Re: Unhappy cat

Welcome to the forum and i'm sorry it isn't in better circumstances, everyone here will try and offer help and advise, but I'm afraid there are no easy answers in a situation like yours. Firstly I will give what I think is a bit of an explanation for her behaviour, while not an answer it might help ...

Re: Cat flap issue

One of my cats refused to use the cat flap properly for over a year after I got her. Like you lad she would use it if it was part open but not if it was fully shut, she almost didn't seem to realise that she could push it to start it opening. I won't however recommend what ended up working for her. ...

Re: Letting go

Grief and loss affects us all differently, some are happiest clearing everything out as quickly as possible, others almost make a shrine to the lost one, and no one is wrong with how they react. I freely admit to being a total tech muggle so I don't know if what I am about to suggest is even possibl...

WARNING: Beaphar Flea Spot On Treatment

I've just seen a post on the Cats Protection Facebook page (Wolverhampton branch shared from the Stoke and Newcastle branch) about possible problems with this flea spot on treatment. Nothing concrete just saying that they have been made aware of other Facebook posts saying that this has caused cats ...

Re: Happy Christmas

I've seen both the videos before and variations on the second one for many years. I wasn't sure about the cat wrapping (or the whippet wrapping variant I have seen), but the cat could easily get up and walk away anytime it wanted if it really objected. Like you say it seems a very laid back cat. As ...

Re: Not sure when to tell the wife

I would still suggest that you investigate options for cat proofing the garden, there are quite a few out there. Like you say a 2m fence is nothing to an agile cat but there are adaptions such as rollers that can be fitted along the top that mean the cats can't get purchase at the tip of the fence. ...

Re: Not sure when to tell the wife

I am so sorry to hear what has happened and it is never easy to lose a pet, even worse when you have to tell a partner what has happened. I do feel that you need to tell her as soon as possible, and perhaps make out that it has only just happened. Put his death off by a day and tell her you found po...

I'm sorry to hear about your Uncle and I also want to say thank you for looking after his cats. I would also say check any paperwork he...

Re: Allergic Cat Help

Poor little girl, and poor you having it hanging over you. I can't suggest anything about allergy testing, but I can think of a couple of options that might help. You say Maisy is only 6 years old, how long have you had her, and when did the condition start. It is possible for an allergy to suddenly...

Re: So you want to give a Kitten for Christmas (Guide)

If you seriously want to give your friend a kitten (I would suggest an adult cat if she hasn't had one before), take them to the local charity and let them have a look around and discuss it with the volunteers there, and offer to pay the adoption fee for her. Between yourself and the charity she wou...

But we all know that shoelaces were only put on this earth to entertain kittens. They are definitely going to be a double handful of trouble, and no doubt will be adored for every mischief they get up to.

Re: Litter tray issues

We had to try once, fortunately it was with my old Ragdoll who was very easy going about everything. We were given a tiny pack of non absorbent litter for him to use, a pipette and a sample tube. You put it in a clean tray, let the cat do his business in it, pipette up the liquid from the bottom of ...

Re: Litter tray issues

There are a lot of broad spectrum antibiotics which will normally deal with any bacterial infection. The main difference is whether the bacterium is gram+ or gram-, one is far rarer than the other and there are less antibiotics available to treat it (I can't remember which is rare, but I think it is...

Re: 7 week old kitten peeing outside of litter box

When I was a lot younger, 6 weeks was the normal age to rehome kittens. Now it seems to be closer to 12 weeks, so she is very young to be away from her mother, and still has a lot of learning to do, without her mother to help, you are going to have to make sure that she learns all the correct behavi...

Re: HELP! Kitten coughing and Hacking

Its always a worry when there seems to be something wrong and you can't quite work out what. Unfortunately the vet is the best person to try and diagnose what it might be. I don't know a lot about heart worms, but coughing like that could well just be a hairball that is being stubborn, or just norma...

It could be she will always be chatty, some of mine have been, others have been very good at the silent stare to get what they want, only time will tell in this instance. A couple of things do come to mind however for your new kitten. She obviously came from a large litter and it could be that she l...

Re: Cat Litter.

I like the Catsan clumping litter. It is dusty, most clay based ones are, but I only notice it when pouring the litter out not when the cats are using it and having open trays it is easy to see if there are clouds of dust coming up. Its nicely fine grained, they all seem to like it for digging in an...

Re: Hair Loss / Skin Irritation

One of my Mother's cats used to suffer from skin irritation, however it was only for a few weeks a year. At first it was put down to being a reaction to the booster vaccinations, until she was a little late having the vaccinations and the skin problem had already started, it was then decided that it...

He is going to be a stunner when he is truly fit and healthy again. It's surprising how quickly a stray cat can decide that a warm bed and regular meals more than make up for being a house cat.

Thank you for taking him on and getting him the treatment he needs, particularly the neutering.

I will admit to using a quick spray of Oust when mine have been particularly smelly just before we want to use the room with the litter tray in, never around the cats and never around their food or water, but normally just a quick spray in the air above the litter tray. The best thing for keeping od...

Every cat owner know you don't just need Plans A, B and C when dealing with a cat, you need at least down to Plan Z and and it's probably worth having Alpha, Beta and Gamma worked out as well.
