Re: How to keep kitty off the hot stove

Because my cats are indoors due to my neighbour situation and not by my choice - or theirs - I've never felt right about telling them they can't go somewhere, so I've never said "no" to them going where they want, unless they are being destructive in the process. Very early in the piece i...

Re: Felix in Australia.....

I never thought of myself as a mother in the "mother's day" mode, but you're right, I am the cats' mother, and I've had a lovely day - although it was just housework/washing followed by an hour of weeding outdoors, then a hot shower and a nap, surrounded by most of my little family. What ...

Re: Felix in Australia.....

Most of the time keeping a large number of cats isn't too bad, except when it comes to vaccination time!! Most of the time I can feed them fairly economically as I wait for specials and stock up, or when they take a fancy to the cheaper brands. The most expensive part of feeding them is the mince t...

Just a thought - the length of time it is taking for Cheyenne to settle reminds me a bit of Maureen from the US and Izzy. Some of you may remember how long it took for Izzy to leave her safe spot in the basement and explore upstairs - and it turned out that Izzy is blind!!! and this hadn't been pic...

Re: Fetch Kitty

In my experience Siamese in particular love fetching - mine from many years ago always lay in wait every time I took the cellophane off my cigarette packets, and we'd play fetch until they stopped making that crinkly sound they so loved. :( So many years ago and I remember like yesterday! A couple ...

Re: Felix in Australia.....

Thanks. I didn't think about dry food. Mine always have dry available, so that would make a difference. If I averaged things out, with some preferring wet and some dry etc, I probably feed mine the equivalent of 1.5 - 2 pouches each per day, plus dry. At the moment most of my cats just adore the su...

Re: The supervet

That's amazing, although we should expect that the same things which work on humans would work on our pets and all other animals. A very early episode of Bondi Vet had an episode about a cat which had been poisoned with paracetamol who arrested. The cat was already on oxygen and the vet "massa...

Felix in Australia.....

I was quite excited the other week to find that Coles Supermarkets have introduced Felix pouches. Of course I don't know if this is the same product (made by Purina) that you guys often mention, but at least it's something different on the shelves. Applaws has been a complete failure in this househ...

Re: OPINIONS PLEASE.....BARNEYS FIRST TRIP OUTDOORS !!!!

Boy, can I relate! Perhaps to give yourself a bit of extra security, let Barney out when he's hungry and just about due for a meal. Hopefully that will ensure that even if he wanders off a bit too far for your nerves that he'll return reasonably quickly. Looking forward to updates.

Re: Desperate for advice.

If you try to enter the shed bearing gifts, i.e. some plates of food, water and kitten milk, you might at least be able to get to the entrance and take a look around. If they are her kits and she is protecting them fiercely you may just need to wait outside and see if she'll approach you. Once you ...

Re: OPINIONS PLEASE.....BARNEYS FIRST TRIP OUTDOORS !!!!

Hi Julie, it seems as if Barney is doing very well. I had to smile to myself - you have to encourage him to go outside - I have to beware every time I open my front door that one or the other of mine may be lurking and waiting on his or her chance to get out between my legs, so sometimes I wish my ...

Can't believe the emergency vet said not much could be done - that is shocking! how is the little one today; were you able get some kitten formula and a bottle? I agree. Why not say "Come down and pick up a bottle and some formula for him?". Hope he is all right, poor little thing.

Re: little dots on the sofa

Yes, for sure, make sure you thoroughly treat your home and wash and treat the cat bedding etc - and vacuum like a maniac as there will be eggs everywhere the cats have been - then discard your vacuum bag. Hope you've managed to catch it before you have a major outbreak.

Re: How to get a cat to play?

I believe from what I've read that Bengals are VERY playful and active and take really well to going for walks in a harness and lead! I've found that all of my cats, even the older more sedate ones, absolutely lose themselves with "Da Bird" - basically a long thin stick with about a metre...

Fingers x'd that Bailey is more normal tomorrow. It's awful when we aren't sure if there's something seriously wrong or if there's just some post-op reaction going on. When three of my cats had dentals a couple of years ago, Lily needed more sedation than the other two (methadone) and was really wi...

Oh she looks like a long haired cat head grafted on to a Sphynx body. Is her furless body really hot ? That was something I didn't know about Sphynx, that their bodies are so hot. I actually had to ask the vet about Jagger's temperature when I visited to introduce him. They feel like hot water bott...

Re: HELP I found lumps on my 18 yr old cats abdomen ..Cancer

I'm so very sorry about your girl. You know your cat better than anyone, so I think a second opinion is in order - I suppose it could be some sort of infection/inflammation which would respond to antibiotics or steroids, but an injection of these rather than a course of tablets would show an improv...

Hi Angela. I don't have any experience, but it could be epilepsy - in any case it certainly doesn't sound normal so I'd get her to the vet. Poor Goldie. Doris has probably come home carrying strange scents, so it's still possible that Goldie has been missing her but as yet doesn't recognise her. I'...
