Re: My outside cat has blueish dilated pupils; please help!

I don't know anything about eye conditions, but I suggest you observe him and decide whether he can see properly or not. That would be something useful to tell the vet if you have to take him. Good luck.

None of my cats have been keen on beef flavour, preferring the poultry types. I always assumed it was because cow is not a natural prey for a domestic cat...

Re: Air Freshener advice

I make occasional use of Neutradol spray. I'll keep the cats out of the room for quarter of an hour, to let it settle, and I make sure it can't get on their food or water. It's probably less than once a month I feel the need to use it, and at that rate of use, I don't believe it does any harm.

She'd certainly scavenge a dead animal - after all, raw dead meat would be her normal diet in the zoo. I still don't see her killing an adult sheep, but she's going to get the blame.

Re: What are your thought's on..........

There may be reasons for collars, eg a cat which needs a special diet but is allowed to free-roam; the owner may want to put a "please don't feed" tab on a collar, to warn "helpful" people that they are not doing it any favours if they offer it food. There was a time when selecti...

Re: What do do with this naughty boy?

I've not been in this situation myself, but I was trying to think of how to create a safe place for Misty. I wondered about getting a pet crate and fitting it with a microchip cat flap so it would let Misty in, but not Berlioz. Maybe cover the crate with blankets to make it a home-cave. However, the...

I go to the BBC news site:

Yes, it's easy to admire her for managing to stay on the run. But for her safety, and our peace of mind, it will be a relief to know she's back home.

They aren't made by Argos, both the microchip one and the covered bowl are made by Surepet. Re: Microchip Feeder - Anyone used one?

I have two for my cats. They work fine. Some people worry about the cost of batteries, as 4x C cells aren't cheap. I put Duracell in mine, and a set lasts around a year. It's worth noting, for anyone who just has one cat, but still wants to keep the food fresh and protected from flies, there is a sl...

Re: Tooth has fallen out...!

I once had a cat who started losing her teeth when she was 5. Now and again I'd find a fang on the floor. Maybe she swallowed the smaller ones, or maybe I hoovered them up without noticing. Eventually she lost them all except one small incisor, but it never bothered her, and she was happy to eat wet...

Re: Older cat losing weight and skin problems

I'd also want to know if the vet checked for any direct skin infections - mange, or a fungal infection like ringworm. Unlikely since he doesn't go out much, but if an infected cat passed through (or stopped and slept) in his patch, it's not impossible.

Re: Cat Has Fleas

If I have to send my cats to a cattery, just after they have gone away is a good time to spray the carpets, because the stuff will have a week or thereabouts to dry and settle before the cats come back. Mine are not at high risk of fleas; indoor, with access to a garden enclosure which other cats ca...

My understanding is that if it is just into the skin, it may heal, although if a piece has actually been taken out, then maybe not. But if it's down to the cartilage, that won't heal. My older cat Rocky has a small v-shaped nick in one ear, only about 2 millimetres deep. I don't know how he did it -...

Re: Unsuitable to adopt - build outdoor enclosure before approaching rescue centres again?

When I lived in a flat, I kept two cats entirely indoors, and they seemed happy enough. I did manage to arrange netting round a window ledge, so they could sit in the fresh air when they felt like it. And I always grew grass in pots for them, because they liked to nibble that. You can buy various &q...

[Cross-posted with Lilith] You have my sympathy. In Britain we have a very long culture of letting cats roam free, perhaps dating back to the days when they were kept as vermin control rather than pets. That is beginning to change, with more people keeping cats indoors or in an enclosed garden, but ...
