Re: Meet Charlie and Will

Aww, Charlie met met me at the door this morning - I normally have to prod him to get him to come out to see me. Think they could be ready for homing sooner than we expected. I'm not sure about homing them together though, Charlie is very dominant

Re: CKD and lifespan?

booktigger, thanks he did have a better night - in fact, neither cat woke up us which is a rarity. I suspect he's had it a while as he's slowly lost weight over the last 18 months. I got him checked in the summer and vet and tests could find nothing wrong. At that time he was passing liquid on the ...

Re: IAMS

I'm puzzled - I had an email nearly 2 weeks ago from Zooplus offering the Purina One at £6.99 for 3kg, implying that it was only for a few days, so I ordered some and that's what I paid. I assumed that all of us on here who use Zooplus would get the same email, so didn't post it. I've just checked ...

It varies from cat to cat - unfortunately it is an emotional rollercoaster. Fingers crossed he has a better night.

Re: Kidney disease and diet

There are brands with higher meat content, but unfortunately they also have a higher protein content, so not ideal for cats with kidney issues.

I never fed it, as I always felt it was expensive for the ingredients. That link just says 4.1% salmon, not even minimum, although dried chicken and turkey is obviously higher being the first ingredient. Still not impressed with the ingredient list.

I only picked Lucy's up on Sat and it is going down well, but she's never turned dry food down. The brand is called Farmina, Vet Life.
If he's being picky with renal, I'd give him senior

Re: Meet Charlie and Will

Will seems to be better - he has started spending more time in the top box, which is a lot easier to interact with than the bottom one, and he has started coming out as soon as he hears me walk in and accept a fuss - I have to prod Charlie to make him aware I'm there and that he will get a fuss if h...

Re: Advocate, Frontline or Bob Martin??

I personally use Stronghold, as it covers more things - while it doesn't cover all worms, I do a different wormer less frequently. Like Janey, I don't de-flea as often as I should - my vet actually suggested it with Buster, as he only had one kidney, so the less chemicals, the better. Must ask if sh...

Re: Twinks has her forever home

Thank you :) I love the older and the special needs ones, but my other half wanted a young one (he mentioned kittens a few times!) I can understand why, because for well over a year I couldn't go anywhere for longer than about 12 hours at a time because Pip needed so much care and was on so many me...

Re: How much do you spend on cat food?

Are the PAH pouches the senior ones Desley? - on Tanya's CRD page, they list phosphorus content and PAH senior is the highest - even higher than most adult foods. I noticed today that they sell Kattovit renal dry food, which is quite reasonable compared to brands like Hill's and RC. From memory, a ...

Re: Meet Charlie and Will

Had a fantastic evening with the foster cats last night - I'm amazed at how well and quickly they have come round, with what feels like such little work from me. Charlie realised he was allowed on my knee, so dived on it, and got that excited being fussed he nearly fell off (if I hadn't had my legs ...

Re: How much do you spend on cat food?

Have you looked online for prices of renal wet - think when I was doing the Zooplus order this week, they do RC for around £8 a box, and they do a variety of renal food you can't get over here. If it helps cost wise, you could do half renal and half senior, and maybe try your other cat on senior foo...

Re: Kidney disease and diet

Lucy has been diagnosed with early stage kidney failure today, my vet only suggests changing the dry - it tends to be more palatable and she's had cats go back within normal limits on it, as have I. I'm picking up a bag of one that also contains glucosamine and condrotin this week, I'll post details

Re: Vibes for Lucy please

Hopefully - ironically when we were on the way back from the vet, I said to my neighbour that I didn't think she would get to the kind of age Molly or Buster did. I did say to the vet that I had adopted a younger cat with the hope I wouldn't have to deal with kidney issues quite so soon!! Someone cl...

Re: Vibes for Lucy please

Vet has just rang with the results of her blood tests - as I suspected, she has early stage kidney failure :( Her pre-GA bloods show Urea and Creatnine at the top end of normal, but the SDMA test came back as 16, the top end of normal is 14, so it is very early. We can still do the operation, she wi...

I've had lots of dentals done on old, poorly cats. If they areht eating well, it often is the only option. Not sure about using Ketamine though. Is it a practice with more than one vet?

Re: Acute renal failure any survival chance?

I'm sorry to hear your cat is so poorly - acute is the worst kind unfortunately, prognosis depends on the cause. If the vet said he already had chronic kidney issues, then that could be the cause. I'd give him the time on the IV in the hope it can help enough to figure out the cause, although if thi...
