Re: Possible health problems with feral cats

Hi and thank you for caring about these cats! If a cat is scratching his ear, it is likely to be mites/ear infection. A they are feral, it is hard to tell! So...... Gt a SPOT-ON treatment from your vet (NOT SUPERMARKET). Wait till cat is sleeping and apply. If the ear scratching continues, there is ...

He is 10-12 years old. He is continuing to do well I think, but need a new weight-in!

Re: Refusal of adoption of indoor cats

If the cat is happy indoors, it is safer for sure, but is also certainly missing out on life. Same as any human really! Not sure why people are getting so worked up about this issue to be honest......

Re: Refusal of adoption of indoor cats

As I said, it depends on the cat. They have the widest variety of personalities next to humans. Some cats are happy to be indoor only, others are utterly miserable. I let the cats decide here. Minnie (who is very old) is staying in a lot lately. Holmsey is very outdoorsy but is not well so is locked...

Re: Refusal of adoption of indoor cats

When I assess a new home, I assess the compatibility. Some cats are great indoor, but others are not. I try to be a matchmaker. Some cats need indoor homes. some cats cannot be let out due to traffic etc.
You have to match the right person to the cat.

Re: Litter Box Issues! Help!

So I have two cats, Kleio (female) is 1, and Bear (male) is 10 months. Bear is amazing with the litter tray, never has any accidents. Kleio on the other hand has become a nightmare. She will purposely push over the washing basket to pee on clothes. If clothes left in bathroom, she will pee on them,...

Re: cat colds- harpies

I agree with Camdengirl. I totally understand the desperation to save the animal in front of you, but messing around with pharmaceuticals, with zero training, is never a good plan long term. The reasons for this are manifold. Antibiotic resistance is a HUGE concern. Many people think they are fine, ...

Holmsey not well

He is a long black male that I I herited from my aunt when she died of cancer. He had lost weight and had terrible diarrhoea, so we went to the vets. Treated with parazole for giardiasis, metronidazole for whatever else, and on hills ID food. He put on 200g in two days! So he is responding well to t...

Ah crewella, I love that video! I think I see what was meant by the "scrawnier" comment now too. Like they should have used skinny ferals and shown the difference after neutering. A good point. I think to get the message out though, we need a variety of approaches. Some will work on certai...

They NEED names..... Absolutely. Even if that name is a silly one or a boring one. It means SOMEBODY cares enough to take the time to see them as the individual they are. I was on a factory farm this week, but will post about that separately.

Re: my cat died today, it was my fault

I know what you mean about getting used to them dying. I suppose I am used to certain types of cat dying..... Like Gallagher. All his siblings went before him (one was euthanised, the other 2 found like he was). I am not really bothered about what happens to their bodies after they die. That sounds ...

I just re-read my last post and realise it sounds like we inherited millions ha ha! Far from that, we didn't even cover our mortgage, but managed to reduce it significantly. I worked at a boarding kennels last Summer to pay my first semester fees, doing 14-16 hour days. Second semester fees went on ...

I have the same issue Julie, and have "worming months". March is one of them lol! I like the parazole liquid as it covers all the internal parasites, including lungworm and treats giardiasis too. The cats have other ideas though, so there is no way I can get it into all of them. One bottle...

My Minnie is around 18 and had surgery for mammary cancer 2.5 years ago. She had lost loads of weight while she had the cancer, but is fatter now and in great health. She is not as fat as she was, but still has a BCD of 2.5/5.

If a cat sts eating it is a sign of I'll health, and a dangerous one at that. As soon as the cat refuses food, go to a vet.

You ARE me when I was 30. I wanted it then, but had not the money. Ten years changed my circumstances. I didn't win the lotto, but married a man who later inherited some money. As a joint decision we invested in my education as a vet nurse. I would never have thought this possible when I was 30. My ...

You don't flush them alive do you?!? My Dad has rescued fish. The big catfish ones that suck algae and clean the tank for you. Fantastic they are improving! And yes about the tetracycline...... A live cat with PURPLE teeth would be a small price to pay! Silliness! Re: Sad story of Hamlet (distressing content)

Yes, at least we found him eventually, and ended his suffering. The weather wasn't warm and there weren't many flies about. The vet even said, as I was bringing him in, that we were lucky it wasn't fly season. If the farmer had got to him when he first saw him (not realising it was a cat) then he co...

I found little Gallagher dead 2 evenings ago. He didn't come for his supper so I went looking for him. I was hoping he was dead rather than screaming in agony with saddle thrombosis. I found him in one of the straw beds in the garage, curled up. I think he went in his sleep. His entire litter had ba...

Re: long claws problem. advice please.

Oldies do sometimes need their claws trimmed, when they get caught in things as has been said. It is very simple to do, but best pay the first time and get the vet/nurse to show you how to do it properly. Oldoes just don't groom as well as the young guns basically!

Sad story of Hamlet (distressing content)

So...... Some of you may remember Hamlet, the orange and white kitten dumped in a box at my old vets, who ended up with me...... A great little chap, who grew up being called "Fatty Ham-ham" as he was always so chubby........ Well, he went missing a while back. No sign of him ANYWHERE, and...

Re: my cat died today, it was my fault

This post made me well up. I have lost a LOT of cats..... To old age, illness, genetics, dog attacks, maggots, slurry pits, and roads. The very WORST is when it is sudden and unexpected. I remember once returning home after a walk with my (now) husband and the dogs, to see Minnie run across the road...

Hi there, Is there any way at all you could keep him? Or have you friends or family you trust who would take him for you (even temporarily, while your circumstances improve). It is difficult to suggest what to do without knowing the actual situation really. It must be very tough on you to have to re...
