Re: This has absolutely nothing to do with cats.......

Gruesome!! How does anyone pluck up the courage to go out in Aus? (Probably to get away from the enormous spiders indoors?)

Re: Cystitis

Lily used to get cystitis a lot, and usually we tried antibiotics and cystease (hers were usually infections rather than stress induced). In her case it did develop into bladder stones and we had to operate to remove them (typical Lily, she never does anything by halves!). Now I put her on cystease ...

Re: Can anyone help me with my cats sickness

Lovely pictures on YouTube, she's a beautiful looking puss. So pleased to hear things are starting to look up for her. As you say, she's got a way to go yet, but it's looking much more hopeful, and the vets are finally keeping a careful eye on her. I hope she continues to improve. Hang on in there...

Re: Lump under right arm/leg

When Lily had her lump removed a few weeks ago, they kept her in overnight afterwards to make sure she was properly hydrated (although my lovely vet didn't charge me for that part), and she also had a dental (1 extraction and clean up, plus long lasting antibiotic), and some metacam to go home with,...

Re: Can anyone help me with my cats sickness

I wish the news was better, but it just goes to show that owner's instincts are often right, and sometimes you just have to persevere with the vet to get them to take it seriously. She's in the right place now to give her every chance of recovery. I'll have all my fingers crossed for her today, and ...

Re: Lump under right arm/leg

He's probably just trying to manage your expectations - a full mammary strip is a big operation, and if it is malignant, it may well come back at some stage, although as we never got to that point with Lily I'm not sure what the statistics are on that. You could just ask whether he could start with ...

Antibiotics can have the same effect on cats as on us, ie kill off the natural good bugs in the gut. Will he take a little bit of probiotic natural yoghurt? That might help.

Re: Lump under right arm/leg

The biopsy would involve taking a small sample of the growth under anaesthetic and sending it off for analysis. But my vet took the view that while she's under anaesthetic, they may as well remove the whole lump. In our case we decided not to go for a full mammary strip (ie removing all mammaries on...

It was just a one of when Mitz reacted badly (I think he was on the Nobivac tricat as well), but it might be that so many treatments at once was a bit much for her system. I'm sure she'll pick up again soon.

It's Baby Bird Season again...

Hi all, can I just remind everyone that it's baby bird season again. The parents are busy finding mates, gathering nest material, finding food and, eventually, feeding fledglings, both in and out of the nest. So they're completely distracted and very vulnerable, and the loss of one parent means the ...

Re: Lump under right arm/leg

Marmalade, I wasn't happy about operating on an elderly cat either, but my vet knows Lily's history very well, (poor lass has had awful health problems in the six years I've had her) and was confident that she would come through the operation fine. I was extremely reluctant, so we did full blood tes...

Re: Kitten covered in cradle cap

That's horrifying. At least you rescued this poor little chap before he met the same fate as his litter mates, but I suspect you only just got him in the nick of time. My guess is that the others died of flea anaemia, from what you describe about your poor little chap. Sadly this irresponsible woman...

Re: Fighting after house move

Cats are funny creatures aren't they. It's amazing how they've teamed up again against a common foe. My two would never snuggle up together except when in boarding kennels, when they seemed to find comfort from each other's company when the chips were down. I hope your two are soon back to their old...

Re: Very nervous cat!!

I'd be inclined to keep them both in for a while longer. It won't do Leo any harm, and will avoid the risk of accidental escapes. You need to be really confident that Tiggy is quite settled before you do this, and make sure you give her carefully escorted walks for the first week or two before you l...

Re: Lump under right arm/leg

I went through this with Lily a few weeks ago (she's 16 and generally quite frail). She'd had a lump one of her mammary glands for a while, which one vet wasn't too worried about as she said it might be a fatty lump, and given Lily's medical history I was reluctant to put her through more surgery. B...

Re: Boris is having a scan

Cathy, I was all over the place with worry before Lily's last op - like you, mainly worried about the anaesthetic on a 16 yr old frail cat. But the vet checked her bloods, kept her on a drip for hours before, and overnight after, and she was fine. I think anaesthetics are much better than they used ...

Oh poor little Peaches. Thank heaven she got home to you, and wasn't more seriously hurt. This happened to Mo twice, but each time it just left him stiff, bruised and concussed, and he soon recovered after a rest and some pain relief. Hope Peaches is back to her old self soon.

Re: Very nervous cat!!

No, she's still got a long way to go before letting her out. Definitely keep her in for at least another 2-3 weeks, and even then review it and keep her in a bit longer if necessary. You need to know she feels completely safe in the house, and established relationships with you and your other puss, ...

Re: Can anyone help me with my cats sickness

I would definitely get her back to the vet and ask for blood tests. Unfortunately cats tend to present with these sort of symptoms for any number of medical conditions, which makes it very difficult for vets to get a firm diagnosis sometimes. But she clearly isn't getting any better - you should hav...

Re: Nee kitten. is it indoor or outdoor cat?

I've been lucky in that my last two cats are self-imposed indoor cats - Lily has very little interest in going out, and Mitz, who was blind, would only stay out for short periods in our cat-safe garden, so as HunnyBunny says, it helped my blood pressure no end. But for more "normal" cats, ...
