Re: Can Stage 2 Kidney Disease Be Managed And Prescription Question

With diet and/or medication, kidney values certainly can reduce. You've mentioned kidney disease, but methimazole is for thyroid function, if she has both, treating thyroid normally makes kidney function worse, as the increased blood flow with thyroid disease helps kidney function

Re: Help... My cat won't eat!!

Ok thank you for the correction, I did look it up and Purina's website was to say it mildly unclear: Discover our Pro Plan Optirenal cat food, scientifically formulated for the nutritional management of kidney problems in cats. Nutritional management isn't the same as prevention, I think that is re...

Re: Help... My cat won't eat!!

Molly, Optirenal isn't Purina's renal diet, rather randomly they called that NF. This Optirenal came in a few years back when they repackaged their adult food, it apparently has a special formula, but it's targeted at cats 1+, so I stopped using it then, as I didn't like the idea of it Contains OPTI...

Re: Blood Test Advice

As I said, I'm still convinced it's connected to her hip op, although pre Covid, we were struggling to get hold of her meds, as they are human meds, but not a dosage humans often take (they come in 10mg or 70mg, humans can do one a day or one a week, I know which one I'd go for), so we tried giving ...

Re: Blood Test Advice

Thanks. I don't like the thought of idiopathic, but I suppose once you'd done £3k worth of tests and ruled out all the standard causes, you kind of have to accept it. I was hoping we could have found a diagnosis and then it might have been treatable, but at least we went for the once a week medicati...

Re: Blood Test Advice

Thank you, that makes me feel better. The note about the SDMA mentions likely impaired GFR and renal function, not sure what GFR is. Her CKD diagnosis was March, her IHC was June the same year, just after her hip op, that numerous vets have told me isn't related - still seems odd you remove part of ...

Re: Blood Test Advice

Picked up Lucy's meds and blood results today, not quite as happy as when the message from the vet was nothing concerning! There are two red items on it, her SDMA is the highest it's been, at 18 (top end of scale 14) - it was 16 on diagnosis in 2017 and we did get it down to 9 in 2019, so I think th...

After two days, they shouldn't be at the meeting stage yet, have you got a room to put the newcomer in, so they can get used to each other slowly?

Re: Gabapentin 25mg from online pharmacy?

The liquid version is mega expensive, Lucy has that as she doesn't like the tablets, a bottle costs me £107, it's supposed to be used within x months, but I use it till it runs out, or I'd be throwing £50 away, as unfortunately it only comes in one size bottle and I did try looking into ordering tha...

Re: Blood Test Advice

Had a voice mail from the vet, she said there is nothing concerning about any of her blood tests and her calcium is normal, so didn't need to speak to me. I'm picking up a copy of her results next week when I go for her meds. At least it seems the weight loss is the diet and nothing sinister. I doub...

Re: Blood Test Advice

Thanks, glad they sound upper part of normal, seeing as it's 5 years since her initial diagnosis. I'll just stick to what we have been doing, and glad that her refusing renal wet hasn't had an impact on her values (although she only had 2 pouches a week, as more affected her calcium levels). I just ...

Re: Blood Test Advice

Rang today, partly to chase the results and partly to order her gabapentin, I'm on the list for a phone call tomorrow, there was a delay with her calcium results. I did get the receptionist to tell me her Urea and Creatnine though, she said Urea is 7.1 and Creatnine 120, and said both said normal at...

I must admit, given they are a laid back breed, I thought he would have been better than he is by now. Glad you have found some wet food he'll eat, have you tried the Mon Petit pouches - I only buy them on offer, as they can be pricey otherwise.

Re: Please meet Teddy

Not sure they'd be ready for full reign of the house, when I get up on a weekend to feed them and go back to bed, they fly back in their room, so not sure I'd want that for them 24/7. I also haven't often gone out to find cats, most find me but that will be different now I'm no longer volunteering.

Re: Please meet Teddy

I'm the same, and I never fully enjoyed fostering kittens, mainly because of how hard work it is coming in after a full days work and having to do the cleaning before you can do the fun part of playing with them. I normally take over 12's, as I hate the thought of them being in a rescue at the end o...

Well, yesterday was the day. She did well being starved, it was girls night out, so I got up, fed them, and me and Lucy chilled in bed watching TV. She has lost weight, now 5.2kg from 5.8kg last year, I'm just hoping it's the diet and nothing more! Apparently she went down really quickly, so they di...

I'd try feeding them further apart, not all cats like eating so close to another - I have a mother and daughter who won't eat next to each other, they eat a few feet apart from each other.

Can I just ask, if he went for his yearly booster, why is he going again in 3 weeks for another one? If done in time, yearly ones are just one appointment. Would it be possible to ask for a home visit to lessen the stress on him?

Re: Attacking Mother

Please be careful with mum and kitten being out unneutered, or they could both end up pregnant, and there are also risks to the kitten, as even if she's had both vaccinations, she won't have full protection by now (if first was at 8 weeks and second at 11), so while it might be hard to resist a kitt...

I'm so sorry to hear you finally had to say goodbye, after all the scares, but I think you did the right thing by not putting her through that test to see if you could buy her more time, it would have only been prolonging the inevitable. I think relief is natural when they have had a prolonged illne...

Re: Attacking Mother

Mum cats can start pushing their young away, but the kitten is quite young for that, and it's normally mother/son that's the worst combination. I do wonder though, you said about her showing the kitten to climb the tree, does that mean they are going outside? And is mum neutered? It's rare, but kitt...

Re: 9 month old Russian blue - lymphoma

I'm sorry to hear this, it's always devastating news, but much worse in such a young cat. Just to reiterate what FJM said about chemo, my friend used it on her 14 year old cat and she seemed to tolerate it quite well, she just had to spend the day at the vets, first having bloods to make sure she wa...

Re: Sensing I'm ill

That would make a lot of sense, I've often wondered if it's the closeness of sound, sneezing and dropping cutlery make her jump more than other things. She loves bags, we have a carrier bag on the floor at the moment as she likes to sit on it and play with it! I did end up swearing at her the other ...

Re: Sensing I'm ill

Yet another similarity - this is Lucy's 4th home (although she did two stints at the rescue, as the first person who offered her a home had to give up after 6 months as she was making one of his other cats ill), so I fully expected her to take at least 6 months to relax and realise she wasn't going ...

I'm sorry that people have tried blaming you, but sadly there are no guarantees hand rearing kittens with no mum, and with them having diarrhea from the start, there may well have been something underlying that you couldn't do anything about. I'm shocked that people would blame you for taking them t...

Sorry to go off subject, but Lucy has issues with the time I come home as well, up until last year, I went to my neighbours after work, so Lucy got used to me being late, and associated me coming home on time with a vet visit, so I had to try and book them a bit later to keep the routine, or she wou...

I also use poo bags, which ones do you get off Amazon Ruth, I've struggled to get decent ones in recent years, the current ones are a bit thin. Re: Older owners and Cat care

We had a fosterer with mobility issues who used a chair to do the litter trays, although she did have help with putting the used litter in the outside bin. I wouldn't recommend a kitten or probably a young cat, mainly for similar reasons to Susan, kittens are enough of a trip hazard for agile people...
