Re: My feral cats - further advice needed!

I've got a couple of ex ferals and one very feral cat. It's amazing, but almost as soon as the visitors have left, they suddenly re-appear - glad all went well.

Re: Moving from a house with garden to a flat

What floor will the flat be on? Will you have your own entrance or shared? Are you going to be in a quiet area or main road? Will you have a garden either your own or shared?

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

Lucy is still with me, but definitely slowing down. Getting her to eat is getting harder. I am frustrated. Not with her, but with the cruelty of this situation. Tried blending the food and sometimes adding some hot water to make it smell stronger but she turned her nose straight up at that. I think ...

My cats are biscuit monsters which is why the powders have failed. The Easeflex can be broken up and put in with their favorite biscuits...he he...Thanks for all the supplier tips.

Re: Thank you lmills and Marla (alternative meds for stiff joints)

Very interesting post. I've got Yumove for my boy but he just hates it. My vet told me its the green lipped muscle that does the good work. Unfortunately he hates it though but I'll preservere after reading this. I got him to take Easeflex but the Amazon supplier was atrocious (Vetimed). The ad show...

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

So here's a weird thing. I've noticed that Lucy is more willing to eat if she can hear one of the others cats eating nearby too....not sure of the cat psychology behind this but it's come in useful a few times (-:

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

Yes I guess there probably is an element of it being weather related but funnily enough my cat Alice was the same a few years ago during her last few weeks. I sometimes wondered if it was the instinct of going off the way elephants do...))-: Every day is a blessing but also very fraught, it's like l...

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

Just a quick update on Lucy in case this helps anyone else looking after a cat with oral cancer. She's only really eating chicken and fish now, I guess her sense of smell is going. She will eat freshly cooked chicken which i tear up into small strips for her. She has been eating shop bought ready co...

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

So true about euthanasia. Sometimes I find Lucy in such a deep sleep it seems as if she has gone and I feel myself wishing that for her because to go peacefully in her sleep is kindest for everyone. Pussy sounds like a brave little cat too. Well they all are aren't they. And sometimes very stubborn!...

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

Just a quick update on my little girlie. 2 months post diagnosis of her oral cancer, she is still with me. She is having antibiotics and pain meds. She still has a quality of life - sleeping on the bed with me, going out into the garden (supervised), and she is getting around the house better. She h...

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

I've googled it and apparently quite common in older cats especially if their senses are impaired. Indicates confusion etc. I've confined her to the bedroom for the night away from the younger cats, and fed her. She's had a wee and settled down until our 1am medicine alarm (she's worth it.) She know...

Re: Our diabetic cat is licking her litter.

I was told that cancer drains all the nutrients from your cat so they have to get more vitamins etc and cat litter of certain types can contain these. I took my Lucy off the treats (chicken tuna etc) and onto the professional foods (luxury ranges as she has oral issues ) and straight away she stoppe...

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

Lucy is on special food so I have to feed her separately. Mostly paté type meals so they are soft on her mouth (roof of her mouth is problem area ), some chicken or prawns diced up small. Feeding her is massively stressful because the others all know the sound of a gourmet pate or sachet opening. So...

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

Thank you so much for your kind words Alan. Lucys cancer isn't spreading as quickly as they expected but its (although never biopsied because of the location) one of the real nasty ones being likely oral in origin and the reason for her blindness. Every cuddle, every purr, every minute spent explori...

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

Thanks for the advice Alan. Lucy hasn't ventured too far as yet. Hard to explain but they were from Lidl so need to keep an eye out for more. I'll be o...

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

Thanks Cruella. The others are actually pretty good once they work out something is wrong. After being annoying around her for the first few days i think they're now realising she can't react to them as she would have done before and giving her a wider berth. Last night was heartstopping as she came...

Alan he is a handsome boy. Yes thank goodness for whiskers. Thank you Cruella. I'll definitely try that with the oops.
Did you let her use the cat flap still? Our garden is secure but I'll need to build up a step as it's a big drop outside. She hasn't shown any interest in it yet....I'm worried about going back to work tomorrow

Re: Why is cat always hungry?

Agree with the others. Get him wormed firstly.
Ex strays often overeat too.
You haven't said if he's overweight or thin but is definitely get him blood tested. Overeating can be just a greedy cat but can mean your cat is compensating for an underlying issue.

Re: Advice on caring for a blind cat

Thank you yes I'll definitely need to look at getting steps for her favourite places. She's been out in the garden with me today . Re: cat has been very mean, hissing and scratching for the past week and a half?

Her aggression is unfortunately probably her mothering protective instinct. Hopefully this will settle down after she i speyed and separated from the kittens. I've seen this behaviour a lot in the homeless pregnant strays I've fostered. Please talk to your vet about getting her sorted asap. She's li...

Advice on caring for a blind cat

So my already very poorly cat went blind the day after I increased her vetergesic to 2'8 no 3 times a day. She was really spaced out. The only connection I could see researching this was that it can in rare cases cause hypertension which cause blindness but the very checked this and says it's normal...

Re: Blackie's belly licking/scratching ..

Don't be fooled by your cat looking nonchalant, cats hide a myriad of emotions. We have problems with other cats, often caused by ME feeling sorry for them as they are obviously neglected and it has brought untold stress to my own cats so I'm harsher now I'm afraid. My cats only go out the back so w...
