Re: Advice please... Lucy has an allergy - but to what??

That sounds like powerful stuff. Is it a steroid cream? I presume it's prescription only then? I wonder if it might be worth having some of that in the fridge on standby. I'll give this Vetzyme powder and the Weleda Hypercal stuff a couple of weeks perhaps and then look at trying the harder stuff. U...

Re: Advice please... Lucy has an allergy - but to what??

Thanks Janey, I don't know much about Synulox but repeated antibiotic treatment (twice in as many months) can't be a good thing. I'm hoping the various bits that are arriving later in the week will keep any nasties at bay. We had a good ol' scratching session whilst I was out today. What a mess. It'...

Re: Advice please... Lucy has an allergy - but to what??

That's a good question, Janey. I don't know much about Lucy's vet history. I haven't even been able to find out what food she was on when she was first rehomed, or even if that was working for her. Nobody seems to know. I've been told that they've 'tried steroids' and I remember seeing a Synulox box...

Re: Advice please... Lucy has an allergy - but to what??

Morning ladies, Thanks again for the feedback and recommendations. I've just ordered some wound powder, and some hypercal ointment and hopefully they will arrive this week and we can give them a go. I think I'll order the tincture as well as a backup so that it's at least here if all else fails. I w...

https://photos.app.goo.gl/bRUHhFz6bh5w44Fw9 https://photos.app.goo.gl/nULNTbowH4cdeyEz9 The second picture is where I found her peering out at me after 3 hours frantically searching for her. I'd nipped home during my lunch to check on her and couldn't find her anywhere. She is confined to the spare...

Re: Advice please... Lucy has an allergy - but to what??

This is really encouraging! I'm excited to try new things and to keep her away from nasty steroids if I can help it. After my last stint at stray-fostering with Sir Humphrey (https://www.catchat.org/felineforum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=6964&p=51007#p51007 ...which I will update shortly!) I figur...

Advice please... Lucy has an allergy - but to what??

I am currently fostering a young female Kitty from my local rescue. She was previously rehomed from them (last year) with a suspected food allergy, but was returned to the rescue in May with apparently the same issue, albeit now worse. She has scratch wounds to both sides of her neck (where a collar...

Re: Trapped & Neutered FIV+ stray - now what to do... ?

Hello Ladies, Well, Humphrey's gone. He'd been getting more and more restless over the last few days, crying out and scratching at the bedroom door at night. He was in a big crate in my bedroom for a couple of hours yesterday when the carpet went down but he was impeccably behaved. I put some polyth...

Re: Trapped & Neutered FIV+ stray - now what to do... ?

Well, we've had our last check-up at the vets and they're pleased. He's put on another 200g (now at 4.4kg) and his abscess is closing up nicely. He was very well-behaved - no hissing or growling. Unfortunately his secondary blood test has confirmed his FIV+ status, but I was prepared for that outcom...

Re: Trapped & Neutered FIV+ stray - now what to do... ?

Tonight, I actually saw him play for the first time (with a stinky Valerian pillow from Zooplus... my 'if all else fails'!!!).And he came up for a bit of fuss, albeit briefly. He's a bit stiff in his gait and it takes him a few goes to get comfy in his bed. I buy Yumove for my brother's cat, she bei...

Re: Trapped & Neutered FIV+ stray - an update...

Hi Ladies, Well... we have a little progress to report. The feeder arrived on Tuesday and I set it up straight away. I started with it set on 'open only' and before the end of the day, he was eating biscuits out of it \o/ On Thursday I got him a soft-touch safety collar for his RFID tag (which will ...

Re: Trapped & Neutered FIV+ stray - now what to do... ?

Thanks heaps for this feedback. I was having a crisis of self-doubt this morning. Kay: I wondered if he'd been neutered too late for it to make much of a difference but this gives me hope. I have a small'ish square garden (typical end of terrace) with a bit of grass and a few cat dens here and there...

Update on Humphrey the FIV stray - looks like he's staying

Let's call him Humphrey. Humphrey has been hanging around the immediate streets for two, maybe three years now. A neighbour thinks he was left behind when his owners moved. I have CatCam footage taken in my conservatory in late 2016, showing him sneaking in and eating Hugo's biscuits. At the time he...

New cat / old cat situation worsening: what now? Is all hope lost?

Hello everyone, I've already had some valuable help and reassurance with my new rescue cat trials and tribulations (http://www.catchat.org/felineforum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4413&p=32718#p32718). Alas, since then, things have worsened somewhat and I am hoping some of you can give me some advic...

Re: New rescue cat still upsetting older cat's Chi :(

Well, seems we're pretty much back on form again ... eating the best part of two pouches of RC 12+ a day which is a huge relief! \o/ I've taken delivery of another four boxes of the stuff today. Unfortunately she's become even more of a mardy bum than before she was ill! The more settled Hugo become...

Re: New rescue cat upsetting older (now very poorly) cat's Chi :(

Hi Crewella, Thank you. I sure hope it is just a bug. I heard back from the vet late last night. There was nothing obviously wrong from the blood tests: kidney function within normal range(ish) and just slight dehydration. He said it was unlikely to be the milk since it wasn't an immediate reaction,...

Rescue cat upsetting older (now very poorly) cat's Chi :(

Hello Jacks :) Your story is lovely and gives me some hope. Well we haven't made any progress towards inter-feline harmony but we have another problem now: Kitty's stopped eating. I got home Tuesday night and neither of them came to meet me. I thought it might be a protest at the heating not coming ...

Re: New rescue cat upsetting older cat's Chi : advice please?

Hi Crewella :) All fusses gratefully received at this end! Sometimes I think we might be mellowing out a little at last... and then other times we seem to have gone a bit backwards again. Last night Hugo behaved like an old drunkard! ...following Kitty around everywhere, sitting in her escape routes...

Re: New rescue cat upsetting older cat's Chi : advice please?

Hello Crewella, Thank you for this. It's reassuring, and I can see that it could be a lot worse! I've read through lots of old posts about cats physically fighting and the serious psychological fallout from it. Neither of them are scrappers, least of all him. She's just so obviously unsettled and it...

New rescue cat upsetting older cat's Chi :(

Kitty came from the RSPCA in 2007 and up until until recently she has been the only cat in the household. She has never really had any cat friends, except a ginger cat when we lived in Leeds a few years back. She is very nervous of other cats. She's not aggressive as such, until approached by one, a...
