Re: I Have the Best Cat In The World Because ...

Agreed, but perhaps it's not a coincidence that our most traumatised and interesting are also the ones we are most grateful for and most in awe of. After all, they are our greatest teachers, and give us our proudest achievements while at the same time keeping us humble. Molly now sometimes gets up f...

I Have the Best Cat In The World Because ...

Just a bit of fun - everyone has the World's Best Cat, but why? (Just one reason per cat if you can, to make it really tough!)

Mine is the best cat in the world because she squeaks at me when I'm stressed to make me stop and relax with her.

Why is your cat the best cat in the world?

Re: Inflammatory Bowel disease

As much as we all wish there was a silver bullet to cure IBD or any other gut dysfunction, there isn't. Sadly IDB or lymphoma in cats can be managed with more or less success and with lots of ups and downs, but in the end we don't win, and giving false hope of a miracle cure just causes more pain an...

Re: Hyperthyroid cat on Felimazole gel not eating

The reason I ask is because my girl had some kind of crash and the tests were how we discovered her hyperthyroidism, she was if anything overweight and not especially desperately hungry, but the crash was vile stinky diarrhoea, often yellow or orange in colour, and then a frightening weight loss. It...

Have you considered the Hills y/d diet instead Felimazole?

Whereabouts are you in the EU with no radioiodine centres?

Oh and by any chance was her bilirubin high in the full blood panel?

The trouble with these miracle cures is they give false hope and prey on the most vulnerable.

Ok so anything is possible from a congenital issue upward. I'm not certain on this but would he have got this far if it was lymphoma? IBD is manageable up to a point, but only up to a point sadly. From what my vet told me at the time I got the impression the two diseases are almost identical in both...

Is that correct 2009? You've been struggling with this all these years? Also can I just clarify, when you say you want him to be comfortable, is that comfortable with the hope/aim to make his bowel better, or comfortable for the time he has left in palliative care? I lost my Boo 3 years ago to which...

This all sounds really good Ruth. Molly and Boo used to play chase - in my very small flat - thump-a-thump-a-thump Molly chasing Boo into the bedroom, then a pause, then thump-a-thump-a-thump Boo chasing Molly back into the living room. Molly also used to be the doorway sitter but not maliciously, a...

Sure. He has dry grass caught up in his claws probably from burying his poop, and his claws are neatly tucked away inside his toes where they go when a cat retracts them.

Re: Advice for FLUTD/Idiopathic Cystitis Kitties

Sounds like you've been lucky there and you obviously know what you're doing, but please be careful increasing water intake too much as urine should be strong and acidic enough to kill infection causing bacteria. Remember the cat is descended from a desert animal that got all its water needs from it...

Re: LOW BLOOD PRESSURE & HIGH HEART RATE & hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Not sure it's possible to do BP at home, as Booktigger says getting a cuff that small would be one obstacle, and perhaps your cat is very docile and tolerant but I wouldn't fancy my chances of getting a cat to tolerate it. Low blood pressure can be a consequence of the heart not working so efficient...

I think it's a matter to discuss with your vet - alternative meds, or what happens if meds are stopped. It's an important decision and you should be armed with all the facts as well as good support whatever you decide. There will always be difficult emotions in deciding to continue or stop any impor...

- any ideas why if cat flu is viral the antibiotics seem to have helped? My retired stud boy had a bit of a cough, was a bit sneezy in phases, had runny eyes, and sometimes blew snot bubbles. I second that, they are brilliant and will also allow you to leave wet food down for them if you want to as the lid shuts tight and keeps it fresh longer. I got mine for 2 cats with different diet needs and one with food anxiety, now down to 1 cat but I still would never be without the chip feeder.

She didn't. She held on for 20 hours until the surgery closed for the night. Knowing if she went the sample would be wasted, I gave her back her trays. Did she go straight in to relieve herself? Not a bit of it. Four hours later she still hasn't been. I had to instruct the vet to send off the bloods...

They certainly are! I don't trim claws but well done for getting yours to accept it. Those look very similar to a short haired cat's mats. Do you brush him? If you brush or stroke him firmly, do those areas give up a lot of loose hair and a little dandruff? That is also a classic area where older, fatter or stiff cats struggle to groom properly. Even if you can't feel a bump, if the...

Re: Can Stage 2 Kidney Disease Be Managed And Prescription Question

Treating the thyroid doesn't make kidney issues worse, exactly, it's a little more complicated than that. Hyperthyroidism increases blood pressure. This does what vets refer to as "masking" kidney disease, makes it look better than it really is. But high blood pressure can damage the heart...

Ah I see, well the arrival of the baby might make some difference. But my current Molly prefers to lie next to me more than to be fussed and cuddle...
