Re: Is this a normal reaction to sudden shock? Of course something weird happened again, sorry

As I've said many times Spaska's behavior is perfectly normal for a non persian kitten, she is very well behaved. the only problem us humans had with her was her inability to regulate her biting which is now finally slowly sorting out, it probably took her longer than usual due to being abandoned at...

Re: Is this a normal reaction to sudden shock? Of course something weird happened again, sorry

Danny took Suzie back home he is introducing her to the outside world for several hours at a time completely supervised today she was about for 3.5 hours mingling with the other cats and kittens there. Some older guy brought a 4 month old kitten there today saying he couldn't take care of it anymore...

Re: Is this a normal reaction to sudden shock? Of course something weird happened again, sorry

Dumping Spaska out on the street is not an option, not even remotely. But it's clear she harasses Mila more so than the other cats and the harassment doesn't stop. Sure Spaska is just playing but it's more than Mila can and should handle when her heart starts racing so much and this stuff happens. A...

Re: Is this a normal reaction to sudden shock? Of course something weird happened again, sorry

Just talked to one of our vets over the phone, the mom vet who is/was a professor at vet school here According to her it is an acute collapse but given Mila's history she believes it has more to do with loss of air as she runs and gets excited, plus Spaska jumping on her neck than her heart, however...

Re: Is this a normal reaction to sudden shock? Of course something weird happened again, sorry

Thank you so much Ruth, sorry im being so annoying with this everyone. Mila's heart was last checked on August 21st, so a month before this first happened, detailed bloodwork was done and she was doing great. The vet warned us that the heatstroke could leave lasting damage on her heart and lungs and...

Re: Is this a normal reaction to sudden shock? Of course something weird happened again, sorry

I've been reading all night, even watched a youtube video. It seems we're dealing with what is known as acute collapse in cats. It can get triggered by irregular heart rate, arrhythmia or tachycardia I'm going to butcher the spelling on each and everyone of those but I don't care. So basically as lo...

Re: Is this a normal reaction to sudden shock? Of course something weird happened again, sorry

It happened again :( I can't catch a break just when I think all is well for several weeks something happens to Mila, I had just started work on a new project, every time I start work it happens. So as per usual Spaska was harassing Mila, she woke her up and chased her around, then Mila fell over an...

Re: Hi everyone, first time cat owner here

That definitely makes me feel better :) I think you told me the wardrobe story once before :) THANK YOU! Fortunately other than headphone wires or controller wires that move she ignores all other wires that are just lying around, but the way I taught her to do so was to simply say no, distract her w...

Re: Hi everyone, first time cat owner here

As soon as a cat enters the litter tray she has to go investigate, usually watches from afar unless the cat starts digging. Right now she was harassing Mila as per usual, nothing bad I hope/think and in the middle of harassing Mila she somehow heard Casper enter the bathroom litter tray, that's like...

Re: Hi everyone, first time cat owner here

Sounds like something I've already started but it needs more work I guess. I started calling her over and giving her a treat whenever she'd harass the cats in the litterbox, so she'd storm over to me, gulp the treat down and run back. Then I started giving her little pieces to keep her occupied, but...

Re: Hi everyone, first time cat owner here

That is an awesome story :) not sure about the clicker training as it would distract the other cats, but she responds when called over, it's just she goes all crazy running back and forth, even if you give her a treat she gulps it down and storms back to the litterbox cat. I've been able to hold her...

Re: Hi everyone, first time cat owner here

She is incredibly smart, that or I'm used to less than smart persians :) She opens boxes and what not, like this morning she found a box of masks and carefully opened it, she opened it from the bottom but there were flaps there and she worked through them and opened one. She often uses her front paw...

Re: Hi everyone, first time cat owner here

Finally took a pic of Spaska pestering a cat in the litterbox paska is 4 months old, soon to be 5 on the 1st and this behavior just won't go away :( Snapped a photo but the moment I took the pic she turned her head because another cat was in another litterbox so she couldn't decide which cat to pest...

