Re: Pippin's experiences with hyperthyroidism
Yes, I was told that some underlying issues might have come up once the thyroid had settled down after the treatment. Generally it's kidneys who show some failure... I hope that it is just homesickness (does this word exist in English?) for Pippin and not something else!!! Fingers crossed here, of c...

Re: Possible tumour
Antonia - that is a very reassuring account of Paulina's treatment - I do hope Boris shows some improvement over the next day or so. How old is Paulina and did she respond immediately to the treatment? They didn't tell me they'd tested the fluid - I'll ask them about that when I take him back for h...

Re: Possible tumour
Please, do not rush things! My cat Pallina was found with liquids in her chest and the ultrasound scan found a small mass in her thorax. The first thought was that she had a lymphoma, my world was going to collapse on me! We drained her and then re-checked her a few weeks later. The fluid was still ...

I used disposable gloves, and only for a limited time, because I got tired of those things on and off my hands several times a day :D As soon as the weather gets friendlier I wiil get rid of the content of the spare bin at the backyard. I think that radioactivity of the used litter must be null now....

Re: Possible oral squamous cell carcinoma
I, too, have regrets and remorses for what I did and didn't do when my Lola was alive. When she was diagnosed, the cancer was already a quite large mass. What makes me feel angry is that she had a CT scan about three months before the diagnosis. The CT scan was requested for a different disease, but...

Re: Possible oral squamous cell carcinoma
Hi Nekomeister, I am sorry you have to found this forum in such a terrible moment and for such a terrible event. My cat Lola was diagnosed with SCC in September 2016. She was then treated with radiation therapy and chemo and she responded well for a relatively long period of time, then the mass grew...

Re: Pippin's experiences with hyperthyroidism
They were 80 grams cans. Pallina would usually eat 2 cans a day, but sometimes even just one. She was an apathetic hyper-T cat. This means that even though she was clearly hyper-T (fT4 and T4 way over range), her symptoms were the opposite of a classic hyper-T cat, no increased appetite, no hyperact...

Re: Pippin's experiences with hyperthyroidism
Sounds like Pippin has a great attitude towards what is new and other people, that is good indeed! :D I know it for sure that my cat does not eat much (or at all) when she's away from home. When my cat Pallina stayed at the clinic in Belgium, I provided them 24 cans of food. She stayed there from Mo...

Hopefully the weather conditions will be better than they forecast. Over here the weathermen frightened us with stories of severe snow storms, like never seen in a decade, with winds up to 100 km/h and a wild drop of the temperature as from yesterday. Well, it turned out that we had just 1 inch of s...

Re: Tails of the radioactive cat (or Mouse.) Radio-iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism
Hi Leah and welcome. The info you have are probably wrong. The success rate in I-131 treatment is over 95%, maybe even 98%. The rest of the cases will have HYPO-t cats or cats that need a second treatment. My cat was treated successfully in last August, there's a thread on her as well, https://www.c...

Re: Pippin's experiences with hyperthyroidism
@fjm, The effects from the radio-iodine treatment will not be visible right away, it could take weeks or months to be effective. In several cases the treated cats get HYPO thyroid for a period of time, then they tend to get better. My cat Pallina was treated with radio-iodine in last August, but the...

Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice
I have received the report for the last thyroid test for Pallina done on Feb 7. This was the test 180 days past the I-131 therapy, so it was the last one required by the clinic in Belgium. T4 = 1.80 ug/dl [0.9-3.45 non hyperT / 3.45-5.0 slightly hyperT / >5 severe hyperT] fT4 = 11.50 pmol/l [5.4-25....

Re: Pippin's experiences with hyperthyroidism
@fjm, it seems your cat Pippin might be one of the uncommon cases of apathetic hyperthyroidism. The thyroid produces more hormones than it should, but no symptoms show. My cat Pallina wasn't eating more, was placid and quiet, her coat was fine, she was only losing weight due to the fact that she was...

My vet adviced me on Stronghold PLUS kitten (<2.5 kg).
Make sure it is PLUS. It kills nearly everything, inside and outside the cat.

Ask the vet if you can give Robbie something to wake up his appetite. There are meds that can stimulate the appetite in cat not much interested in food.
A cat with a sick liver MUST eat or he won't ever come out from this situation.
It is called Fat Liver Disease.

Re: Plays in dirty litter box!!!
Sometimes cats just do not like the "home smell" they have on their coat because it's too human and not enough wild. Somewhere I had read that they hate to smell like a sofa or like the house where they live, or have any kind of perfumed and civilized smell on them. This is the reason why ...

Re: Anyone Familiar with Bloods?
For liver issues there are very good supplements that might help a lot to solve the problems. My cat Pallina had very high liver levels, even higher than Robbie's ones. I've been giving her these supplements regularly for the past 5-6 weeks now, and the last test ten days ago showed a clear improvem...

Hi and welcome. You say that you got Lola when she was 4 weeks old from a terrible house. Do you know, or can you explain what happened in that house. Did they abuse her? Was she held in dark and small spaces? Was she fed regularly? What other animals were in the same environment? It sounds like she...
