Re: The end is nigh.....she has pancreatitus

Thanks. Not sure what to do - just read Synulox can have side effects and she was pooing blood earlier. Just been researching pancreatitis and Im not sure she is strong enough to go on a drip - I do not want her to be without me when she dies. Will see how she is overnight but am not giving her that...

The end is nigh.....she has pancreatitus

Hi all, My darling 18 and a half year old cat has had IBS for two years and now she has pancreatitus. She is already inflammed due to the IBS - had her bloods done yesterday and all is fine but now got this as had to wait longer for the result. I do not know what to do and am at my wits end. Vet gav...

Re: Night time terrors

Hi all, Thanks for the kind words Issi! :) Totally forgot about this thread even after getting a reminder for it the other day. "Draped across the keyboard" just made me chuckle. Julie, I have experience of the afterlife - with witnesses so it wasn't me going mad. I know there is something...

Re: Night time terrors

Hi Issi, My two friends are loners like me - we all find it difficult to bond with people and make true friends. We are also all single - so, very much alone. I lost cats when I was younger but because I had boyfriends it never hit me as hard. Keep us posted wont you - it really does help to share o...

Re: Night time terrors

Issie - isnt it awful. My two friends were like this when the loves of their lives (cat adn dog) passed over. It would hit them like a ton of bricks. What helped them also, was not just getting another animal, but also making more human connections. I don't mean nights out with friends - I mean real...

Re: Very early signs of kidney failure

Hi Otokage, She hasn't had the blood test yet. I took her off the Peridale (poo thickener) as she seemed to go downhill slightly. This is embarrassing but I got a flea comb yesterday and yup - she has fleas - not many - BUT lots of flea droppings!!!!! That might be why she was biting herself!! I am ...

Re: Very early signs of kidney failure

Ahhhhh Issi your post made me smile - the last bit - not the first. I was talking to my other friend last night. She lost her cat five years ago. I was there when his organs started to fail - before that he had been doing ok (which is why I don't want to leave it too late). We got the vet out within...

Re: Very early signs of kidney failure

Hi Issi (I hope you are doing ok?), I have tried all kinds of combinations for my cat - nothing really works. Through trial and error the best for her is organic raw food. I am going to look at these recommendations but I don't think the ingredients in them will be good for her. To be honest, having...

Re: Very early signs of kidney failure

Hi Otokcage, Its strange. We didn't know about my other cats kidney failure until it was too late - but for a few months before that, she was - well - suddenly biting herself near her rear end and if I stroked her, I would see that ripple effect. Now my current cat is doing the same thing. I have to...

Re: Very early signs of kidney failure

Hi Otokage, Thanks for this information. My darling has had chronic diarrhea for two years - including anal leakage, so I have to be very careful what I feed her - raw seems to be the best for her but Im going to look into the food you mention here, plus the olive oil and slippery elm. Ive got some ...

Re: How to Handle the loss please?

Hi Tina. I had to reply to you because me and a friend are/have been in the same situation. I have no family or partner either. I even had a group of people that didn't have family a few years ago (online). When my friends beloved dog died, I didn't think she would get through it. Like me, she strug...

Re: The hurt is unbearable

Shaz, my friend lost her dog three years ago and I thought she would kill herself as she and her pup were always together and her dog was very reliant on my friend. I really didnt think she would get over it. She was howling, shaking, and suicidal. She has since moved to Spain but we are in touch. S...

Re: Any advice as to when I should have her pts?

Hello everyone and thanks for your replies. It has helped me actually - now is not the time! Issie, its awful isn't it. My girl hasn't got to that stage and Im in doubt as to whether I should do it any time soon - so that helped me. (love you Cody). Sue, my God that must have been awful for you. Its...

Any advice as to when I should have her pts?

My girl was 18 in January. She has had anal leakage and chronic explosive diarrhea for two year - two loads of washing a day. But in herself she has been fine. Its been up and down over the last several months and Im now starting to think about her quality of life. I wanted to ask all of you - can y...

Re: Night time terrors

Hi Issi. I just had to look up the word "keening" as never heard of it before. Poor you. I kp saying to myself that my cats want me to be happy when they have gone but the real test for me will be when Oody goes as she is the love of my life and I never ewver want to feel this way about an...

Re: Night time terrors

Hi Issi. My friend has been living in Spain for around three years and wants me to go over there. Im not sure how I would cope with the heat (yesterday it was 40c in Spain where she is) and I wouldnt take my old girl anyway as she is 18 and a half. But when my Oody has gone - I am going out for a ho...

Re: Night time terrors

Hi Issie and Mayday, I have all this to come. My 17 year old cat was pts last month but her death hasn't affected me all that much. Know that sounds bad but we were never really close. But my other darling, I am very close to. I am dreading it as know it will be the most challenging time of my life....

Re: Night time terrors

Hi Issi, I totally get your decision. Me and my friend (this is the friend who I thought would kill herself after she lost her dog) were saying a few weeks back that we aren't going to get any more animals - not ones that stay with us for years, as we cannot stand the heartbreak. She lives in Spain ...

Hi Issi. The last post I read on here a while ago was yours in the Overwhelming Grief thread. I read that twice and was happy that things seemed to be getting easier for you. I read it twice because I dont think I will ever get over the loss of my baby when she goes and it gives me hope reading othe...

Re: Potential conflict with vet

I couldn't agree more with what Cussypat wrote about how important it is to have blood tests before any surgery or any other time when a cat becomes older. If the vet we took Blackie to for removal of an upper canine hadn't suggested he should have a FULL blood test in view of his age (12 at that t...

Re: Potential conflict with vet

And Kris..... This is why bloods should be done on older animals before surgery. Anaesthetic protocols change with the risk factors that show up. All anaesthetics carry risks of course, but they can be minimised if you know what the dangers are. Do it once and do it right. Well I took my vets advic...

Re: Overwhelming grief

Also just to say - it comes in waves with me but I have found the Blue Cross "pet" (hate that word) bereavement line is good - depending on who you get, but on the whole they have made me feel better - just for a while, then it hits again. But they are worth a ring when you are on a downwa...
