Re: Unhomable cat - out of ideas :(

I have a cat who is petrified of other cats, to the extent she will not go out into my enclosed patio during daylight hours but she will go out when it's dark, and no other cats are around, and this might also be true for your problem girl how does she see other cats? have you tried confining her to...

Re: house trained but want to use litter tray

can you dig an outdoor pit for them, as near the house exit point as possible? I had a cat who hated using a tray, and I lifted a patio slab for him, dug it out and filled it with compost - I dug it over every week and removed any obvious poo bundles an alternative to compost is builder's sand, whic...

Re: Cat will starve but will not eat cat food

Sorry but this is no closer to providing a balanced diet and should definitely NOT be touted as a solution to the problem of a cat refusing to eat a balanced diet. Your kitten might be eating and ok for a while but this is not a long term healthy diet. I know this is the received wisdom, but I do h...

Re: clumping litter works too well

I would certainly recommend a metal litter scoop for granite lumps - much much sturdier than plastic I've given up on clumping litter for the last two years, as age is catching up with my back - I now buy a very fine silica litter, which weighs nothing and is excellent at masking smells - I had thre...

you have posted on a UK forum, so I'm afraid it's very unlikely you'll get any positive response

he's a very distinctive looking cat though, and I do hope someone will recognize and claim him - though if they don't a new home must be a possibility, as gingers are always popular

the obvious fur though suggests to me he's vomiting because of it, and I don't think I'd be too worried if it was my cat, as long as this was the only symptom

I used an animal courier to take a cat 150 miles for specialist treatment - a big advantage was that the van had an inner caged area much bigger than a carrier with room for a bed and litter tray I don't know your financial situation beyond what you have said, but is taking out a new credit card a f...

I would suggest you weigh him regularly - once a fortnight as he's so young - that will show you if he is gaining weight and as long as he is you can stop fretting over how much, or how little, he eats

just a thought, from someone who has been caring for an outdoor cat for some years now - the arrangement is I provide food and shelter in my shed, and he agrees not to hiss at me as long as I don't get too close - although unneutered he doesn't seem to stray beyond my garden do you have a garden whi...

I too think heat is the way forward - I had a cat who slept right up next to me every night for 14 years

until I had a multi-fuel stove put in, and put her bed next to it - she never so much as visited me in bed again

Re: Would my cat benefit from a new kitten friend?

I'm with Ruth - introducing another cat is always a risky business, but in my now fairly long experience, I think a male of roughly her age, who has always lived indoors, and who was neutered at the usual 4-6 months, is most likely to be accepted by her.

Now that his male hormones are no longer driving him, he clearly sees your garden as home, and you as his provider - not too many steps now between that and his becoming your pet

just move all your expectations forward a couple of weeks, and start to worry if none of them are being met by then

Re: wont go in shelter after another cats visit

I'd go down this route too - I have a cat flap in the shed for my outdoor cat, and have put two Mr Snugs inside in case one gets occupied by another cat - I like the idea of being able to offer a refuge for a needy cat in winter it also helps to have two kennels because however dry you try to keep i...

I'm older than you, and my current cat came to me aged 11 - if I outlive her I will look for another perhaps even older cat, as I know I can offer an ideal home for an oldie wanting a quiet life - in particular I shall look for a cat who has been in rescue for far too long because most people want a...

I suspect it comes down to breeding too - I wonder how many of the dogs registered are pure bred - most probably unregistered mongrels might well be closer to the unregistered moggie number - and as spaying and neutering must be a major reason for registering cats, the fact that rescues do this is a...

I'm no expert on ear mites, or indeed any other cat's ear problems, but I did once have a rescue cat with bad mites, and the muck looked to be much deeper in the ear canal than in your pictures, and he scratched his ears constantly if your boy doesn't seem bothered, and there is no evidence of any i...
