Re: How often should cats be wormed !!

The 'rule' seems to be 3 monthly if indoor, 1 monthly if outdoor... I have to admit not being terribly conscientous about this rule myself... However if you use a product like Advocat from the vet it covers fleas and all worms except tapeworms, and is applied to the back of the neck - so relatively...

Re: How often should cats be wormed !!

Yeah to be honest this maybe isn't the best advice but I'm not keen on pumping my two full of chemicals routinely so I tend to do it as little as possible. If your cats hunt a lot then it's wise to worm more often but if they don't hunt then it's really not that necessary. Mine don't hunt much and ...

Re: Need some advice please

probably a vet nurse could whip them out in no time, and at small cost I'm surprised the cats haven't pulled them out themselves - the soreness you can sense may be the result of them licking the area too vigourously rather than anything going on below the skin yes I think I may take them to local ...

Re: Need some advice please

I agree, and it might be an idea to ring the rescue and speak to them first. Thanks I am surprised they didn't tell us too, they don't seem to be bothering them too much only when we touch them ,I don't really want to put them in there cat carrier again so soon as the rescue centre isn't that near u...

Re: Do cat really feel the cold

I had a cat that preferd to be out in all weathers. I once watched her lying on top of a fence in a snow storm gradually turning from black to white. Despite several attempts to tempt her in she only came in when she was ready. I have also lived with cats that love the sun but wont go outside for m...

Re: Do cat really feel the cold

When our boys come in wet, they come looking for me to towel them dry. Tommy especially loves the attention. I wouldn't try it with the girls though! yes did try the girls with a towel ,but just ran away instead put a towel in there bed and they laid on it and it took alot of moisure off ,an...

Re: Do cat really feel the cold

I feel sorry for stray cats out in the cold and wet with no option of somewhere warm and dry, but as has been said, their coats are designed to insulate them. Several of mine don't seem to mind getting wet and go out whatever the weather. For some reason my Grumpy Nellie loves to sit out in the rai...

Re: Do cat really feel the cold

I read somewhere that a cat can tolerate temperatures down to -10C. wow i didnt know that in that case i wont worry,i was just worried cos they where so wet ,i think it was a novelty they are only a year old and rescue cats ,i have had them 9 weeks and they are still exploring lots of things and on...

Re: Do cat really feel the cold

No they don't feel it like we do - yes if it's really cold they will find somewhere warm and dry to snuggle up but generally their fur acts as an insulation barrier that keeps the water off the skin and keeps the warmth the body produces close to the skin (if that makes sense). yes thanks makes sen...

Re: Petsitters ???

My mother actually works as a pet sitter sometimes through an agency, and when I was looking to book one earlier this year her advice was to find one where the sitters have been DBS (disclosure and barring service) checked (this replaced the CRB checks), and are also insured. Any reputable sitter w...

Re: my cats still using litter tray

Absolutely agree with everyone else - perfectly normal. We have 4 trays down for 3 cats and all of them will go outside in the garden (secure, so no other cats to advertise themselves to) if they fancy it, and as Jacks says, like her boy, will sometimes seem to have waited to go outside, particular...

Re: Petsitters ???

Personally I'd be more inclined to look at the proper services, like those suggested by meriad. Holidog is just a search engine for finding random people who've registered to pet sit on the site. From doing a quick search on there myself it turned up a list of complete randoms from teenagers who wa...

Re: Petsitters ???

Laura, if you use a reputable pet sitter then these worries will be unfounded! I would personally avoid anything that looked amateurish, which may not be fair, but I'd rather pay more and know that I didn't have to worry if they were turning up or not. Our Aunties meet the cats once before they mak...

Re: Petsitters ???

Laura, we use petsitters all the time. There are several reputable companies, including Animal Aunts which we use. Your vet may also have details of some of the nurses who do it as well. I quite understand your anxieties. When we were new to all this (not that long ago) I was in a panic about exact...

Re: Petsitters ???

I've used a petsitter once, a few years back, and I was very happy with the service - I've been able to get friends to come in since then, which is why I've only done it the once. My gang were all pretty shy and wouldn't have appreciated a stranger trying to pet them, so all I needed was someone to...

Re: Petsitters ???

I'm in the process of taking on a cat sitter as my cat requires twice daily medication and I travel every couple of months. I can't put him in a cattery because he's not up to date with his vaccinations and can't be vaccinated anymore due to a heart condition. He would also never cope with the stre...

you might even find family members or friends up for a free stay in the capital over Christmas - I'd offer like a shot if only I didn't have cats of my own dont have any family members in london i am affraid ,and as they are still abit timid a cattery would of been better where they have outside ru...

Re: Re a Good Cattery

Laura, I can't help with any recommendations for a cattery but do suspect you'll struggle this late in the year to find one that has space over Christmas. A few catteries I've spoken to in the past always give preference to regular customers over this particular period as that's when they're most i...

Re: Bit Worried my rescue cats still seem very nervous

I have eight cats right now and there are that many personalities. I tell non cat people they can't say they hate cats. They just haven't met the cat for them. Seven years ago, I adopted three kittens. One still hides. He comes out when he feels like a love session. Then goes back. I often think he...

Re: Bit Worried my rescue cats still seem very nervous

No real tips Laura but to leave them to do this in their own time and just be yourself around them. Feliway diffusers may help as well or Bach Rescue Remedy drops in their drinking water. One of my rescues Monty hid behind a cupboard for the first few weeks I had him and it took a year before he wa...
