Re: Animal Control Called - Need Advice
Kiwiara, I think a lot of it depends on where you live. As Ruth said, here in the UK cats are classed as free spirits and not a posession which in some ways is great, but in other ways not so much. I doubt very much that animal control would consider seizing your cats, not for soiling in another per...

I know - I had a giggle when I saw it this morning. First thought was typical - I've just placed a huge order (delivered today) and today they're giving away something... well, I think I've got two specials this time round

Re: Going away and leaving your cat.
She'll be fine and happier staying at home with your dad coming in to care for her. if she's allowed to sleep on your bed then leave the bed as it is, ie don't make it up clean for when you get home. Leave some 'dirty' clothing with your scent on it for her to lie on. Make sure curtains are open so ...

Re: Blackie is not himself ....
I'd phone Linda and ask if she knows of anything that may have happened at the cattery that could have unsettled Blackie? I know easier said than done Jan, but try not to fuss about him too much - he could well be picking up on your anxious'ness. Try and behave as normal as you would around him and ...

Re: Cat being bullied/stressed/spraying
My very first question will be... is there anyway you can give them outdoor access? Do you have a garden you can cat proof or would the area be safe enough for them to go out without being confined to garden only. Then possibly on a more obvious note, when she wee's what do you do, how do you react?...

Re: To keep vaccinating my two old cats
Do you need to put them in a cattery? That, and pet insurance are the only two reasons I'd keep vaccinating older cats; because without many catteries won't accept a cat and without many insurances become invalid. I vaccinated my old girl Molly right to the end (she was 21) but that was because I h...

Given it's pricing it is one of the cheaper higher meat content dry foods out there. I can't buy it because of Harry and his suspected cereal / wheat intolerance so I just wouldn't risk it... but before I knew about Harry I used to be tempted because of the cost. Same as you Mark, their reputation p...

Bob Martin - NO NO NO NO NEVER. Re: Scabby cat - flea allergy in multi cat house
Yes, it wouldn't surprise me at all if foxes (and hedgehogs?) Nope, not from the hedgehogs - they're species specific and won't jump from a hog to a cat or other pet ;-) Helen, it is an interesting one. My Harry has a suspected flea allergy and same as you I have never seen a flea in the house, nor...

Re: first time kitten owner - totally blind
Marla, just checking - do kitten collars have a lower snap weight? I always thought a cat should be 2kg before one puts a collar on them because otherwise they'd not be heavy enough to 'snap' the clasp if they get caught on something? Ruth's post is fairly spot on and there's not much I can add. 100...

Re: Making front door more secure
That is a clever idea. My Harry is the only one I worry about and that would do the trick in stopping him... thankfully Ava has never tried to get passed and not ever shown interest either, which is just fine by me. As for signing, greeting people etc - generally the moment the door bell rings the c...

Re: Pet insurance
I once heard someone say that if every pet owner calculated the cost of insurance, and saved that money for emergencies, they would be in pocket. And she was a vet nurse. Admittedly I'm biased and may live to eat my words (though I hope not!) but I've had bad experiences with insurance in general. ...

Re: When to introduce a kitten to a resident cat
Ideally yes.... but then saying that I got my last kitten a week before he was due his 2nd set of injections and it wasn't an issue. And again ideally - depending on where you're getting the kitten from; it shouldn't be up for adoption before 12 weeks of age by which time it hopefully would have had...

Actually, just thinking - if you look through the catflap yourself I(and I mean going down onto the floor to cat flap level), to the outside... what is there? Could it be that he's seeing something that he's not sure of so won't go out that way?

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
have you physically posted him through? Thankfully not too much damage this end.. I got home yesterday and the gas bbq had been blown over and a small metal ladder that was alongside the house had been given a bit of a flying lesson. Lost one ceramic candle holder that was on the outside table, but that seems it

Emma, could you during the day time prop the cat flap open so he doesn't have to push through it; the click will still activate but he hopefully will soon get used to the sound if he doesn't have to linger by it too long?
Just a thought

Re: Bullying Behaviour
I agree with Lilynmitz - if there's no fighting etc then I'd leave them to sort it out. Also, chances are that either one or both are in the beginning stages of feline dementia (quite normal at that age) which would also cause a change in behaviour. As a matter of interest, when were they last seen ...

My Ava is exactly the same - nothing elegant about her at all when she comes barrelling through that flap;MarySkater wrote:she's used to charging through at full gallop, and she'd injure herself and/or break the flap.
