Re: Blackie not eating much

Ohhh the bad lad - tell him from me he's naughty - and give him a nice fuss from me, and all the very very best, what a handsome villain he is :D I would give him a nice fuss from you Lilith - if he'd let me  His girlfriend rushed across the lawn this morning looking like she wanted to avoid ...

Re: Blackie not eating much

I understand why the vet thinks its down to stress given Blackie's history. I will wait for all the blood results to come in and then mention the blood in urine issue again. Blackie still seems disorientated from the sedation - he doesn't respond to his name and seems to be very reluctant to have an...

Re: Blackie not eating much

Blackie had a complete health check under sedation this morning - eyes, heart, lungs, ears and teeth and a good feel around his body. When she pressed his abdomen he didn't like it much. A urine sample was taken and unfortunately there is still some blood in it which was disappointing to learn. She ...

Re: Blackie not eating much

Well ... that vet visit was a complete waste of time; After describing Blackie's lack of appetite and drinking more, the vet decided a blood test was in order. However, best laid plans of mice + men (or cat). As soon as Blackie was lifted out of his carrier, he started fighting like the black panthe...

:D The bad lad, scaring you - they do have their ups and downs at this age. Hope he enjoys his beef tomorrow and good luck on Monday x This bad lad seems to have decided that the YuMove supplement isn't to his taste anymore  He won't touch any food with even half a capsule sprinkled on it. So...

Thank you all for your responses. My husband now agrees his father is not capable of looking after the cat. She is 12/13 , tortie, talkative and now needs a new home............rescue centres in an around BR6 are full. Any takers/suggestions? We looked after her once, she was so desperate to get ou...

All this talk of meat is making me hungry! Re: Blackie not eating much

Haven't thought of grilling the chicken - will try that tomorrow if he's still picky. We had fish + chips this evening and gave him some small pieces of fish ... swallowed in a heartbeat! A trick this evening was to crush 2 or 3 Hills urinary stress kibbles in with a small amount of his Felix - (he ...

Blackie not eating much

We've had a couple of episodes of Blackie being very picky about his food in recent weeks. He is sleeping a lot more these days. Even at night, when he used to stay out for hours, he's back by around 8.30 - 9pm. He won't eat the Thrive chicken I put down - only thing I can tempt him with is boiled c...

Re: Food recommendations needed please

Indeed I did. Blackie thinks its the next best thing to the chicken we eat. He was unwell at the end of October - vomiting + completely off his food. So out came the Thrive but he wouldn't touch that either ... that's when I knew he was feeling very unwell and a visit to the vets was needed. Blackie...

Re: Food recommendations needed please

Based on my experience with our cat Blackie who is a Felix in jelly junkie, I can definitely recommend Thrive. Its the only other food that he hasn't 'gone off' I've actually had a tiny taste of it myself - and lived to tell the tale!

Re: Blood in urine

We moved last week... I have Oscar on 2 x Cystophan and 2 x Kylkene. I asked the vet if that was OK and he said as they are both herbal, no harm to keep him on them as long as it takes. Frankly, I would have him on whiskey too, if I thought it would work (I'm having it to calm myself down). I also ...

Re: Blood in urine

Hi Jan it’s an old wives tail but sometimes these adages have some merit - butter on the Paws - they lick it off & this apparently helps them settle. My mum told me to do this when Crystal came to me - she’d had a torrid time - and she never left me. Even when she got out a week after arriving....

Re: Blood in urine

Hello Harry ..Based on my own experience of cranberry juice when I had an infection many years ago, I would prefer to give Blackie some D-Mannose added to his water. ( wouldn't give him the other herbal product I used as not sure its ok for cats. He probably wouldn't take it anyway - it tastes foul).

Re: Blood in urine

At the vet's suggestion last week, I upped his Cystophan to 2 daily. I also went round to have a chat with her yesterday. She advised me to go on giving Blackie 2 tablets for the next 10 days. I asked if I should bring him in again but she thought it better to leave it until the Cystophan course is ...

Blood in urine

While Blackie's urine results were ok, I was taken aback (and upset) to hear the vet tell me that there was some blood in his urine. As he suffered with 2 bouts of FIC back in 2014 (1 from which he was 24 hours from death), her first question was if I knew what might have stressed him and if I'd not...

Re: Vibes for Lucy please

I discussed again with the vet about her suggestion of giving Blackie Metacam for his arthritis and the pros + cons of it. It was agreed that we try it for a month, starting at 4ml and slowly dropping it down to 2ml/day, but if Blackie is sick, to stop it immediately and get in touch with her. Your ...

Re: Vibes for Lucy please

Blackie hasn't been himself for a couple of days - lack of appetite (very, very unusual for him) and with his nervousness, lack of appetite, lack of interaction (more than usual, that is) I'm beginning to think that his arthritis has got worse - probably due to very cold weather - he's a cat who ins...

Re: Vibes for Lucy please

Blackie has been having the SDMA test now for over 18 months or more. He had a bout of vomiting over several days 5 or 6 weeks ago and ended up being hospitalised to find out exactly what was causing it. My research on the internet while waiting for results had him dead and buried and me in the dept...

Re: Blackie's Luxating Patella

Things just got better and better since I last posted. I started Blackie on YuMove about 3 weeks ago and within 4/5 days there was a dramatic improvement in his mobility - we couldn't believe it. Rushing up + down the stairs like a lunatic and skidding along the wooden hall floor - it was as if he w...

Re: Water fountains

The vet recommended 2 tablespoons of warmed water mixed in with his wet food. As we sometimes give him less than a full bowl (trying to stop him becoming overweight) we then just add 1 tablespoon. I reckon in a day he probably gets about 80-100ml of extra water. Never had any problem with him lappin...

Re: Water fountains

Are they really that good? I've never had one but now considering getting one? Is it worth it or just a lot of faff? Little one was taken to the vets yesterday. He had a mild case of cystitis. :( TIA As far as our cat is concerned, it is a lot of 'faff'. We were desperate to get him to drink plenty...

Re: Blackie's Luxating Patella

Blackie saw the Prof yesterday .... though he'd decided the best way of seeing her was from the sanctuary of hiding hunched up under the table at the other end of the room. Seems the Prof thought we'd come in for Blackie to go straight to surgery but I explained we were told the consultation would b...

A good description .... 'not quite wired up the same as normal cats" - perfect description for our Blackie

You could also try Lick-e-Lix ... it worked the once with Blackie when giving him Milbemax - but only once

Re: Blackie's Luxating Patella

Thanks for the further good wishes, alanc + Lilith OH made the point that a cage might be better as we could have Blackie in the same room as us - downstairs + upstairs. In answer to alanc Blackie most definitely is not a well behaved cat, nor a cuddle cat - he hates being picked up for any reason. ...

Re: Blackie's Luxating Patella

That's some comfort that the patella issue is better (however slightly) than the nerve issue. We won't know the exact recuperation time until we meet with the Prof on 6 Sept. She's the expert - and some - judging by her credentials! Dog crates were suggested but when I asked if a room 8 x 9ft would ...
