Re: My cat from hell TV program

And yes, a responsible owner will sort out behavioural issues, but they may be responsible and still uninformed. A responsible owner in that case will seek the advice of a trained professional. Even when informed it can be difficult to stand back and assess the situation objectively, for the benefit...

Re: My cat from hell TV program

I don't have animal planet so have no seen many of JGs shows, but any I have seen have been great in terms of his approach and advice to his clients. He's, he is a celebrity cat behaviourist, and yes, the shows are edited for TV and chosen for their bizarreness, but as a student vet nurse I have see...

Re: Tick bites and Lyme disease!

Stop blaming Bobby for your tick bites!!!!!! Ticks do not transfer from one animal to another, they go up on grass stalks in what is termed as "questing" for their next host. The literally climb up and sit on the stalk waiting for you (or Bobby) to wander past, and then latch on. You can b...

Critical cases arriving at the end of the day means someone has to change their evening arrangements of course, but there is alway...

Re: Cost of overnight care.

Eeeeeek! Does the cat need continuous monitoring??? As in, does there need to be someone sitting with the cat at all times??? What is wrong with him/her? Ordinarily, fluid therapy only needs to be monitored every 3 hours or so (but if the cat is critical that can change, obviously). Cats on fluids d...

Stem will have no effect on the pupal stages of fleas, which live in the environment. They can survive in pretty much any conditions for years once there is oxygen. You can use a household spray like indorex, combined with regular vacuuming (at LEAST daily, but as often as you can, and put the bag o...

Check any sheds and outbuildings, and ask neighboir's to do the same. He may well be stuck in a shed or garage nearby. Please do this now, and cover a good area as he could have run in fear of the loud noises. Make up some leaflets to put through letterboxes asking people to check sheds/garages when...

Good on you yet again! When my mother died, her cat Brownie laid on her pillow, refused to move and refused to eat or drink unless I was there. I was literally on the train back to my home across the country when my uncle called to say she was back on the pillow refusing food. I had to get the train...

I am going to look at this from the point of view of the cat's welfare..... I think they have decided where they want to live, as has already been said. Please don't take this personally, it is likely, as you say, down to the fact that they simply like a quieter life with the elderly man. I had a ca...

Re: Most ridiculous new cat food product to date?

It'd certainly be far cheaper to just boil up a chicken breast and feed it with some of the broth, which is something I do for sick or convalescing cats, especially If I am concerned about their hydration levels! This stuff works out far more expensive than human soup ha ha ha! If stuck for time I'd...

Re: How do I convince my friend to get a darn litter box for his cats?

I would stop mentioning letterboxes to him at all. That isn’t really an issue for the cats as they are not confined, once your friend steps in a cat poo at 5 am he will choose to provide more toilet facilities eh? What is a REAL issue is the over breeding...... You need to convince him to neuter ALl...

She was quiet and limping on New Year's Eve so we rushed to vets. Hospitalised on fluids and seemed to improve. Countryside, that should read. And I also hasten to add that I do all new introductions according to best practice! They all start off in the bathroom, in a cage, and get GRADUALLY introduced to the gang. Nice cats first. I have my tried and tested routine. I don't just fling them into the general p...

I have read all the books on cat behaviour and studied as much as I can as a lay person. I have also broken all the rules due to necessity! I have a colony of 29/30 (big Mick just visits!) and used to have 48. People never believe me when I say they don't kill each other! It is all about fulfilling ...

No, it is definitely a territory issue! I have seen MANY females do this and it has nothing to do with a weak bladder! Insecurity or dominance marking probably. many of my newcomer females did it till they felt at home and relaxed. I lost many DVD players to this affliction!!

Well, I actually checked with my lecturer, and this procedure (a core biopsy, which was done on me just as a precaution, I am not at all concerned) DOES NEED a full surgical prep! That entails five wipes with skin disinfectant (can be many more with animals if they are dirty though, but you'd expect...
