Re: Cat introduction
I have several elderly cats and have introduced them all to the gang over the years. Most important is to make sure that the incoming cat is sociable, and try to get one that's not too much of a live wire as older cats often don't appreciate attempts at boisterous play! The advice here is good: http...

Sorry, I meant a UV/black light torch. Some people have them for checking bank notes or security markers.

I use the Snugglesafe heat pads (heat in the microwave) for the outdoor cats on cold nights. They do hold their heat all night and are very good.

So pleased to hear you have her home safe. It would be a good idea to update the title with 'found', thanks.

Re: Is ringworm often mistaken for a cut?
If you have a UV/black lamp or torch it will show up ringworm as many of the spores fluoresce under it. That looks to me a bit like one of my cats that used to react to flea bites in small scabby areas around the head and neck, but it could easily just be a scrape. Just keep an eye on it.

Wow, it looks like she's got herself a real couple of stunners there = lovely pics!
I agree about not splitting bonded cats too. There are plenty of cats out there that need a home on their own.

Renal diet wet food
When I've had cats with renal issues I've always had a real struggle to get them to eat the prescription diet foods and mostly ended up feeding a mixture of renal dry and senior wet. The most palatable, I've found, tend to be the RC and Hills pouches - the tinned version seems to be a gloopy grey pa...

Must have been tough, it sounds like you did her proud. She was a lucky girl to have you - to be loved and cherished like that for her whole life really counts for something. I hope you can find some comfort in that.

Jan, you probably know this but you can get a Senior version of Felix AGAIL, and the Senior foods are usually better for cats with renal issues. I found some renal foods recently that seemed a bit more palatable - I'll get the info and start a thread.

Re: Does anyone have a Sureflap pet door? (The large one)
Fingers crossed it gets there today. :) A couple of my fosters have been like Kasper. When I first get a new inmate in the outdoor run I leave the big door to their little house open for the first night, so they can see the bed, blankets and heater. Then, when they've found the bed I shut the big do...

Re: Cat foood!
Actually, if you are also feeding dry food it would be easier to cut down on that. Dry food is much more 'calorific' than the wet food, and it often is the dry food that causes the weight gain.

Re: Cat foood!
My lot get Kitekat from parcels of food donated to the charity sometimes, and actually they all seem to like it - there are worse foods out there and it is complete. As has been said, the 4% refers to the named meat and not the total meat content, and if you're only feeding the KiteKat and no additi...

Re: Tips for feeding
To be honest, I think you're just going to have to accept that the cats won't be eating what they should be whilst you're away, and just concentrate on feeding one up and possibly putting the other on a diet when you get back. It's not ideal, but it's only for a couple of weeks and then you can real...

I've had several elderly cats, though none quite as old as your girl, and it's always difficult and heartbreaking to have to try and make those judgments. As you say, you seem to have things under control medically, it's just knowing how she's coping ..... and really you know her best. There will co...

Re: Taking in a stray
As has been said, things may never go back to they way they were with your own cats, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will be unhappy. Cat politics are an ever-changing negotiation, but it actually sounds as though your three are doing pretty well. All of my cats have had to go through th...

Thanks Victoria - equally, it's nice when people make the effort to update after their initial post. I'm sure we've all been there at some point, and it's good to know when there's been a happy outcome.
I also particularly noticed your post as my Merrick is also a delicate, all black 'squeaker'!

Well, half of me is spitting feathers in fury at the 'bleepety bleep bleep' owners who moved and left their cat (there is no excuse, it's a cruel, heartless thing to do), and the other half of me is peeing myself with laughter at Lilith's posts! Re: Cat sniffing a bit
If it helps, all of mine have just been through a phase of 'the sniffles' for a week or so. Some were just a bit snuffly and a couple were sneezing and pretty 'snotty' for a couple of days but it passed quickly and without anyone seeming too off-colour.

I actually can't find one exactly like mine, I've had it years, but looking carefully this one is actually the most like it and would 'fill up' in the same way that mine does.
