by suggesting you might arrange a viewing and then give it to the RSPCA, let them handle it.

Re: [Midlothian] Considering a rescue - what do you think?

Thanks guys :) Yeah the plan was always to get a rescue if I were going to do it as I want to offer a home to a cat who's stuck in a shelter, I don't just want "another cat" for my sake; it's for the boys and for the welfare of the rescue cat who would otherwise be stuck in a cattery. If f...

[Midlothian] Considering a rescue - what do you think?

Hey everyone :) So I have two cats already, I've had them since they were babies. Clive, a very playful ginger tom 6 years old and Harvey, a less playful but very clingy 4 year old grey tabby boy. I love them to bits and we have a good thing going on right now so I'm unsure whether or not it's wise ...

Flea treatment for cat who reacts to spot on

Hey guys, my cat Harvey is a bit of a pain to flea/worm. He reacts very badly to spot on treatments - as soon as I snap the top off the container his eyes start to close up and he looks really pained, even if he's on the other side of the room. As soon as I apply the treatment his eyes water and he ...

Re: Catching mice & birds

The key is to persist with collars - I use the Ancol Safety Collars as they come off if they're caught on anything but are sturdy enough that my boys can't just claw them off unless they're really cheesed off. Clive wouldn't wear a collar in the early days but I kept a stock of them and everytime I ...

Re: 2 cats and moving while rented harder than 1?

Two cats instead of one makes no difference in my experience. I rented and moved around with two cats for years without issue. If they're giving you permission for 1 then a second really makes no difference to them as far as risk to the property goes. Just continue down the usual route of offering t...

Re: Cat Proofing the Garden

Hmm I am a little concerned about whether or not it's going to work which is why I was hoping for your experiences. They're 4 and 6 and both have always been able to roam in the past. This is a new house and a new garden though so I figured maybe if they haven't experienced it yet then they'll be mo...

Re: Cat Proofing the Garden

Thanks guys :) Sarah, that's not as bad as I was expecting to be honest, especially if you had some complexities in the garden too! I can imagine the temptation to just let someone else fit it all properly for you; my garden isn't going to be particularly complex but I'm still tempted to let someone...

Re: Catching mice & birds

Yeah as has already been stated really.. Mine have bells on their collars and I don't let them out until the sun is fully up and I try to get them in before dusk. They stay in at night. I also make sure they're well fed and have access to food all day so if they're hunting it's purely out of the ins...

Re: Cat Proofing the Garden

Thank you both! I had a look at the Protectapuss too; it looks very similar to secur-a-cat so I'm not sure what the pros and cons are of each, but knowing that they work is a very good start as I was a little dubious about just how cat proof they are ;) Sarah, would you mind giving me a rough idea o...

Cat Proofing the Garden

Hey everyone! I know this one comes up every now and then and I've never been in a position to really consider it myself but I'm currently in the process of buying my first home. It turns out my new house is a perfect candidate for cat proofing the garden as it has a rectangular garden off the back ...
