Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour

Does Diabolo now have 24/7 outdoor access or still confined to daytime only? Well done him and you for how far he has gotten; so pleased for you all :)

Re: Grieving Cat

I am so sorry :( Not sure I can give much advise; I had two cats Molly and Chloe (also sisters together since birth) that I adoped when they were 8. Chloe sadly developed cancer and had to say good bye to her when she was 13 and shortly after Molly became quite vocal and very clingy. I thought she w...

Re: What do you feed your old cat?

Have you tried warming it up with either a bit of hot water (give it a good stir obviously to make sure it goes a warm temperature) or put it in the microwave for a few seconds - that does sometimes help? Also, if the blood results were all OK, then maybe try some kitten food as that is more fatteni...

Re: Royal Canin food ethics/blocked anal glands!

Hopefully Mark B will see this thread as I'm sure he'll be able to advise - the only food I know of is that RC Fibre Response one - and it's meant to be really good. to be honest, I totally get the ethical dilemma bit, but given there are potential health implications with this one I think (in fact ...

Re: New cat causing havoc at neigbours' property

I've cat proofed my garden using the brackets and netting system and totally agree with Mary - the peace of mind I have knowing that Harry, Ava and Henry can't get out and onto the roads is fantastic. They have 24/7 access to the garden I did the cat proofing myself and in hindsight should have used...

Helen, what did you feed Minnie; i struggled to find any food that didn't contain either fish or cereals. One or the other was OK, but not both - most will all have some form of fish derivative

I'd dearly love to get mine on a raw food diet, but they're just not interested.

Firstly I am so sorry to read your post; so heartbreaking But, and not wanting to be the bearer of bad news, personally I'd get Emily to the vet and have her heart checked. Persians (cats anyway, but some breeds more than others) can be prone to HMC (Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) and it sounds like y...

Re: How can you tell if a long-haired cat is getting fat?

Ava's pedigree name is Astrid. This apparently was going to be the last litter the family were going to have / breed / sell and their children were allowed to name them. It was when the movie "How to tame a dragon" was out and all the kittens ended up with a name from that movie as their p...

Re: How can you tell if a long-haired cat is getting fat?

Maine Coon's and Wedgies aren't related at all - the one comes from Norway and the other from Maine in the US - the reason (or so I understand) that they're called Maine Coon's is because people used to think they were related to Racoon's when they first saw them, due to their size. MC's are the lar...

Re: How can you tell if a long-haired cat is getting fat?

My Ava is 5.8kg (I think) and the vet hasn't ever commented on her weight. When I feel down her sides I can make out (just  ) the ribs and spine which is what they often use to measure body condition and to me she's quite a healthy active cat. Ava probably reached her adult weight when she was ...

Re: Cat wanting to go out?

would he be quieter if Gemo were indoors? Just wondering if you confined both to the house at night - with Gemo having outdoor access during the day only, if that would help him be more settled? I'd probably be tempted to try keep him in until end Feb at least; purely because of the winter weather. ...

It may make sense to take Cookie anyway so they confirm it's a mite issue and not something else. And whilst there they can give the ears a good clean and then Cookie will think of them as the badie and not you :D :D See method in the madness

Re: Cookie and I need your help (ear mites issues)

Another thing is to find a flea treatment that also controls mites and use that on a monthly basis. I use Stronghold on my cats because Abbie is prone to ear mites and it seems to work OK. Which does remind me that I need to give her ears a good clean tonight - it's overdue. But the Surolon in addit...

Meriad I really like the look of the barrel one you have from zooplus. My cat Theo is a big cat so would it be big enough do you think. I know some of the cat posts are more suited for small cats and kittens To be honest, the two that use it most are the two smallest, but it's a fair size. But, giv...

That leads me an interesting point. How long do you guys leave out leftover wet food before you change the bowls or scrub them? My lot usually get 1/2 pouch wet each in the mornings and again in the evenings. The morning bowls are usually left down all day because mine are pickers and there isn't m...

Re: How long should Scratching Posts last?

I have a few around the house. One from a UK maker called Kalven, expensive, but worth every penny. But will be too expensive to send your way I'd have thought. About 5 years or so back I bought one from Ebay and it's still going OK; and it's used a lot - and most of my cats are all on the larger si...

agree with the Letswithpets. Also when looking around make sure the agent gets a yes or no from the landlord. Re: Rust Colored Brown Spots on the top tips of my cat's fur?

how often do you brush your cat? Just wonder if it's dead / dry fur that can be brushed out. In the bottom photo the fur looks quite tufty which from my experience with one of my cats is clumps of fur that brush off? It is a bit odd though and I've never seen the change of colour before so given the...

Is it possible that was left over from a flea that remained in her old home, and they didn't come back with her? No reason why not, so yes that could be the case. I'd probably be tempted to do the flea collar in the vacuum cleaner thing just in case and then see how it goes. Good luck and fingers c...

Re: Hungry cat

I'd be curious what the ingredient list is of the obesity food. Chances are it's mainly cereals used to bulk and fill but won't keep sated for very long. Personally - and many may disagree - I'm not a big fan of the prescription foods unless there is a good medical reason (ie urinary / kidney issue ...
