Re: Obsessive carpet pulling following loss of litter mate
With unwanted behaviours addressing the source is much more effective than addressing the behaviour itself. It does sound like his bereavenpment is the start of it, but how does he interact with the rest of the household? Adjustments will happen as they always do as the dynamic changes with the loss...

Re: Young cat now blind
Firstly, Well done not giving up on her. My Mitz was blind when we got him, although the recue centre hadn’t realised (or conveniently forgot to tell me), but he was 8 years old by then. His condition sounds very much like your girl. He did yowl from time to time at night when we first got him, usua...

Re: How can I get my sweet boy back?
This sounds really distressing for all of you, including poor Robin. It sounds like the trust bond has been badly damaged between you, and suggest you have a word with your vet to recommend a good behaviourist who can see the dynamic between you and find a way to help him calm down again, particular...

Re: Is my cat stressed
Yes, your cat Is stressed. Imagine how you would feel if someone brought a grizzly bear into your home, even a fairly friendly one. This is about how your cat feels about the dog appearing in his safe space, even if the dog seems harmless. The cat won’t see it that way. He’s big, loud, and let’s fac...

Re: Toby’s (ahem) lipstick
Just an update, this stopped happening after about 4 days, so I suspect it was a stress/comforting issue (gross as that sounds) in the first few days after rehoming him. His litter tray habits showed no problem and he's in full and fine fettle now.

Courting tackle . Ok, I’ll stop worrying. It was a bit of a surprise though. Elise hasn’t got near enough to see this little display, I think she’s just objecting to him in principle. I feel like a cross between an emotional therapist and a boxing referee!

Toby’s (ahem) lipstick
Sorry about the ewwww factor in this, but my new little puss, now named Toby, has a little personal issue that I’ve not seen before. He’s about 11 Months old, neutered around weeks ago. Apparently he pulled the stitches out and had to have them redone, and it’s all healed up fine. Anyway, I brought ...

Re: conjunctivitis after vaccination?
The pic makes him look smaller than he really is, but he’s very petite. Elsie’s reaction is such a shame, he’s such a friendly little cat, she has no need to be scared of him, but he’s terrified of her now.

Re: conjunctivitis after vaccination?
Thanks Lilith. It would even out the odds if he did put on a growth spurt! She's just being a terrible wuss, and now she's frightened him as well - he's such a friendly laid back cat, he's not used to cats being mean to him. This will take a while to sort out....

Here he is. He looks like a kitten, but he must be not far off fully grown. And sooooo sweet natured. Elsie is a silly mare sometimes.

Re: conjunctivitis after vaccination?
I can't remember exactly when they got him, may have been less than that. They may have decided to neuter first, then wait till he'd recovered from that before vaccinating him. He pulled his stitches out and had to go back in to have that sorted, so that may also have held things up. He's a typical ...

Sorry, he’s 11 months old, recently neutered and vaccinated. Handed in to rescue about 3months ago by owner who for some reason changed her mind about wanting to own two young un-neutered unvaccinated male cats. Rescue have sorted all that, he’s tested fiv neg, he’s very sweet natured. Just has a ve...

conjunctivitis after vaccination?
I've just brought home a little rescue puss, who has conjunctivitis. The rescue said this appeared after his first vaccination a few weeks ago, and treatment with eye drops cured it within 3 or 4 days. He went for his second jab on Thursday, and it has come back, so he's back on the drops. I picked ...

Re: Atopica - anyone have any experience with it?
Crikey, you have been through it with him. Elsie being a bit scratchy pales into insignificance by comparison. House dust mite allergies really are hard to address, as basically they're everywhere. My family have house dust mite allergies, and basically all we can do is clean up as best we can but t...

Re: Atopica - anyone have any experience with it?
Hi Ria, sorry, to hear Harry's been uncomfortable. I don’t have experience of this treatment but am interested to know what the symptoms are? Elsie is constantly scratching her ears, which initially was ear mites which we have under control, and I check her ears frequently, but I’m wondering if this...

Re: I'm losing beloved Gandhi
I'm sorry to hear you've had such a rough time with the passing of so many of your furry friends in such a short space of time, it can leave you shell shocked and over sensitive to any new worries. I fully empathise with that, having been through similar. But my creaky old girl Lily, a tiny scrap of...

Re: scratching at bedroom door-how to stop??
Judging from how many have viewed this thread (over 5,000 so far!), this is obviously a fairly common problem, and can be a tough one to solve! I've been really lucky with most of mine, although before I married I had a couple who insisted on sleeping on my bed every night, and as I was on my own it...

Sorry to hear about your loss. How awful for you. I totally empathise with how you feel, I just lost one of mine too young to an awful medical condition, and have said goodbye to several oldies in recent years, so you do get over-sensitive to absolutely everything, but being vigilant is still a good...

Re: How Often Do You Wash Litter Trays?
I find catsan stinks, I wouldn't use it. I use Worlds Best, which really reduces the pong. (Friends who previously used catsan changed to this and it made a huge difference to the smell of their house!) With Worlds Best, assuming the cats use it every day, I have two trays for two cats, and scoop tw...

Re: PLEASE help / HotSpot(Cat)?
Please make sure the products you have bought are designed to be used on cats. Some products for humans, or other animals, can be toxic to cats. My thoughts are ringworm, or an animal bite, which may form an abscess. Both would need veterinary treatment. To be honest, if at all possible, it would be...

Re: cat suddenly starts biting stuff and growling (at other cat?)
I agree, given absence of changes in their environment it's most likely a health issue. As fjm says, cats are very good at hiding ill health and pain, and changes in their behaviour are often the first indicators. Let us know how you get on.

Re: cat suddenly starts biting stuff and growling (at other cat?)
For sudden changes in behaviour like this I would recommend a vet visit. This can be an indicator of pain or ill health, and he's just taking it out on your other cat. (Imagine how grumpy we can get when we've got a head ache). Otherwise, are there any changes in your household that might be troubli...

Re: New Cat Stalking the other Cats
Hi Jim, thanks for taking this lad in hand. As you say, things may settle down a bit once his hormones balance out. However, it's quite possible that he's just one of those cats who hates other cats, and is trying to create his own territory. Having been a stray, he will be used to a MUCH larger ter...

Re: Air Freshener advice
I agree, using a good quality litter really helps. Despite what the adverts say, Catsan really stinks. I also briefly used a pink one (can't remember the name, but similar to catsan) used by the rescue centre I brought Elsie home from to help her settle in, and that was absolutely toxic!!! (and turn...

Re: Both cats to vet - one has non recognition aggression
You have my sympathy, medicating cats is never easy. Do your best to stay calm and normal through all this, it will help. Is it the cat that's being medicated the one who's playing up? If so, it may be redirected stress. Give her lots of attention and reassurance, (treats help too!) and that will he...

Re: Both cats to vet - one has non recognition aggression
Hi, I agree with Lilith. You're basically doing the right things, but just try to act like everything is normal, give both cats lots of reassurance, keep to their old routines, and eventually they'll calm down again. They're silly blighters sometimes!
