Re: Litter trays

Aw good luck with your new babies when you get them and so sorry about your recent loss - it's very hard and like you we have never been without a cat(s) for the last 30 years. If you are getting kittens at the same time you probably shouldn't have too many problems with litter trays - you definitel...

Re: How do they know?

Thanks - I think he may be off me for the night as I managed to give him a dose of flea drops earlier on so he's run off but I'm sure he'll be here in the morning. Something really weird happened a couple of hours ago when I found a tiny piece of cat litter in my dressing gown pocket. I'm pretty sur...

How do they know?

Hi - I haven't been on here in a few months - all work and no play. On Wed we lost our oldest boy Maxie - he was almost 14 and had heart failure as well as being blind and very arthritic. We couldn't watch him suffer any more as over the last few weeks he had stopped spending time with us and would ...

Re: Totally at a loss!

I would also try to take him with you. If he comes into the house and goes upstairs to sleep that is a great time to shut the catflap and keep him in although trying to pack up your belongings might be difficult and also distress him. Another option might be to trap him and put him in a cattery for ...

Re: cat behaviour

Over the years I've had cats who have done this - especially if the wallpaper is nice and soft like blown vinyl where they can get their claws in and have a good tug  Was the damage near his litter tray as that might explain it as he's scratched to cover his business? I would certainly recommen...

Re: PRA- Blind Kitten

Its heartwarming to know you have kept her and not given her back to the breeder. As others have said being blind from the start she won't know any different and will cope very well once she gets used to her new surroundings. There are some excellent tips above so I'm sure you'll be fine. Our old bo...

I'm so sorry about Millie - we lost Max on Thurs with the same problem. It's so hard to watch them suffer and you know it's the last kindness you can do for them but it doesn't make it any easier. Take care x

Re: Stray with a lump

Hi - I'm glad it turns out this little one has an owner and has been treated but I have had a similar issue with the RSPCA and the stray I feed. He was very ill a few months ago with a an infected abscess - it coincided with a large cost I'd already had with Daphne who'd had to be sedated and a prob...

Re: One of THOSE days!

:D Your post made me laugh Bobby - most of my days begin that way! Yesterday I got up to discover that Daphne had ignored all 5 litter trays (in a small 2 bed apartment) favouring the toilet mat instead. Nightly wrenching is fairly common too - guzzling her supper biscuits too fast results in them b...

Re: I have to ask... so many times you hear about

I have 5 carriers, 4 of them plastic - touch wood I've never had an escape but I am a bit paranoid about it and always make sure I hold them underneath. The other one is a wooden one someone made for us nearly 30 years ago - it has a lift up lid which is the only way I can get Daph in one and is bri...

Re: Mama Cass is missing (I think)

Glad she's back. Mr B goes missing sometimes for a couple of days - I used to worry but realise he's a bit of a free loader and is probably in someone else's house enjoying their comforts :-) We have had two other strays over the last few years who have disappeared completely though which is worrying.

Re: Please can I have advice so desperate :(

Hi there - the vet will give you some special cat litter which doesn't absorb the liquid - it also has a small syringe with it and a sample bottle. The trick is to get him to pee in the tray and get the sample fairly quickly. If you can't get it to the vets straight away put it in the fridge (wrappe...

Hi it's very strange but there was a cat sounds just like yours on Cats From Hell I watched last night - this one was a Bengal so very intelligent and also very active. That owner was also able to take him out on a harness and one of the recommendations from Jackson Galaxy was to take him on regular...

Re: Early morning wake up calls!!

Love all these stories - especially of Dora's routine. During the last two years of my late departed Harry's life after he had been given a death sentence of 3 days (take him home and spoil him then bring him in at the weekend to be PTS  ) I first took him upstairs to bed with me. We then dev...

Re: Cat Excessively Drinking - Vet ruled out all but behavio

Max has always had an obsession with water - he has a fountain and sits by it for ages dipping his feet in it as well as drinking gallons. He's always been like this so although he now has kidney problems it wasn't always the case.

Re: cat words

Sweeties (Dreamies) - Alfie definitely knows that word and if we tell Daph to go find mousey she trots off and invariably comes back with him when she finds him. Max only needs to hear the word Tuna and he's there in an instant and bedtime sends Daph straight to the living room door ready to go :-)

Re: Why is my cat peeing and pooping on my couch?

Sounds a bit drastic but have you tried putting the litter tray on the couch when you're not using it and making sure there's no room anywhere else for him to go? if he uses it it might be that he's developed a habit he can't break. Are you able to shut the door and keep him out?

Feeling really bad :-(

Left my 3 babies at the cattery for the first time and feel like I've abandoned them. I picked the best place I could for them - they look out at chickens and horses and have put Max and Alfie in together with Daph in the next cage - she has my dressing gown to sleep on and mousey to play with and t...

Re: Help! What to do with MIL's cat from hell?! :(

Also have to agree that finding a safe place for the remaining weeks seems the best solution. Poor Pita - she is obviously stressed at all the upheaval and your mum's disappearance from her life. It must be bad for your own cats as well with the move and a strange cat in a new place to contend with....

Hi Kirsty This sounds just like the issues we have on a weekend with Max which I've mentioned in previous posts. In the apartment he is totally fine all day and evening until we go to bed when he then starts wandering round crying - the noise gets louder the longer we ignore him. Alfie also is a bit...

Oh dear and I thought it was just us! At home Daphne sleeps with me (we're in separate rooms as OH has sleep apnoea and has a cPap machine) - she is no bother at all during the night. Alfie and Max are downstairs and the cat flap is open for them to wander in and out. Max doesn't go further than the...

Mick that's lovely to read - she's obviously content with her own company and feels safe in or around your home so I'm glad you're not thinking of rehoming her. We have a cat flap in our summerhouse which we originally did for Mr B (the stray who 'lives' with/near us) but Alfie loves it in there and...

I think Jacks might be right - either that or she has found an alternative hiding place outside and perhaps even an alternative food source. With the warm weather she's possibly happier outside but I would be worried about her being gone for so long. My Alfie sometimes disappears for hours - he'll g...

Re: My new baby is potentially allergic to my cats

Congratulations on your new baby! What an awful dilemma to be in and obviously he has to come first. Would it be worth putting your cats in a cattery for a couple of weeks or asking a friend to look after them to see if your baby's symptoms get better when they're not around? If they do then you hav...

Did the vet give her an anti biotic injection? I'm only asking as some years ago one of my cats (also called Molly) had an infection and the injection made her act very strangely - she was even walking backwards in circles. I hope the results come back ok - please let us know.

Nettie I too am so sorry - it leaves such a huge whole in your heart which you think will never be filled.
