Re: Cats glucose levels

Did your vet give you any idea of what the normal range was, there are multiple ways of measuring glucose and each uses a different scale, so not knowing what scale is being used makes it impossible to say whether the readings are good or not. When using the app do you have to put in when you feed h...

Re: What is it with renal food?

I managed to pen Freyja in the bathroom, once, it took about 5 years and a complete refurbishment before she would set foot inside the door. I caught her and wrapped her in a towel, once, about 4 years ago, i can just about pick up a handkerchief now without her taking one look and running off. The ...

Re: What is it with renal food?

While I can't help with the renal food, the only special food we have ever used was a sensitive one when we first had Saturn to see if it would help with his cowpats, it didn't seem to do a lot and he went off it half way through the tray of tins, but the shelter he came from accepted them happily s...

I'm also a user of Worlds Best now, my preferred one was Siria, but that isn't available any longer, so I tried Amazons own brand which is very similar to Worlds Best, but slightly course grained and then moved on to Worlds Best as the price is about the same. The only difference is that I use the R...

Re: Need advice on fear of cats

I have to agree with the others that just going on the breed to guarantee a quiet and calm cat may not be the best option. I've known 2 Ragdolls, one we adopted and one a friend has. Blue, our Ragdoll was laidback most of the time, but we did get him when he was 3 years old and he was just as playfu...

Re: Coordinating 4 cats for a New Years/Christmas photo..... :)

Spaska: 'What you doing Daddy, what's that think you are holding, is it for me, can I play with it'. A beautiful photo regardless of Spaska not sitting pretty, she is just being herself and giving you a perfect reminder for the future of the handful she was, for when she eventually settles down. Hop...

Re: cat's pee!

You need an enzyme cleaner specially designed to deal with cat urine to remove it, anything else will leave the scent there, and the scent being there will encourage the cat to remark the area again by peeing on it once more. This is one on Amazon that will give you an idea of what you need. https:/...

I had never heard of Doll Face Persian until you mentioned the name, but a quick Google search and, they are absolutely gorgeous. They are Persians I would consider having, whereas the standard flat faced ones (at least the standard ones over here) I wouldn't as I would not want to encourage the bre...

Re: Spaska got spayed today at 6.5 months, hope it goes well

Siamese were another one I was thinking about when I wrote that, but forgot to mention them at the actual time. I've seen several posts in various places where they compare breeds to how they were in previous decades, both dogs and cats, and I don't think i've seen one that I didn't prefer the older...

Re: Spaska got spayed today at 6.5 months, hope it goes well

i've had a couple of Torti moggies, one back when I was a child and one as an adult, but both came to us as adult cats so I can't really comment on a Torti kitten, both however were two of the most loving cats I've known, but both had their own quirks which they never lost At the same time when i wa...

Re: Spaska got spayed today at 6.5 months, hope it goes well

When i was younger any cat with ginger and black hairs was a tortishell, whether it was distinct markings or just a mottled mess of colour. Now i tend to think of Calicos as having defined areas of black and ginger and tortishell as being more brindles or fleabitten (to use an equestrian term). Whil...

Re: Spaska got spayed today at 6.5 months, hope it goes well

Its been far too long since I had a cat spayed to really comment, the last one was one of the families cats when i was in my mid teens, and she had no cone or anything, but we were told to keep her a bit quiet for a day or so afterwards. They didn't tell her though, she got out of the carrier and in...

Re: Molly's New Challenge

Some cats do seem to prefer to be outside as long as they have somewhere dry to sleep. The first cat I ever had was one like that. We got Rusty when i was 6 and he taught me so much about having a cat, primarily that a cat will do what they want to do. At the time, the house we lived in had an old s...

Re: Molly's New Challenge

I'm like a bad penny, I keep turning up. I have to admit that CC is still a wonderful place, particularly when things are a bit hard. Tiggy has lasted longer than i expected, but she had a check up yesterday, and had lost more weight (from 3kg down to 2.7kg), so while she is lively enough a lot of t...

Re: Molly's New Challenge

Cats are amazing and sometimes realise that there is plenty of resources to go around and are willing to share, and to realise that the other cat isn't out to compete and take territory, but just wants enough for a comfortable life. One of the things that always surprises me is during a hot dry spel...

Re: Molly's New Challenge

In the end it is always 'up to the cat' in my mind, if a cat chooses to be out in all weathers you have to ask why, there was one up the road from me once, many years ago, who lived in a two bedroom house with at least 4 children of varying ages. I one time came home from work to find three cats on ...

I can only agree with the others, dental work at a vets may well be in order, if you have ever experienced tooth ache you will know how bad it can be. I can also add that when one of my cats needed some dental work doing the vet did blood tests before hand and phoned to ask if i wanted to go ahead w...

Re: General advice

While mine are free to roam I don't believe that it is cruel to keep cats indoors only and in some situations it is the best option. The problem comes in keeping cats indoors and not giving them enough to do and to amuse them. As I have heard it said 'the devil makes work for idle paws' and when the...

That video is gorgeous, they obviously have a strong bond, at least when Spaska isn't being a rampaging kitten. A quick look in a cats mouth while they are awake can not tell a vet anywhere near as much as a full check up while the cat is anesthetised, in a way i do hope the vet can find some thing ...

Re: Need advice - cerebellar hypoplasia / wobbly cat

From what I understand CH is caused by a lack of oxygen while in the womb or just at birth damaging the kittens brain, so while it is in a way passed from the mother to the kittens, it has nothing to do with genetics, and everything to do with the health and well being of the mother while pregnant a...

My parents always did Tufty's injections themselves and never had a problem do them. Brilliant news, hopefully the new clinic can find the actual cause of the problem and suggest a way to treat it. As for getting rid of Spaska, it isn't like you haven't tried to find an alternative home, you just haven't been able to find one you think is suitable. If the vet really thinks she shoul...

i wish I could help, but my golden oldie wouldn't cope with a young cat in the house. I would also ask why you feel they need to be trimmed, all the younger cats I've had have managed to maintain their claws themselves, and only as they have got older have I had to trim them. If you don't let your cats outside then maybe investing in a wide range of scratchers would help, a mix of ma...

I'm not really sure, I think it was to do with the kidney issue, but I have a feeling it is all linked in together anyway. The Perfidy of the Pumkin Puss

Since Tiggy has started to have problems with bladder and kidneys, I have also noticed that her stools are also rather hard, something that the vet said is yet another symptom of he condition. I looked for pumpkin puree earlier in the year and to get a jar of pure pumpkin puree, not the pie filling ...
