Re: scratching the sofa
Thank you - I'm going to try the sticky tape and I'll let you know if it works.

Re: Oops I did it again! Sorry guys, 'tis the silly season...
Why do you think I use this name? It's always easier to just give in to a cat as they will, inevitably, win in the end. They've never forgotten that they were worshipped as gods in ancient Egypt. Did you know that if the cat died, every human member of its family had to shave their eyebrows as a sig...

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat
Yes, a heartwarming post and also heartwrenching. It's awful to sea animals suffer, because you can't explain to them what's happening, and that the nasty meds are to make them better... A hospital consultant told me he actually wanted to be a vet, but decided he couldn't bear to see animals suffer....

Re: scratching the sofa
Thanks to all of you. Putting the scratching post in front of the sofa was the first thing I tried, but as I said, Rufus Tuftypaws just isn't interested. I'll try the double-sided sticky tape, that sounds like a good idea. Should I cover the whole area or just apply a few strips?

Poor distressed kitty, poor distressed you! I wouldn't try bathing her, but I'd gently wipe her backside with a soft damp cloth, just give the area a swipe whenever you can but don't hold her down if that is likely to upset her. Good luck.

scratching the sofa
My 5-year old Rufus came to live with me last September, after the old lady he lived with died. He's settled in really well, is a pretty laid-back cat, no problems at all apart from the fact he scratches the arms of the sofa. He's had a proper scratch post from the day he moved in, and I've sprinkle...

Re: Neighbours old cat limping
Iams do a range of age-appropriate dry foods in various flavours. I fed my Blake on the senior variety and he lived to be 18. He got wet food as well, and tinned tuna, which he loved. He was always fit and healthy until his last year when he developed kidney problems, and I now wonder if that was ca...

Re: small scabs
The Comfortis for cats goes by weight - the tablet is 11 mm across and quite thick and Rufus did NOT like having is shoved down his throat by the vet. It worked a treat, though. The tablets are 'chewable', but we all know what cats are like when it comes to taking meds...

Re: Losing another cat so soon
Dear CatLady Just a PS: a cat who lives a few doors down from us was friendly with my Blake, and used to come in through the cat flap and sleep near him. In Blake's last week Frankie kept miaowing at the front door (I'd locked the cat flap by then) but I didn't let him in as Blake wasn't as fond of ...

Re: Losing another cat so soon
First of all let me say how much I admire you for fostering another elderly cat so soon after losing a beloved cat. I considered doing the same after my adored Blake died in 2014 but decided I couldn't cope with another bereavement (I live alone and my only son is 200 miles away). Your husband obvio...

Re: small scabs
Thank you for that. I did take my Rufus to the vet the Monday after he suddenly started scratching frantically over the weekend, and I was right: he is allergic to flea bites. I was told, and have since heard from other people, that Frontline is no longer very effective - a pity, since I paid £27 fo...

small scabs
I adopted a gorgeous long-haired ginger last September. I groom him with a slicker brush but also comb him with a flea comb. I've not seen any evidence of fleas on him - I treated him with Frontline recently- but in the pst months I've started to find tiny scabs round his neck and towards his tail, ...
