Re: Fluffy needs an operation!

I never give it more than a couple of days in a row (1/4 teaspoon dose) but I guess we have to find what works for them :) I normally stop Laz's Fibre Response if he stops going. I was wondering if it might not be a good idea adding bulk when they are backed up. I start agin with the fibre when he s...

Re: Fluffy needs an operation!

I know you will be happier when she goes, but as long as she is comfortable, I'm sure there is a fair bit of 'storage space' ;) I just looked on Amazon and the price has gone down. I usually buy it on eBay as is was £25+ for the 14-day size I always buy for about £12 delivered on eBay. Now I can get...

Re: Fluffy needs an operation!

Poor fluffy :( You can buy a cat-safe enema called Microlax. I have one handy but have never managed to use it. Fingers crossed the Miralax comes tomorrow, but it does take a while to work through. Laz did a 1/2 poo overnight but still not happy with the amount. I gave him 1/4 tsp of Miralax late la...

Re: Fluffy needs an operation!

Hopefully she will go soon Carol. I know anaesthetic messes up the digestive system. Mine always seizes up after GA and takes a good few days to get working. I am in the same boat with Laz. He is barely eating so even getting Laxative in him is difficult. As Miralax is odourless & flavourless, I...

Re: Fluffy needs an operation!

Great news Carol :) I wouldn't be surprised if it gives her a new lease of life. I really noticed a difference in Alice after she had her teeth out. They ended up keeping her on the drip overnight, but when I bought her home the following morning. she polished off 1/2 a big tin of supermeat in one s...

Re: My beloved cat is 19 and her kidneys are failing.

I have had 3 cats with it. It really is a rollercoaster as their appetite goes up & down. The smorgasbord thing is a good idea. If she likes dry food, lots of cats that don't like renal food will eat Happy Cat Renal (online from zooplus) another option, not as low in phosphorus as renal food, bu...

The Pets at Home litter tray wipes are safe. They contain the same ingredient as the spray (byotrol) - they are huge and really thick - £2 for a pack of 10

I think a 3 week gap is fine - it is closer to 4 anyway and there must be a good safety margin. It is a different chemical anyway :)

Re: Hyperthyroidism in elderly girl.

Desley, the info on Felimazole says either for use prior to surgery, or long-term. Laz has been on it for over 3 years now. It was before I adopted him, but they said that Vidalta didn't agree with him. I understand the new gel you can rub on the ears has the same ingredient as Felimazole. Apparentl...

How big is your cat?

I was looking through some old photos today and found this. Years ago on purrs, someone said it was hard to tell the size of cats in a photo and suggested we all post photos of our cats next to a DVD to get a better idea. This was Alice's. This was early days when she lived in the attic bedroom - wi...

Re: Fluffy needs an operation!

Poor fluffy :( I know it isn't ideal, but Clapton needed several dentals after he had been diagnosed with kidney disease (4 over 5 years) and didn't come to any harm. I'm sure your vet will advise if it will help to give her fluids before and after the dental to help. PS - The practice owner next do...

Re: 11 month old with constipation

I agree with Sarah & Elaine, 11 months old is very young to suffer from constipation. It is normally something older cats can suffer with. Worth a check up. If it is just something she is prone to, you can alter diet to help by adding water and/or increasing fibre. Worth getting her checked for ...

Re: It's baby bird season again

It is the visiting torties I worry about. They hang about most of the day and are very interested in the birds. I put out leftover cat food (and even buy extra tins!) for the seagulls mainly, but the blackbirds etc are also feeding from it. Last year when I rescued an injured Magpie (that I assume w...

Re: Gourmet Perle Mon Petit (50g) pouches

These have gone down really well with Kylie. No waste and no opening something else if she turn her nose up, so I am going to get some more. It has gone up to £1.50 in Asda and £1.99 in Morrisons (not sold anywhere else yet) so I am going to stock up. She seems satisfied after her 50g wet meal so it...

:(

I guess it reflects the way things are for rescues. It irks me when I see posts about rescues 'not interested in helping' when plenty of cats are going into rescue and very few going out :(

Re: Wet food and cats teeth

I always say the same, but chances are, I will continue adopting older cats with health issues and picky appetites :) Kylie was only 2 when I adopted her in 2002, but to this day, she has never touched real meat, either cooked or raw. Lazarus won't touch any meat or fish. It isn't through want of tr...

Re: Feline Fayre 40 pouch boxes - 2 for £18 in Tesco

It isn't Felix, it is Feline Fayre, which is 100% meat and/or fish _ vitamins in jelly.

Tesco do have Felix As Good as it looks on offer too - 2 boxes for £6

My cats won't eat Feline Fayre but I know some on here feed it.

Feline Fayre 40 pouch boxes - 2 for £18 in Tesco

= 22.5p a pouch - no bad for high meat/fish content food :)

I think it ends on 20/4

The boxes are mixed meat & fish.

Re: Wet food and cats teeth

I don't think dry is any better. When I adopted Kylie in 2002, the vet told me to feed dry only as wet food sticks to the teeth like toffee. Thankfully I chose to ignore her advice. Dry food can stick in teeth just as easily, if not more so. An all-dry diet can cause so many health problems - especi...

Re: It's Baby Bird Season again...

I saw one of the visiting torties stalking a blackbird that was feeding from the bowl of scraps I put out for the seagulls. Thankfully the cat decided that having a cuddle with me was a better option :) - I can't be there all the time so there might be casualties :( I hate the idea that if they catc...

Re: Thryoid problem and teeth problem in our 21 year old cat

I agree with Kay re dosing. They normally recommend retesting after 6 weeks anyway so the dose can be adjusted if necessary. You vet may not be aware, but they started making a 1.25mg Felimazole tablet recently. Prior to that, only 2.5mg & 5mg were available (+ 20mg for dogs) although the 2.5mg ...

Re: Water Flavouring Idea! Please help!

Hi John, You could try a water fountain. They really do encourage most cats to drink more. There is something about flowing water that they like. I'm not aware of anything you can flavour water with. Also cats prefer their water to be in a different place to their food. I remember reading once that ...

Re: Fluffy in discomfort

The smell of Fibre Response reminds me of Bovril crisps :D Great that she likes it. So many prescription foods are unpalatable. I think it takes around 24hrs to go through Laz's system. The reson I know that is because if he seems to be backed up, I cut out the high-fibre food until the laxative has...

Re: Fluffy in discomfort

I don't know how much Fibre Response Laz eats, but a 2kg bag lasts 2 - 3 months - so only a tiny amount, but enough to bulk his poo and help him go. I can't imagine what his poos would be like if he ate nothing else :) I had forgotten about the rotating teeth comb. I will have to dig our one out. I ...
