Re: Another b****y stray

Sounds to me like he's not a stray either, just one of those greedy opportunists who cruise the neighbourhood seeing how many meals they can steal or cadge! Equivalent of a feline pub crawl. Don't give in, and he'll soon learn to go home for his dinner.

Re: Cat has got the wind up!

Several of my cats in the past have run around like mad things when it's windy. It gets them really excited, but doesn't seem to stress them, so I leave them to it! (Not much makes Lily run these days... :-) )

Re: Bailey is spraying indoors

To be honest, like you, I'm not surprised she's still spraying either. There's still too much going on in her life to expect her to calm down right now, and all you can do is keep her environment as calm as possible and weather the storm until some sense of "normality" returns, which for h...

Contrary little monkeys! Just shows that "desperation is the mother of invention". My blind boy Mitz couldn't get the hang of the catflap till they went into boarding kennels, where they had one between the bed area and the run. By the time I came home he was nonchalantly using it like an ...

Re: HELP !!! Fluid build up in Abdomen, then Liver Failure..

So sorry to hear what you're going through at the moment. I have nothing to add, but I completely agree with Jacks and Crewella. Some conditions are really hard to diagnose, even in humans who can describe how they feel, and all the more so in animals who can't communicate this to us. In your positi...

Re: Cat uses placemat as a toilet

I agree, this is an odd one, but most likely to do with territorial behaviour. Does the perpetrator get bullied, or chased off his food? If so, it might be worth feeding him separately for a while, so he at least gets a bit of peace and quiet while he's eating after it's first put down, even if they...

It sounds like you've basically been doing all the right things, you've just rushed the last stages, and it's all been a bit much for them. Go back a few paces and slow it down a bit, and it sounds like you'll get there. Keep us posted, and good luck!

Re: Help**anyone with experience introducing male cat to fem

Hi, you're attributing human responses to their behaviour, and you need to look at it from a cat's viewpoint. You've got a few things going on here. 1. Your boy is still hormonal - it will take a while for them to work their way out of his system. 2. He is also very disoriented, which almost certain...

How sweet! You have a very intelligent cat there - enjoy! I've had a few cats who will bring toys back to me for me to throw again, (even Lily, who is at the opposite end of the IQ scale) but it usually ends up with me doing most of the retrieving :-)

Re: bad eating habits/very big eater

Can you free-feed him, ie leave some food down at all times? I've always done this and never ended up with an overweight cat. If he has weight issues, discuss portion sizes or special diets with the vet, as some foods are more likely to result in weight gain than others.

I agree, I think an animal courier would be the way to go on this one. I wouldn't risk any of my nervous moggies on public transport over such a long journey. It's a lot to ask of them to cope with so many different noises and smells, and there may be litter-type "accidents" along the way ...

Good to hear Boris is still making progress Cathy. Sorry to hear about his shoulder though. If it's your stray friend's kitten, she will look after it, and if she won't let you near her, you may just have to trust in her abilities. Make sure she has plenty of good food and clean water meanwhile if she has just had kittens - she will need all the support she can get. When you say she won't ...

Re: Advice needed - respiratory infection/laryngitis/vomitin

Hi Anna, it's very easy to worry yourself sick about these things but for now trust the vet. It's good that she's eaten a little chicken, so try this again little and often. Keep fresh water down for her and encourage her to drink if you can, even using a small syringe if she really doesn't want to ...

Re: Advice Sought Growing Grass For My Cats

Try to wait till the roots are well established before feeding to the cats or as Kay says, they will just rip it out by the roots. My lot wouldn't eat grass from my hand, they wanted to harvest it themselves! Once a root mat has set, this won't happen (you'll be able to tell by just gently tugging a...

Re: My cat is giving up :(

I agree, just because she was ok three months ago doesn't mean she's ok now. It could be anything that's causing this, and for all you know it could well be treatable. 14 is very young for a cat to fade away, so I strongly suspect there is something else going on. The behaviour you describe is typic...

Do let us know how you get on with the vet visit. Meanwhile, the biting, it sounds like she may have been taken from her mum and siblings to early, who would normally teach a kitten that hard biting isn't allowed in play. In future, stop playing with her with your hands before it gets to this stage,...

Re: My cat is giving up :(

I agree with the others, she needs to be seen by a vet asap. What we humans might interpret as "depression" or a mental response to life circumstances, in cat terms is much more likely to be due to a health issue, which could well be treatable, or at least identified and managed. So off to...

Re: Should we get a playmate for our kitten?

Hi, I can't help wondering if there's another reason she's not feeling playful. Having a leg missing means her posture is inevitably different to a fully balanced quadruped, and may overstress joints, muscles and other soft tissue, both in her legs and in her spine. I wonder whether the reason she's...

Re: How to get a cat to play?

This is a pretty miserable existence for this poor little cat. I suspect at best she's depressed, at worst she's just afraid. She probably hasn't had the chance to learn to play, having so little human contact and competing with five dogs. It will be an uphill struggle getting her to do so on occasi...

Really pleased to hear Boris is doing so well Cathy. I know your dilemma with the renal food. I put a light fleecy blanket over the top of a cat bed ao it makes a tent, and Lily climbs in there when it gets cold. If you put your hand in, its noticeably much warmer in there, so it really works.

Re: How to get a cat to play?

Crikey, if she lives with FIVE small dogs, she is probably a nervous wreck! This isn't a happy place for a cat to live, and for a two year old not to be playing, she's probably on constant alert. It's possible that if she starts darting about and playing the dogs want to join in, which she would fin...
