Re: How many sofas have your cats ruined?

I will admit that while i haven't lost any sofas, my stairs carpet is a lost cause, for some reason every cat likes the bottom step, some will use the cardboard scratcher as well, but the carpet on the bottom step is always popular. Its already got a couple of patches in where they had scratched hol...

Re: How many sofas have your cats ruined?

I didn't want to say anything as I don't really want to tempt fate, but I've never had a sofa ruined by a cat. This isn't due to any fancy training for the cats, or amazing products to prevent it happening, it is purely due to small living room meaning I can't fit in the big padded sofas. We have an...

Re: How many sofas have your cats ruined?

I will add that when buying a scratching post you need to think sturdy. Many posts are great for kittens, but by the time they get to three or four months old they can pull a lot of smaller posts over if they put their full weight and strength into looking after their claws. If a post doesnt' feel s...

Re: Molly's Next Big Step

Small steps can still reach milestones. I've had a couple lately with Freyja. One of course has to do with Teddy, who has now been with us abut 5 months. There had been a couple of times when he had waved a paw at her when she came close to him, he had been a bit picked on by the unspayed Queens whe...

I'm so sorry to read about the outcome, and can only say that you did your best for him, even if the vets did miss something. Try not to dwell on what happened it will only tear you up inside. Hernie had a long and happy life with you and all he cared about was how much you loved him, and in the end...

Re: Constant hunger/weight loss

I would assume that Glucose levels were checked, constant eating, especially if drinking lots, and weight loss can be a sign of diabetes, but it is easy to pick up with a blood test so i would have doubted that.

Re: Nail trimming tips

Four months old is still pretty young and she is probably still learning how to handle her claws. I would suggest some old throws and that around if she catches her claws in fabrics to protect your good things and leave her to learn how to retract them properly. If she has them out when jumping or w...

Re: Nail trimming tips

I have to agree that most of the time a young cat is more than capable of looking after their own claws as long as a good range of scratchers are available, horizontal, vertical, boards, and posts of differing material to find out what she likes best. However I do believe that it is worth getting he...

Re: Scottish Wildcat

From what I have heard the only true way to know is with genetic testing, domestic cats and wild cats are very close and the number of hybrids only make the matter worse. I believe there may be organisations that will try and identify true wild cats and help with the spaying and neutering of feral d...

Cat are contrary, the only bowl I've ever had that caused a real problem was a large metal one that i bought to put water in. They all refused to drink from it. It wasn't until I replaced it with an old Tupperware container would any of them drink from that spot. I ended up replacing the Tupperware ...

I would suggest your best option is to find any small local rescues where you live and contact them. They may have events that you can take part in, or you can offer your ideas and see if they can be fitted into any of the current events. I know many of the charities around me run jumble sales, on l...

Re: British blue snuffles

Never give a cat human medication unless you have been told to by a vet. There are some common drugs that we can take perfectly safely, that would kill a cat, even if the amount given was comparable to the size difference. Has the vet actually taken any swaps to check for infection. If it is a react...

Re: My kitten meows until I turn on the cartoon

Certainly not something I've heard of before, but I have a feeling it is to do with your reactions. Your kitten wants to be with you, and when you are showing them your cartoons they have your undivided attention. You can't help but enjoy seeing them interested in your work so the kitten knows you a...

It is the hardest decision any pet owner has to make, and it never gets easier. It can be worth making a record of the good days and bad days, so you have a visual reference as to what actually happened, our minds can get cloudy when we thing things aren't going well. We lost our golden oldie, Tiggy...

Last year my vets were refusing to vaccinate before 14 months due to the shortage, and at the start of this year one of my cats went over the 15 months due to having to wait until stocks came in and her not liking to being picked up so difficult to box. She should have started the course again, but ...

That litter tray is brilliant, I use Zooplus, but had never looked at litter trays on there. As for the arthritis I can sympathise, mine isn't bad at the moment, but there are days I can feel it, and I know it is only going to get worse. Hopefully Loki will start to settle in more and truly claim th...

Re: Moving home

I have to agree with Mollycat, if you could keep the tray for him it would be the best option. I used to be the type that thought cats should go out and use the garden, then I had one cat who went out one evening to use the garden, and a firework went off overhead, he panicked and dashed inside then...

Re: Not sure whether I should ask neighbours about their cat

You could also consider putting a bowl of water out on your own property, if the cat is free to roam, and if possible something that could be used as shade in the hot weather, that way if anything was said you could just claim it was for any stray or wildlife that needed the water or shelter in the ...

Re: I Have the Best Cat In The World Because ...

Well adjusted, cuddly cats are easy to love. I love Saturn and Teddy, it is great to have a really cuddle cat again, Tiggy was always happy to have a cuddle, Saturn will have one when he wants one, not necessarily when i want one. Teddy, typical Ragdoll, is happy for a cuddle anytime as well. Cats l...

Because she chose to accept us. Maybe a bit of an odd reason, but every time Freyja comes demanding some fuss it makes me reaslise how happy we are to have her and it is a real boost to my self esteem that she is happy to come to me and not to run away (most of the time) As for my boys, they are jus...

It has been just over 7 weeks since Teddy joined us, and I think we can say we are there. Teddy now has the run of the house day and night (except out bedroom at night, no cat has been allowed in the bedroom at night, and it is one rule we have tried very hard to keep). He and Saturn now enjoy a gam...

Another Wednesday update, which means another week has past and things are still moving forward well. Yesterday we went out f...

Getting him to the vet is always a good option, even if it just puts your mind at ease, any stress in you will make him worse. It is probably just the furball has irritated his stomach a bit, it could be there is also some more he needs to bring up, hence the repeated hacking of bile. If he is eatin...

Also in the UK so i've never faced a Skunk, but i've heard the tales and I'm glad we don't have them. Firstly do not put peroxide anywhere near the eyes. As a contact lens wearer, I know how much it stings if you get it in your eyes. In the old days you used to have to clean the lenses in peroxide a...

I'm sure they will be fine given time and I never expected totally smooth sailing, I'm pleased it has gone as well as it has up to now. Re: Please Help! What foods will make my cat gain weight fast and safely?

It is certainly a case of talk to your vet first and I've no experience with that type of cancer, but the one thing I could thing of that might help is kitten food. It is normally higher in protein than many adult cat foods and the dried food pieces are a lot smaller which might help if he likes dri...
