Re: cat going in neighbours garden
perhaps digging out an earth pit, or setting up a sand pit, in your own garden might help - offering something better than anything available in neighbours' gardens would be my chosen solution, and one which harms no cats or neighbourly sensitivities

I agree - sounds like a bit of post-traumatic stress going on, which is not uncommon in cats when they've had a nasty fright

I have no experience, but I am a bit appalled your vet has sent him home in this state - surely they should have checked at the surgery to see if he could manage - and kept him in after a major op I think all you can do overnight is to pad out the sides of the cage, turn off the lights and hope he s...

alas, Natalie, this is the one question none of us can answer for you, because only you know your Millie enough to judge when she has had enough - most of us have tortured ourselves with this dilemma at one time or another, and those that haven't will almost certainly have it to come the tablets are...

Re: Is a stray cat ok to give to an elderly person?
my mother took on a rescue cat when she was 85, and it made a huge difference to her quality of life I assume like me you will be around to help out if necessary I think the most important thing is to find a cat which likes laps, as your mum will want, I suspect, lots of affection - a quiet older ca...

Re: Health & Behaviour survey for UK Cat Owners
completed, Imogen - but you haven't allowed for cats with access to a catproofed garden only, which is a pity, as it would be interesting to know what effect such restriction has on behaviour compared to free-roaming cats and indoor only also with cats allowed free access by day but shut in at night...

I don't think this is the behaviour of a lazy cat - it sounds much more like a cat which does not have proper control of her bladder, and I do feel some investigations are needed

I've never understood that rule either, Mark - Trigger used to bring up bile 4 days a week around 6am and there was never a trace of food present, and that was when I was leaving food down when I went to bed

Personally I have no problem leaving mine for one night with feeders set to open at meal times, and an extra couple of litter trays - even in the winter, when my only source of heating, a multi-fuel stove, goes out after 16 or so hours, because I leave a thick duvet on my bed folded over so they can...

has he had comprehensive blood tests, or only had his thyroid levels tested? I really think only a vet can help you with this weight loss - there must be something going on if he is eating enough - if you think he is losing weight because he isn't eating enough, then maybe he has problems with his m...

if you are lucky, you will find that Albie's behaviour was as much to do with having his free access to the outside curtailed as the arrival of Beau, especially if he had been coming and going without hinderence for 3 years - refusing to come indoors might have been because he feared being locked in...

Re: My older cat won't accept a rescue kitten
if Leema doesn't retaliate, and Bella doesn't actually hurt her, you're in territory quite familiar to a lot of us - my Tiffany still regularly hisses and swipes at Tosker, and he's been here 4 years - but he doesn't take any notice, and they rub along together well enough engaging them both in play...

welcome to the world of cat worship, MG it does look as if your lodger being male could be the problem, but one she should get over given time on her part, and patience on yours - and of course you shouldn't give up on her and get a kitten - she chose you and this is just a little setback I would ke...

Re: Moving home/long term cattery
I think they would hate the upheaval more than staying where they are, if you could ask them - cats hate change, and by leaving them in the cattery you can move them into the new house when the dust has settled, and they will find familiar people and furniture waiting for them as long as you can tru...

Re: My 10 week year old kitten keeps weeing behind the tv!
Tara, I think if you find yourself getting angry with a kitten for inappropriate toileting habits, when it has only been going on a short while, it may be that kitten-owning is not for you you don't say anything about being really fond of him, and if you're not, then it would be kinder to find anoth...

I think you need to look to the future here, and try to find a solution which can be used for future trips away, not just this one we all have different views on this conundrum - personally I'd say the ideal is to have someone come and live in while you're away, if you know someone reliable - I had ...

my Trigger went on his final journey last Friday - the vet came to my house, which meant I didn't have to force him into a carrier, which he hated he was in his bed in the cat tree, and wasn't sedated - she put a catheter into a vein in his front leg, after clipping the fur (which you might want to ...

there are some indications that Metacam when injected can, very rarely, cause sudden kidney damage, whereas the oral drops are safer, so there could be some logic to your vets' actions the Metacam has a long shelf life anyway after opening, so you might find it useful to have a supply for temporary ...
