Re: Lost my beloved cat this afternoon

Please try not to blame yourself, your were doing everything you could to give her the best life possible. Unfortunately accidents happen and it doesn't matter if it is a young cat running in front of a car, or as happened to one of my Mother's several years ago, the car turned onto the drive and he...

Welcome to the forum and I am so sorry it isn't in better circumstances. What you are saying makes perfect sense and wanting to write it down perfectly normal, everyone here will understand and many have been through similar experiences. All I can do is back up what Bobby's Girl and Mayday have said...

Re: Kitten with aggression problems

Poor thing, I've had infection in my mouth and teeth and it is really painful, no wonder it was making her grumpy. My Saturn is another that will eat anything in sight and frequently would push the others away from food bowls to eat theirs, even before he had cleaned his bowl. People always seem con...

Re: Introducing new kittens

When two young cats play fight it can seem very violent and include an awful lot of noise , but is often just play. My advise would be to carefully monitor these 'attacks' but try not to get involved if possible as long as no one is getting injured. Also be careful when intervening, even if it is on...

Re: Introducing new kittens

Its so easy for someone to write about slow introductions and keeping them separate, but with small houses and busy lives, I do wonder just how many people really follow it, I know I didn't, I did my best but the only room we can use to keep a cat separate is the lounge. If you do have a room you ca...

I am so sorry to read this, after everything you tried and did for poor Grany. At least he had a couple of good months with you rather than wasting away in the shelter.

I really feel for your loss, there is something about Ragdolls, they are so cuddly and loving. We lost our Blue about 18 months ago and I still miss him, its only normal, they are so much part of the family. Be warned though, 18 months on and I can still drop something, and find it is covered in Rag...

Re: Pulling stairs instead of cat scratcher

I have to admit that very few of the scratching posts I have seen are suitable for an adult cat unless they are part of a big cat tree, the cat just pulls them over. The best I have found are the cardboard box sratchers, or a board that is screwed firmly into the wall. Unfortunately while mine do us...

Re: Help with cat peeing indoors

When we first had Blue, our Ragdoll, he was a 3 year old rescue who had always lived indoors. As all my cats have access to outside, I decided he would as well. We adopted him in January, by the Spring he was happily coming and going through the catflap, and by the Summer the litter tray was sitting...

Re: Soft cat treats

I've tried Dreamies and she will sometimes eat them, other times leave them on the floor, the same with Tiger sticks, which I would assume are similar to the Webbox ones. I think our vets do tend to be on the side of caution when it comes to anaesthetic, as well as balancing the odds of doing it too...

Soft cat treats

I decided to see if you lot had any bright ideas for soft cat treats, either bought or home made. My grumpy granny, Tiggy, is going a bit thin around the hips and i would like to give her extra bits of food when the other two aren't around. She is about 13/14 years old and her teeth aren't in the be...

Re: Kitten with aggression problems

The first thought is, is she teething again? With what happened with the canines she is obviously at the age for it, if she is then, from what I understand, it is normal to start biting more. It doesn't excuse her behaviour but it might explain it. Getting some of the larger cat chew/kick toys might...

Re: My new additions

You can never replace a cat you have lost, whether it was to accident, old age or illness, but new arrivals can help fill the gap, and it is surprising how often the right cat comes along just as you are thinking you might be ready for another cat. That pair look absolutely gorgeous and I think you ...

Sounds like is wasn't a case that the 2 girls didn't get on with the boy, but that one got on with him too well :)

I can't give any advise having never dealt with a pregnant cat, but I can wish Mabel (Maud) all the best and hope it all goes smoothly for her and her kittens.

Re: Buying cat food in bulk...

I have bought for charities on occasion from both Amazon and Pet Supermarket, but you really have to watch the prices. The other one I would recommend if you have storage space it to keep an eye out if you have an Asda near you, they normally have pet food on offer about once a month, normally at th...

Re: Safe food for cats ie chicken etc

While no expert on it, I would have thought any type of poultry would be alright. For white fish, Coley used to be a good choice, it has a fairly strong flavour which is why it isn't all that popular, which also means it tends to be cheap. Also check the freezer sections the fish there is often chea...

It sounds like you have had a really tough year and a lot to deal with emotionally, it's no wonder you are feeling so cut up about things, then having to make the decision to have a cat put to sleep has just given a focus to all those emotions. It won't help much to hear it, but everything you are f...

Re: Kitten with aggression problems

I have to say I think you are doing wonderfully with a kitten that has had a rough start in life, and personally I can understand why you asked the owners to have her back until she was 12 weeks, but I am glad they refused, I think she will be far better with you to teach her manners. What you are d...

Poor girl, it sounds like she has had a bit of a hard time in her life and it will take time for her to settle in with you, five days isn't that long. We had one of my current cats about 18 months ago when she was about 6 years old. The rescue mentioned they thought she had been badly treated (she h...

Re: Flea Treatment Alert!

It isn't local, they don't know how many packs were mislabelled and where they ended up. I first saw it on an American site I follow, then it came up as a UK wide warning. The more publicity it gets though the better. So if ANYONE has any Armitage flea treatment for cats then take it back straight a...

Re: allergies and bumps on skin

My first thought is have you seen any evidence of fleas, either you spotting them around the house, dead or alive, or the vet combing the cat to show you the fleas or the flea dirt on a bit of paper. If you haven't seen anything, and are using the Advantage at the recommended intervals then I would ...

Re: Training to use a cat flap

Some cats seem to be naturals with cat flaps others seem to have real problems coming to terms with the idea that they can be used to get in and out. We had Freyja and Saturn for over a year before Freyja would use the cat flap, Saturn had taken straight to it and was in and out like a yoyo, Tiggy o...

One thing I will mention, which may be obvious to some people more at home in the digital age, make sure you save your photos in several locations. Before Blue I had always used an old film camera, after he died, I realised that virtually all the photos I had taken of him were all on one laptop that...

The joy of cat fur it gets everywhere and it doesn't matter how hard we try to eradicate it lurks in dark corners ready to pounce on the unsuspecting owner. Our worst culprit was Blue, my frequently mentioned Ragdoll. Long fine pale fur, that used to form tumbleweeds over the laminate floor, and tur...

I am so sorry for you, a year is no age for a cat. However try and concentrate on how good a year it was for him, all the times you saw him obviously happy. I have been lucky, so far I haven't lost one to an accident (touching wood like mad), however not long after I left my parents home, they lost ...

If she is getting hurt you need to intervene, that last thing you want is vets bills due to fighting, and getting hurt will only make her associate the garden with pain. If you do intervene try and take something like a cushion or a pillow that you can use to try and separate them, doing it with you...

Re: Kitty refuses to let us sleep in - tried everything. Need help! SOS!

What you are doing is the right thing and the hardest part is that you must be strong and ignore her cries, every time you give in and go and see her when she is calling you, you reinforce the behaviour. She has got used to the idea of you getting up at 3.30 - 4.00 and that is what she now expects. ...
