Re: Fat cat - best course of action

Oscar is a fat cat too, he is now 6.4kg!!! In our defence he is a very big cat, long legs...but he is fat, not obese but fat. He never liked the laser pen either, but I’ve just give it another go and he has been running around the house like a kitten. You know how fickle the are. Oscar is an indoor ...

Re: Indoor Cat going Out

I made a cat proof area in my garden, using the existing fence and house wall as two sides, and getting fencing put in for the other two sides, with netting across the top: Cat safe garden.jpg If you can't do something like this, you can at least encourage him to go out the back, and discourage him...

Indoor Cat going Out

Hello Everyone We are moving house in the New Year (whoop, whoop) and in fairness Oscar has played a big part in the house we have bought!! The house has a long front garden & drive and a good size garden at the back with tall hedges (hedgehog paradise, I'm told) with open fields beyond. The onl...

I had similar with Oscar and urinary food...he bloody hated it and I had spent over £70 ! I took it to our local cat charity and our local RSPCA...they were very grateful.

I tried every cleaning and enzyme product going and Oscar still went behind the TV!!! Put a bowl of munchies down on the patch...may look stupid but it does stop them.

Re: Feliway plug ins?

I’ve got Feliways, upstairs and down and they definitely worked in the early days to settle Oscar in...but I am not renewing them this time as I think they are short term thing. Oscar was very stressed and paced around the house and they calmed him.

Re: Wet Food Advice

Plan B...went to Pets at Home and found Purina Gourmet crystal which is a light broth which increases cats fluid intake. I added 20g to his RC meal, let it soak in and his wolfed it down. Job sorted.

I’ve also ordered the Hills Salmon for plan c!

Cheers

Re: Wet Food Advice

I wouldn't want £70 of cat food to go to waste either but the little darlings can be very determined when they decided they don't like something. Check the best before date on the RC normally tinned or pouched cat food has a long shelf life. When you know how long it is good for you can decide if i...

Re: Wet Food Advice

Thanks Ruth, I’ve looked at Hills...I suppose it’s just the fact I have £70 worth of RC in my cupboard and I don’t want to waste. My vet wanted him on entirely RC dry food...but I challenged this.

I will buy Felix tomorrow and attempt to mix.

Whoop whoop...it’s been 3 weeks since he pee’d in the house, happy days. My little furry monster is also much more chilled, even though he had an overnight stay at the vet and 3 days in the cattery...he did not get that stressed. We have even been able to go out of an evening and come back pee free!!...

Wet Food Advice

Hello All Oscar is on his special diet due to some bladder debris which the vet found on his ultrascan. The vet recommended (told) we should feed him Royal Canin Urinary, which I bought from the vet (dry and wet). Luckily for me I found it online for a much better price, which I bought in bulk and I...

Re: Royal canin meat content

The cheaper brand I hinted at does do urinary, £6.99 for 12 rather than £8.99 for RC, brand is Kattovit from zooplus and they do a urinary trial kit. Not sure about urinary, but the renal comes in 3 flavours and you can buy 6 as well as 12, plus tins of pate. She isn't keen on the beaphor though I'...

Re: Royal canin meat content

My kitty has just been put on Royal Canin Urinary and it definitely looks meatier than Whiskas....however I've just looked it up and Whiskas has 8% protein and the Urinary has 7% but the normal RC has 12%. Does not sound like a lot either way. Moisture is at 80% in all of them. Whiskas has 100g and ...

Ah guys I'm so worried about my boy. It's happening again (he's not urinating at all this time! And he's been sick twice and is hiding). What I didn't notice last time was the fact that all this happens when he is treated with Advantage spot on for fleas he hates it being put on and it definitely s...

...and finally. Oscar has had his ultrasound at the vets and there are crystals but no stones, so no operation required. Oscar is now on Royal Canin special food but the vet does not think his condition is serious and should not contribute to his inappropriate peeing...that statement cost me £250.00...

I'm no expert when it comes to kidney ailments, especially modern treatment, but just want to wish you and Oscar all the very best - at least it looks like a physical thing and not a behavioural thing and hopefully means more straightforward treatment. If the cystophan seems to suit him, though, wh...

Yes, they are a glucosamine based supplement. I'm sure vets give ab's so we think they have done something but as obly 2% of cystitis cases are bacterial, I'd rather be given a supplement. Did you replace the diffuser part of the Feliway? It is only good for 3 months I think. Would you believe they only last a month! Re: Peeing again!!!

I don’t want him to stay indoors, in fact we have to decided to take the chance and let him out...he has never been out in his life. The only reason we keep him in, is the rescue centre said I should not let him out as due to the fact he had always lived inside...and would not have any road sense. ...
