Re: Cruelty I can never forget

That must have been a horrible thing to witness, but fortunately for the kitten you did and you didn't shy away from being with her in her final moments, letting her leave this life knowing that at least someone cared. Unfortunately there is still a lot of cruelty in the world, aimed both at animals...

Re: Please meet Teddy

Once more the unplanned meeting, but this time it was with Freyja. Sorting out breakfasts this morning, and taking Teddy his buffet through, two different types of crunchies and a bowl with a bit of wet food in it, i'm trying to get him onto food we normally have in, still have to make my coffee so ...

Re: Is this boy a Siamese??

I too don't see a lot of Siamese there. Siamese normally have dark faces, paws and tails, and lighter coloured bodies, and are very lean cats (we are breeding them too lean in my opnion), to me he looks a nice solid cat. There could be Siamese in his ancestory, it could be a queen escaped and mated ...

Re: Lilly

I am so sorry for you, but it sounds like Lilly had a wonderful, if far too short, time with you. Every time we let a cat out of the door, we take the risk that something will happen to them, but for me the joy they get being outside more than makes up for the heartbreak we go through when we do loo...

Re: A Loss I Can't Cope With

I'm so sorry for you, it always hurts to lose a family member, and while many will say they are 'just cats' we know that isn't entirely true. Nothing I can say can take the pain away, but I can say it is normal, and slowly it will ease. You gave him the best life you could, every time we let them ou...

Re: Please meet Teddy

Freyja, does know Saturn, and does trust him to an extent, but unfortunately Tiggy was the one she really trusted. Saturn I think can be a bit boisterous for her at times, insisting on play fighting when she isn't really interested, she does occasionally have to yell at him. My hope, long term, is t...

Re: Please meet Teddy

Things are going well, Teddy is wanting to follow me out of his room now, and I am letting him under supervision two or three times a day, only for a few minutes at a time, but enough to help spread his scent around and for him to get used to Saturn and Freyja's scents. Last night he literally came ...

This is why cats are an enigma everywhere, even on other planets, trying to study them is just too confusing and frustrating.

Re: Please meet Teddy

I gone through introductions several times and never followed the steps, even though I've vocal on here when people ask about introductions. I think one of the main points of the steps is to keep everything slow. The cats can hear and smell the other cat, even without using scent soakers, they just ...

Re: Please meet Teddy

Interesting about Misha, Freyja is the opposite, she needs to see the hand, go in from the back or even the side at times and she will run, only attack if you really wind her up and keep pushing it. When it comes to keeping a cat separate I never have had a problem, they have to get used to the new ...

Re: Please meet Teddy

All of that makes perfect sense, as does Molly using the bathroom tray while you are in the bath if she had one in a bathroom before. When you are in the bath you are relaxed and quiet, it is probably the one place where no one makes any sudden movements, so she knew it was a safe place and time. Te...

I know a little about where he came from, from what I could when we collected him, and what had been said in messages. They got him 2 years ago when he was 8 weeks old, a bit young for my liking but not uncommon, but it also means he was a Covid Cat. They had 6 cats, all Ragdolls, 3 neutered males t...

Well I have found the wet food Teddy does like, Gourmet Pearl in Gravy. We were told he like Gourmet Pearl and had a box of it in jelly open, and he turned his nose up at it, as well as Thrive, and another one in jelly we had, so we are getting somewhere with him. I can try and get some Felix in Gra...

When we take on a pet, unless it is a tortoise, we know there is a good chance we will out live it and facing the loss and the grief that follows is a small price for all the love they can give us. Teddy is quite happily wandering around, eating, drinking (seeing him 'dig' for water brough back stro...

Re: Please meet Teddy

I don't know whether I'm just an oddity or it is something that has developed with experience, but I would much rather take in an adult cat than a kitten. Kittens are incredibly cute but they are a handful, and really don't stay kittens for long. After I had Saturn and Freyja i swore i would never h...

Please meet Teddy

As you probably all ready know, two weeks ago I had to say good bye to our golden oldie Tiggy, at 19 years old she had had a good innings and while it hurt to let her go, it wasn't really a surprise. Some people need time to recover after saying good bye to one of their pets, I'm not one of them, fo...

Re: Hungry cat

I'll agree with getting him a full vet check and blood works done, but it could just be age. I've had a couple of cats who when they got into their teens lost weight even though they were eating plenty. Vet checks couldn't pick up anything wrong. Both cats lived for a number of years afterwards, and...

Saturn is being his normal self, he just couldn't care less. About the only thing he is going to be upset about is the fact that the chicken supply is going to dry up a bit now we arent' needing to give Tiggs meds in it every day. We were buying 1 to 2 chickens every week to make sure we had a const...

You are right Mollycat, I think due to the scientific background I have, it has given me a tendency to go very factual when writing things like this, I think it is my way of getting it clear in my head, as much as writing it for others to read, a way of recounting for myself what happened and why de...

To those of you who have seen my posts in the past, when Tiggy has given us a one of her scares, it will probably come as no surprise that we have had to finally say goodbye to her. Its been one of those weeks, my computer had been playing up for a bit, and over the weekend it took me several attemp...

Am I reading that right, he is peeing every 10 to 15 minutes all day, every day. If that is the case then something is seriously wrong, You say he was diagnosed with Cystitis a year ago, but has he seen the vet since and if so what was the outcome. I agree that getting to the bottom of the stress pr...

We had one of the plastic ones for a while, and while it was used, it wasn't that popular and in the end was replaced with just a ceramic bowl. We never had any problem with it foaming though. It could be differences in types of water, we are in a very hard water area with a fair bit of iron in it, ...

YOU TRIED YOUR BEST, let no one take that from you, you tried when others didn't, you tried when others turned you away, you took them to a vet, and the vet should know what medication can be given to a kitten, not some troll on the internet. Most of my kitten knowledge has come from watching videos...

Re: Sensing I'm ill

Most definitely cats can pick up on illness. Your body scent does change when you are ill (it doesn't matter how often we wash, body scent goes deeper than the skin), you also mention that your routine has changed a bit, which she will also pick up. With rescues we never know what they went' through...

The Boar can be considered more of an invasive species that a proper reintroduction. I hate to have to say this, but there are Wild Boar in the UK. My parents used to live in Monmouth and help out on the Dean Forest Railway, and the Forest of Dean is one of the areas in the UK that has Wild Boar. i'm so sorry you lost the little calico, i know you fought hard to save her, but it seems to me that there may have been something wrong inside that meant no matter what you tried, it just wasn't meant to be.

I hope the two remaining kittens now go from strength to strength for you.

Re: Getting involved with cat welfare with restrictions?

Do you have a spare room you could use as a home for foster cats. Many charities don't want them having the run of the house and would rather they were just kept in a single room. Keeping them separated would also probably help on the allergies side and with the dog. Fostering those that need time t...