Re: Hi everyone, first time cat owner here

I've always felt this type tail movement is like cursing or muttering too :D yeah this was a pretty normal interaction for them, we haven't had any of those major incidents where Spaska would start scratching Mila's head or anything in a long time, but cornering her in the carriers does make Mila ve...

Re: Hi everyone, first time cat owner here

I think it all really depends on the kitten, back in the day they'd just attribute biting and stuff to a "bad kitten" but now we understand why it's happening and we understand kittens better and how they interact with each other and what benefits staying longer with their family has. Not ...

Re: Hi everyone, first time cat owner here

Ragdolls are amazing, I don't think I've seen many on sale here but Persians are very common I've been wanting a raddoll for years but the health issues are what puts me off from the breed, supposedly ragamuffins are the healthy variant but I've never ever seen those here. I don't trust Macedonian b...

Re: Hi everyone, first time cat owner here

Well Spaska is definitely a dark tortie and Mila is a deluted one and she was extremely hyper as a kitten/young cat but nowhere near Spaska levels of hyperactivity, she is still a persian. It's not just the length of the hair but the particular breed, I had a semi-long haired cat as a kid, Leo, he w...

Hello everyone. I'm a first time cat owner and I must admit they're a handful tho they are wonderful creatures.....wait what? Sorry I didn't see this topic on time I have my share of experience with kittens and soft stools, even diarrhea. Re: Vet wouldn’t spay till 6 months

I guess the 6 month spaying thing is more of a European thing in general then. My vet didn't say that they'd be more prone to bladder problems if they get spayed early, just that IF bladder issues pop up like they did with Mila, it would be harder on the cat to pass stones if needed due to her canal...

Re: Vet wouldn’t spay till 6 months

I logged in earlier to talk about this when i saw your topic :) We're at a point where I disagree with my vets on this issue again, this time about Spaska. My vets insist to spay a cat after her first heat cycle and not before, they firmly believe that spaying kittens before sexual maturity is 1st w...

If she only pawed once it might be nothing, but you're right now is not the time to take her to vets and stuff if you're moving. Why not try that dental anti plaque thing? It seems to have done wonders for Mila, for now. I also stand by the Soda Bicarbonate + Water concoction, it helped Mila tremend...

Hey Molly, hope I can be of some use for once, you're always so helpful to me. Maybe if I share my experience with Mila's stomatitis it's going help shed some light on some things regarding your situation too. Thank! I knew asking here would result in helpful info :) I think this was it, moreso I think Mila has had FARS since the heatstroke. Is this a normal reaction to sudden shock? Of course something weird happened again, sorry

We've had a few weeks of relative peace with everyone, sure Spaska still harasses Mila but nowhere near as bad as it was, they're more or less back to being alright, they even eat together from the same bowl without issues again. Mila has less tolerance than the other cats for Spaska's shenanigans b...

Re: Should we re-home Spaska, she keeps harassing Mila and it's very sad

Thanks Ruth Spaska is officially 3 months old today! I'm relieved now that I know there's a way to adopt Spaska out to good owners abroad and I hope if it does come to that we can work something out on this forum because that agency adopts out specifically to the UK or Germany. So I won't have to de...

Yeah that's exactly what I'm doing with her, when she bothers Mila or when she goes too far with biting. But by the time I pick her up she has already forgotten what she was doing and her attention is elsewhere :) If Mila wasn't getting so stressed and if she wasn't Spaska's primary target for haras...

These are the conditions I'm asking for in potential adopters, is it too much? - If you live in a building please have window screens and a screen door on your balcony. Cats are prone to falling out of windows and the balcony and if you're on a higher floor it won't end well. Every person I've ever ...

Re: Should we re-home Spaska, she keeps harassing Mila and it's very sad

Only time I've seen Mila pin anyone down was once when Casper peed in their food when he was 2 months or so and when Medo did something dumb, that's. With Spaska she slaps her, swipes at her and hisses at her, sometimes grabs her with both arms but that lasts a mere second and that's it. My persians...
