Re: Hello
Hi and welcome from me and Tilly as well. Like others, I also lurked for a long time before joining. Haven't regretted finally jumping in! Pongo looks very like tubby Tay from next door, although a bit slimmer. Do white cats have predilection for scoffing all the food around?

Re: Hairball control food.
I am not sure about Iams, as Tilly won't touch it, but most hairball control diets apparently work by easing the passage of the fur through the cats gut. Tilly used to get furballs quite often, about 1 a month on average, so none for 6 weeks may or may not be significant . I tend to rely on grooming...

Re: Rescued Stray Cats - Echoes of former lives
Nothing to do with feeding (Misty would respond to anything that contained food), but my old Misty used to have a hang up about scratching posts. He would never use one, nor would he scratch the furniture or carpets. He always went outside and stropped his claws on my garden shed. He always looked r...

Re: Is there flea treatments for humans?
We can't have fleas which have evolved resistance to Fipronyl round these parts, because it still works here! The active ingredient in Broad line is Fipronyl which is what they think has stopped working in Frontline

If you get Broadline from your vet, it will do both at once.

Re: Second cat or not?
Something else to consider is how many other cats there are around and how old they are. There are quite a few young cats round here, so Tilly is able to get feline company if she wants it and have her own patch to retreat to if she wants.

Re: Second cat or not?
Sorry to hear of your loss. The two times I've been in your position, after observing my surviving cat for a month, I came to the conclusion that they were happier on their own. However, they were both female and I believe male cats may be more tolerant. I am sure others on here with more experience...

Re: Wet food, cereal free
Crewella I've just looked through Tilly's food stocks. Only brands I can find of which all the varieties Tilly has are definitely cereal free are Thrive (Chicken breast, Chicken breast and Liver, Tuna) and Lily's Kitchen (Fish dinner). Sheba Fine flakes with Salmon is also cereal free, but other She...

Re: fussy eater
My Badger never used to be very keen on wet food, would only eat a few mouthfuls and leave the rest to Tilly. Both of them agree with Rufus and would not contemplate eating Iams. Any time I bought a few packets, they ended up at the local cat rescue. Maybe you should try something else like Royal Ca...

Re: Lethargic cat
Hi Mr Frisky and Kris Afraid I can give no more advice than I did further up each of your threads. Looking back in my diary, I see that while Tilly took about 6 days to get back to full health, the worst was over in about 3 days (although it seemed a lot longer), whilst she was in hospital. All the ...

Leaving food out here during the day is not an option, as next doors greedy guts would come in and scoff the lot. They are fat enough already!

My adult cats have usually had one main meal in the evening, with a light breakfast (handful of kibble). Its what they have all seemed to prefer, as they could have had more at breakfast time if they had wanted it.

Re: Killer Cat
Well, after a lot of intensive training by Badger and Tilly, I have become expert at catching mice, shrews and birds by hand. Carry mice and shrews out and hide them in the back garden drystone wall. Birds usually can be put on the roof from the dormer window out of reach of cats. Sadly, those that ...

Re: Missing cat - tale with a happy ending
Oh dear, Lilith, wish I'd thought of that! Anyway Tay has been to the vet and is now on a course of antibiotics and confined to barracks for a week but otherwise seems unharmed. Spent all day being cuddled by his mum. Vet thinks he may have miscalculated a jump and scraped his chin on a wall as he s...

Tilly had a bad bout of Pancreatitis over New Year (there is a thread on it on here somewhere). She was put on a drip and hospitalized at the time. Had Penicillin and Metacam. She has made a full recovery and is back to her usual bouncy self, making life unpleasant for the local mice. On advice rece...

Missing cat - tale with a happy ending
Its been a worrying day. Tubby Tay from next door went missing shortly after 6:30 this morning. As happens every morning, he nipped in to my house to finish off Tilly's breakfast and I shooed him away as usual. But he didn't turn up at his home at 9:00am for his official breakfast - something unhear...

Re: Matted fur
I have frequently had this problem with my long haired Maine Coon Tilly. She is also not keen on being groomed (although she has been getting better with age). Grass and plant seeds seem to be the root cause of most of the tangles, although I have also found the odd slug stuck in her fur (Yuk!). Lit...

Re: The end is nigh.....she has pancreatitus
Kris - I think in your position I would go back to the Vets for advice. So far as i know, the drip is only necessary if, as Tilly was, your girl has dehydrated due to vomiting and not eating. If it was necessary your vets would have done it already. It is frightening how rapidly dehydration sets in....

Re: Men About the House (when workmen and cats coincide...)
Well, all your tales certainly cheered me up after a trying day! reminded me of a long ago incident when I had a man in to fix a leak in the water pipes in the attic. I warned him to watch out for my small black cat Sally and make sure she didn't follow him up the ladder (shows how long ago this was...

Re: The end is nigh.....she has pancreatitus
My Tilly had a bad bout of Pancreatitis over New Year (there is a thread on here somewhere about it). It was very worrying, she was detained in the Vet hospital for 4-5 days, initially on a drip to re-hydrate, and she was on antibiotics and metacam. I thought I was going to loose her. I am glad to s...

Re: Rant about RSPCA
Good Grief! Its worrying enough when our precious cats go missing (as I can still remember from 17 years ago) but to have the RSPCA acting so irresponsibly adds an extra horror. They seem to have forgotten what their initials represent. Dumping a cat back on the street to starve is cruelty. As for t...

Re: Adenocarcinoma
I wish I could give you some reassurance but my one experience of this disease was very bad. My cat Badger was also acting normally (at least normally for him) until shortly before diagnosis but died the day after the operation. At least your girl is still alive. I hope very much she recovers.

Re: How long before cats return? Inspiration please
Hi Emma. As I posted on your other thread, my old Misty was missing for 9 weeks before he was found. It was a poster at the local vets that got him recognized - the people whose house he had taken up residence in went there to inquire what to do about a strange cat and saw his wanted poster on the w...

Re: Lethargic cat
How worrying. Is she anaemic at all (pale gums and tongue)? (Although I expect the vets will have checked for this.) Reason I mention it is that it was similar lethargy which was the only symptom Badger displayed when he had cancer of his spleen and pancreas. Hope it is nothing like that.
