Re: Help getting kittens through the night

I would agree that if you have a different room that they could be in that would be better, they need to learn that you won't be there for them all the time and as you have two they will have each others company and someone to play with. If you get concerned about leaving them to unattended then som...

Re: Does fur colour change?

While I have never actually seen it except in photos I have heard that some kittens can get a 'fever coat'. It normally happens in kittens that are born to an unwell mother, so is probably more common among the rescues than the good breeders. From what I understand it occurs at birth and then after ...

Wow! that is an impressive feat for him. Unfortunately cats will be cats and it is one reason that I don't actively invite birds into my garden. I've noticed how people always go on about cats killing birds, but never seem to mind if they get a mouse or two, and are positively impressed when they ki...

Re: Long Haired Cats in Hot Weather

We're rather having 'fun' at the moment. As mentioned previously in other threads, my garden has Asbestos contamination. Liability has been sorted out, and at the end of last year we were told to expect work to start in late February, then in Feb it was late April etc. Thursday I got a knock at the ...

Re: If your cat was a human in a past life time...

As I have frequently said my Saturn is a typical 'lad'. If he was human he would have a dozen ASBOs and see them as a status symbol. He isn't vicious, but does like to tease just to get a reaction it seems. He'd be yelling at little old ladies, haring up and down the street on one of those mini moto...

I've never had one with kidney failure but I have lost them to a range of other conditions and in every case it was obvious that the end had come. The light just went from them and they lost interest in life in general. If he is just sat outside enjoying the sunshine then it could be he is just enjo...

Re: Second cat advice!!

Some cats really seem to appreciate the company rather than being alone all day, others don't seem to care. I've always opted to have two, or at present 3, cats so they would have company as the house would normally be empty while both myself and my OH were at work. I know of very few cases when the...

Re: Does medication really work for cat agression?

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed it does all work out and I think you have accepted the best compromise, short term medication to give them a chance to settle together, and then to find him a new home yourself in the worst case scenario. I was lucky, one of my relatives worked with the charity I h...

Re: Sick cat

Poor little girl, I would certainly advise bringing her appointment forward if you can or at the very least phone the vets and have a chat about her. It could be internal injuries, but it could also just be a case of shock and pain, particularly if the Metacam isn't staying down. It could also be th...

Re: Does medication really work for cat agression?

I will admit that the furthest I would go with medicating for that type of behavioural problem is a Feliway diffuser, I have nothing against medication for physical issues, but I don't think it is the correct answer as a way of forcing two incompatible cats to co habit, so please either disregard my...

Your story about Emily reminds me about what happened with out Mitzy. I was in my teens at the time, and my sister was a couple of years older. We had a couple of male cats at the time (both neutered) and an early form of cat flap, it was a hole cut in the back door with a wooden flap that could be ...

The best cat food for her is the one she will eat. Like many others i have tried various types of cat food for my three and it always seems to come down to Felix As Good as it Looks and Gourmet Gold or Gourmet Pearl. While they may not be viewed as artisan cat foods they aren't bad, they have a good...

Re: Cat prefers cuddle to food

Most, of mine definitely enjoy both, but if I tried to cuddle any of them while my OH put the food bowls down i would end up in A&E, if it was something like a meal of roast chicken doubly so.

There is a time and place for everything and cuddles at feeding time is not the right time.

Re: RAGDOLL CAT NEGLECT. NEED HELP.

I was thinking about this last night and remembered a cat a rescue near here had in that had been left to starve after its 'owners' had moved. That cat didn't make it, lack of food meant that its organs started to shut down and were beyond recovery even after it was taken into care. So please, altho...

Re: Vet Costs - Teething Problems

That sounds quite reasonable to me, the last time one of mine need it doing was over 5 years ago and then it was about £250 - 300. The anaesthetic, the scaling, any extractions and post op pain meds and antibiotics are all essentials Normally once the cat is under the vet can have a good look in the...

Re: RAGDOLL CAT NEGLECT. NEED HELP.

That is cruel to any cat, but particularly to a Ragdoll, they crave company and hate being alone. Dealing with the problem however is more difficult. Does your lodger seem to look after and pay a lot of attention to the cat when they are there, are they always talking about her or does she seem an i...

I have to agree that neutering him is probably the quickest way to improve matters and will make him a happier and healthier cat for the rest of his life. I quite understand that you want to be there to look after him after the operation so just a reminder that neutering a male cat is a far simpler ...

Re: Cat introduction I can't move forward please help!

I have to agree with Lilith, time and scent swapping is probably the best answer. I would also add that sometimes the best thing is to let them sort it out themselves, and just be ready to wade in if it looks like one is really going to get hurt. Give the lad a good run around with the toys to tire ...

Re: Advice - Cattery lost my boy

I'm afraid I can't offer any legal advice, but I think the cattery would be heartless to be asking for payment having let one of your cats escape. You might want to contact the council, all catteries in the UK (I am assuming you are in the UK) have to be licenced to ensure the health and safety of t...

Also on morning when he has been quiet make sure you give him extra fuss when you do get up. He's trying to train you while you are tr...

Re: Please help, redirected aggression.

The first thing I have to ask is, is he neutered? If he isn't then this would go a long way to helping the problem and give him a longer, healthier and happier life. Assuming he is neutered I would recommend getting one of the Purrs, Frenzy, or Da Bird toys with a long wand and then one of the heavi...

Re: Puking cat

I would suggest going onto just one type of wet food for a few weeks to see if it makes a difference. I would also suggest seeing your own vet and just getting things double checked. If she was used as a kitten factory it could be that she is used to only just having enough food to get by and is use...

I hope the vet can find out what is wrong and it can be treated. Several of mine have had reactions to vaccinations but are only a bit under the weather for a day or so, nothing like your little girl is going through.

Unfortunately as Lilith says, you have two options, hold out, or let them in. If you decide you have to hold out and hope accepts it, then you have to ignore it, don't go out and comfort him, don't go out and tell him off, if you have to go out, to go to the bathroom say, then you have to ignore him...
