Re: Stopping food before sedation
Thanks for your replies. I had a feeling it would be alright til around 11-12 but wanted to ask here. Bailey is a lovely cat but doesn't like being handled and can give a nasty bite when stressed. She needs this blood test though as she's been on steroids for six months for chronic bronchitis which ...

Stopping food before sedation
My cat is having a blood test tomorrow and because she is very stressy and difficult may need sedation. I've picked up all the food now but wondering if she could have something now or is it too late?

Re: Teeth
Hi Ria, thanks so much for the link and taking the time to search :) that looks exactly what I've been looking for, I'm going to order some and the treats. I can't see anything in the ingredients to upset their tums and the kibble looks a good size so we'll see! Hi andybriz, two of mine have had den...

Re: Teeth
I wonder if there are chewy things for cats like there are for dogs to chew on, don't know if it's food or just toys. Two of ours catch mice occasionally and the odd bird so was surprised at them turning up their noses at the chicken wings!

Teeth
Hi, my vet says all my (6) cats have some gingivitis on the upper gums and says all cats tend to develop it at some stage. Of course he recommends dry dental biscuits to keep the teeth clean although we all know that's a myth! But as my furry crew like dry food to graze on I bought some Royal Canin ...

Re: Rehoming and behavioural issues - desperate for help.
Hi, so sorry to hear you're going through such a stressful time, poor cats and poor you too :( I took on my DIL's two cats in April last year for the same reasons and it has taken over a year for them to settle and feel comfortable with us. One of them still sprays indoors occasionally but it's gett...

Re: Short matted fur problem.
Thanks Mark for the info and link. A trip to the vet for a check up followed by a groomer will be the next step, probably less annoying for Alfie than my pulling and fiddling with his fur! I've looked at the Oster clippers online, it's hard to tell which are smaller and more suitable for cats though?

Re: Short matted fur problem.
Hi Mark, did you clip out the matts or clip all the fur off? Another of our cats who came to us last year with badly matted long fur was shaved at the vets. She had a lion cut which she needed but she has had behavioural issues since with stress and spraying. We thought when her fur grew back she wo...

Re: Short matted fur problem.
Thanks for the your replies. Alfie's fur is so dense that even the detangle comb can't get right into it properly. All my cats, long haired and short have no matts due to a daily comb-through when they come in. Alfie hates it so I've obviously not kept an eye on his matts getting worse. Thanks for t...

Thanks Crewella, some of the knots pull apart but some are really tight and being short they are hard to get hold of to snip out. I'll have to persevere ..

Short matted fur problem.
Alfie is a 7yo BSH whose fur is very thick and needs regular brushing due to excessive moulting all year round. This summer his fur has become very knotted and looks like he's been fighting! I've tried gently pulling the knots apart and combing them out with a detangle comb but they are so tight and...

Re: Frontline for a cat after giving him antibiotics?
Hi, I tend to wait a week if any of my cats have been poorly, before giving spot on. Whether waiting is necessary I don't know, just seems right to me. Also I've heard frontline or any over the counter treatments don't always work well, better to get one from the vet eg Frontline Combo. Well done fo...

Hi, I can't really add anything useful except to say feliway is cheaper online. Animed has free delivery but takes 3-5 days. I find it calms my lot down so hope it works for yours. Good luck.

Hi, had to chuckle when I read your post although I know how exhausting this is. We also have a female ragdoll, 7 years old Bailey, who likes to wake me from about 5am with walking on me,purring loudly in my ear and kneading my head! The other five cats are male and no bother at all. I need my sleep...

Hi, sorry to hear this, you must feel torn. I took on my daughter in law's two cats when baby came along, as they were going to be given to the rspca. They're beautiful long haired cats who were getting very stressed and neglected and luckily we could take them although they've had to get used to li...

Re: Treating mild gingivitis
I bought chicken wings for all my lot to try and they took one sniff and walked off but they've never had raw food before. Even our latest ex stray who lived on mice etc, wasn't interested! Beakers teeth looked okay apart from one tooth at the back where the gum line looked very inflamed around it, ...

Re: Treating mild gingivitis
Hi Cussypat, wow, 28! That's a great old age. Can you tell me what medical treatment he had? All my cats are between 7 -8 years and all showing signs of tartar on their teeth. One of them has hcm so would be interested to know what I can do for him as a ga will probably be ruled out. I've started th...

Re: Advocate?
Hi Joanne, Two week gap should be fine but maybe next time use droncit or drontal tapewormer (assuming you used a different wormer) every six months if you're using Advocate as that's the worm it doesn't cover.

Re: Treating mild gingivitis
Thanks Anna. I took another of our cats for a checkup yesterday, he also has mild gingivitis but the vet said to keep an eye on it and watch out for any signs of discomfort in the meantime. This is different advice to the previous vet but will be booking dentals over the next few weeks. I suppose wi...

Treating mild gingivitis
Hi, two of our cats had boosters and checkups today and they both have some inflammation on part of their gums. Beaker has just one tooth at the back where the gum looks red along the edge, the other teeth look ok. Bailey has a little redness on both sides of her mouth on the gum line. The vet sugge...

We have a fatty too, a really greedy ex-stray! I was picking up all the food during the day and overnight but I've got lazy about it recently! Our other five cats are grazers and one needs to put on weight (lost it due to health issues). Our old Ginger was fat and he developed diabetes so I really n...

Re: Best worming treatment?
Hi, my lot have Droncit for tapeworm every six months. The only drawback with that is the bigger cats (5-6kg) need three pipettes and the smaller ones (3-4 kg) have two. That's a lot of wetness on the back of the necks and am thinking of changing to Drontal. It's bad enough for them to hold still fo...

Thanks for your advice, I'm feeling pleased with myself this morning! I wrapped a towel round Bailey and pilled her before she knew what was happening! She clenched her jaw but she opened just enough to see it disappear down the hatch :D She ate a little from Beakers bowl but not her own so she won'...

Re: Pilling ideas for a tricky puss please!
Thanks Crewella, I think I will have to try 'down the hatch' again as she wouldn't take it in food or in treats. Trouble is there are two and a half pills twice a day and she is a big strong cat who doesn't like being handled too much. When the vet tried to take blood last time she came out with sha...
