Re: Breakthrough!!

I don't mind if she's never a lap cat, but its so nice that she's comfortable enough to be nearer to us now :)

Breakthrough!!

Just wanted to share my happy news! We've got quite an anxious, fearful, non-cuddly cat who's 1 1/2. We don't think she was socialised as a kitten. We got a 9 week old kitten 6 weeks ago, and initially she did NOT like him! Lots of puffing up and hissing, avoiding him and hiding away. In the last mo...

Re: Hi I am new =^_^=

Aww that means he's happy with us! He does purr a lot. 7 cats wow! I'd love another but hubby says no  It's so nice to see them develop their relationship, getting used to each other and starting to want to spend time together. Fran_ki I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Hope you don't mind me aski...

Re: Hi I am new =^_^=

Hi! I'm Ruth, we have 2 beautiful black cats, our girl Molly is 1 1/2 and very anxious/nervy. She's got much better though since we got Kevin who is now 15 weeks. He's a typical kitten, a live wire and into absolutely everything!! We use feliway and bachs flower remedies on Molly, feliway makes a hu...

Re: Letting out the kitten!!

Aww, same age as our older cat :) she's currently playing with the dining room rug while Kevin looks on! He's learnt loads from her. I worry a bit because she's quite an odd little thing but he only seems to be picking up her good habits! She doesn't seem to know how to play or be very interested in...

Re: Letting out the kitten!!

He's beautiful!! How old is he? My 2 tuxedos from when I was a child got that reddish tint to their black fur as they aged, or is it just the sunlight!

Re: Letting out the kitten!!

Omg poor Simon! Did make me laugh though! I hadn't even thought about foxes and birds...hmm you definitely have a point! He's a brave boy but still small and a bit silly so I think I'm going to talk to my husband tonight about closing the catflap at night. Our older girl won't like it but I'm sure s...

Re: Letting out the kitten!!

Thanks for all the advice! We were going to get him chipped when we got him neutered but he's already made several bids for freedom! So we got it done at his 2nd vaccination. He's desperate to follow our big girl out of the cat flap which is why I was going to take him out on the harness a few times...

Re: Letting out the kitten!!

Our eldest wakes us up at about 5am every morning wanting to play anyway, I dread to think how often she would wake us if we tried to keep her in!

Letting out the kitten!!

We've had a kitten for 6 weeks now, an addition to our 1 1/2 year old skittish, anxious girl. They're getting on ok now, but we have to shut him in the living room at night as our older cat has free use of our cat flap. Anyway, he's 4 months old on 23rd dec and so can be neutered. I'm after some adv...

Re: Litter tray condundrum

Our older cat won't touch fish or poultry cat food or fresh!! She will only eat red meat or game cat food, tesco beef in gravy is her favourite and it's fair to say Kevin likes it too! I think once we let Kevin have free reign of the house we'll put his tray upstairs as he seems to prefer hers. Moll...

Re: Litter tray condundrum

That's great about the trays, glad to hear lots of cats share. The only reason I have an issue with him eating her food is he's on kitten food to build him up as he's the runt and was underweight when we got him. I worry that adult cat food isn't suitable for him yet, he does tend to do very soft po...

Re: Litter tray condundrum

That's great, I think she may have done a wee in her box overnight as the litter was disturbed this morning so hopefully she doesn't mind sharing; I just worry that he's taking over everything as he's allowed more freedom and as she's a fairly shy cat she doesn't stand her ground at all. He's always...

Re: Litter tray condundrum

I don't mind getting a 3rd tray at all, the problem is if he then starts using the 3rd one as well will she use it if needed? She used to do a wee in the 2nd one if its raining or really cold, but she's just backed away from it this morning and gone out.

Re: Cat sitter vs. Leaving them with my sister?

Can your relatives come and stay at your house while you're away? Kind of a holiday for them too? That would be the best of both worlds for the kittens!

Litter tray condundrum

Hi all. We have quite recently got a kitten who is now 3 months old. We've had him a month and are slowly giving him more freedom in the downstairs of the house. All his stuff is in a huge dog crate which we put him in at night so he doesn't get out the catflap. He's always been extremely well behav...

Re: I am a first time cat owner and need help w/ shy cat!

Our eldest cat Molly was much the same when we first got her. We found that a feliway diffuser has made a massive difference in her anxiety/stress levels, we can really tell the difference if it runs out. She still hates being picked up and I suspect she always will, I aldo doubt she will ever sit o...

Re: cat meowing overnight

Our eldest cat is a very anxious girl. We use a feliway diffuser and can really tell the difference if it's almost run out; I put a new one in a few nights ago and literally within minutes she was settled. It's definitely worth a try. Maybe she's crying because she's lonely; could you leave a radio ...

Re: Totally at a loss!

A remote beach sounds like outdoor kitty heaven to me! I'd most definitely take him with you, especially as the other cats were clearly the problem for him and there's no reason he wouldn't mellow back to something resembling his old self if he were reintroduced properly before you leave.

Re: Very clever kitten!!

The only solution we can think of is putting the catflap on 'in' only and letting Molly out the back door when she wants to go out and she can still come in by herself, then unlocking it when we go to bed and he's safe in his crate. He's too clever for his own good!

Very clever kitten!!

Help!! We have an almost 12 week old kitten who as yet has only had his first lot of vaccinations. We live in a very small house, and mostly keep him in the living area, and in a huge dog crate at night. We also have a 1 1/2 year old cat who has free use of our cat flap. We try to give them time tog...

Re: Homeopathic remedies

Fantastic advice thanks!! We have tried them playing at the same time, but with seperate toys should we use the same toy? Molly (older cat) is asleep on our bed now so when she gets up we'll try it. I'll definitely give the treats idea a go, Kevin (kitten) isn't food orientated at all but he's the r...

Re: Homeopathic remedies

Hi, no they're fed seperately as kitten tries to get into older cats food! She doesn't stop him which I find weird. Maybe we should try feeding together again even if it's just giving her treats while he's eating or something?

I'm starting to think it's us being stressed about it rather than them!

Re: Homeopathic remedies

Thanks for the reply. We live in a very small, open plan house so complete separation isn't really possible or practical. Homeopathic remedies

Does anyone have any experience with using homeopathic remedies for stress/anxiety in cats? More specifically a cat who doesnt seem to be taking too well to a new kitten? I've found some called spirit essences but typically they don't ship to the UK and I can't really find much on websites over here?

Re: Any tips on how to get two cats to live in harmony!

We have a 1 1/2 year old female cat, and have recently introduced a now 11 week old kitten. I'm interested by your comment of them picking up on our stress levels because we do get worried that the big one will hurt the kitten when she swipes at it, and the kitten just wants to pounce on the big gir...
