Pet Insurance

I adopted Mia a few weeks ago and have been given 4 weeks free insurance from PetPlan. She is 2 and a domestic moggy. I looked at their website with the idea of extending this but the prices seem very high: £11.37pm for 12 months Essential cover £15.70pm for Covered4Life Classic £25.17 pm for Covere...

Re: Helping an anxious new cat

Hi Claire - I adopted a 2yo cat last Thursday. I had a cat for 14 years but lost her to cancer. It was daunting bringing home a new cat and had doubts if I had done the right thing. I got all new stuff for the new girl - litter trays, scratching post, bed, toys etc.... and meant just to give her acc...

Re: Adopting a Cat

I know it is tempting, but as I said before, a few weeks is nothing when you think of the years she has to explore, and especially as she is still skittish with noise, it isn't worth the risk. Staying close to her wouldn't necessarily prevent anything happening and as she hasn't known you for very ...

Re: Adopting a Cat

So glad that Mia has settled in so well, but PLEASE be very careful about letting her out. I wouldn’t let her out for at least 2 weeks, unless there was no way of her escaping, in case she went missing. I totally understand how you feel with it being so warm etc, but would definitely use the harness...

Re: Adopting a Cat

Well Mia owns the house now - she has investigated every room and struts about the place, still a bit skittish with noise but she is coping really well - she is running around the house jumping onto everything, she woke me up a few times last night playing with her toys. I got her a cat tree from Pe...

Re: Adopting a Cat

Thanks again for the advice - I went to bed and heard her walking about the house. She woke me up a few times and heard her using the litter tray. I woke up and she was snuggled up beside me and looked at me as if to say 'I was sleeping' - she has eaten this morning and had a poo in the litter tray ...

Re: Adopting a Cat

Aww, you're fine, do try not to worry. Cats do puke for the slightest reason; it will have been nervousness I reckon. I know how it feels, every time a new cat has arrived I've been panic-stricken - have I done the right thing etc. Cat's been dead laid-back. I suppose it's like bringing home a new ...

Re: Adopting a Cat

Well Mia is now officially mine. She cried the whole way home in the car which is not unexpected I suppose. I got her into the house and into the dinning room were she had a good look around. I put out fresh water and some Felix as the adoption centre told me she has been eating Purina One and Felix...

Re: Adopting a Cat

Thanks Guys - she comes with insurance for 4 weeks. My garden is all grass so no bushes to hide under but I have went off the idea of using a harness and will gradually introduce her to the outdoors. I will keep her in the dining room with access to the window so she can have a look outside and grad...

Re: Adopting a Cat

Thanks again - I emailed the centre earlier and they phoned me back to say Mia is ready for collection. I will be bringing her home tomorrow afternoon. I got her a new bed and food bowls and carry case. I will go to B&M bargains and get a few cat toys and scratching post. I have got a few cardbo...

Re: Adopting a Cat

Thanks for your replies. I have decided to adopt Mia and hopefully give her a good start in life even tho she is 2 years. The house has been so quiet without Jet but I would love to give another black cat a loving/caring/quiet place to live and as you said Kay it is freeing up another space - when i...

Adopting a Cat

My black cat Jet passed away just over 7 weeks ago and I have posted on here about my neighbours cat adopting me and it has stayed a few nights. I have decided I think it may be time to get another cat. I went onto the local Cats Protection website in Belfast and found a cute little girl named Mia. ...

Re: Tom Cat Spraying

Booktigger - yes I have spoken to its owner - she is young and comes and goes for a few days and tends to leave the cat outside no matter what the weather. I asked what type of food he eats and told her about Jet and the mountain of food I have and she didnt seem to mind that I am feeding him.

Thanks Booktigger - I think I am already fostering this cat - he is called Hudson. Lilith you just posted as I did - ha ha. As Lilith said he is company for me and someting to focus my attention on. Thanks Lilith - I miss Jet every day and the relationship I have with this cat is very different to the bond I had with Jet - I realise how close we were with her sleeping with me every night and laying on my lap, I would chase Jet around the house and lift and hug her but I would not even attempt t...

Tom Cat Spraying

I had to have my cat put to sleep about 5 weeks back and am not thinking of getting another yet. My next door neighbours cat which is a tom cat a few weeks ago approached me when I was doing some gardening and came into the house and had a walk around. I made the mistake of giving it some of my cats...

Re: Not doing so well

I can understand your pain Ginger - I had to put my cat to sleep 3 weeks ago - she had cancer in her abdomen and developed fluid on her lungs. She had been with me 14 years and the first few days I felt so alone and guilty but the pain does ease. I do miss her every day and I got her ashes in a nice...

Re: One week since my fur baby had to leave.

Hi Bubbamama - I lost my Jet last Friday evening. She had just turned 14 and was diagnosed with cancer in her abdomen about 4 weeks ago. In the final few days she developed fluid on her lungs and it was so painful to watch her trying to get a breath and being in discomfort. I made the decision to ha...

Just to say I made the decision to have Jet put to sleep earlier. When I got home from work I couldn't watch her being in the situation of panting to get a breath and she looked so uncomfortable. I couldn't bear leaving her alone tomorrow and knew she wasn't getting any better. The vet was very unde...

Re: Cannibas Oil and Cats with Cancer

I had Jet at the vet earlier and she got another steriod injection - it looks like she has a few days left before I have to decide to have her put-to-sleep. The breathing is due to a build up of fluid on her lungs. I got her home and she had a walk around the front garden and I lifted her up the sta...

Thanks for the support - I had decided this morning to take her to the vet to be put to sleep as she was not showing any interest in eating and she seemed cold to touch. I took her downstairs to see if she wanted to go out to the toilet but she opted for the litter tray. I put some prawns in front o...

Hope it works - for both of you! She is sleeping on a sleeping bag in the bedroom so I slept o...

Re: Cannibas Oil and Cats with Cancer

Thanks - I got some today from an independant retailer - I put 5 drops on her food and she would not eat it but she did have a few mouthfulls later. The vendor did say there is a slight aroma from the oil so maybe Jet was put of by its odour.

I might even try it myself for my constant back pain.

Cannibas Oil and Cats with Cancer

Re: Cat has been diagnosed with Cancer

I'm surprised they didn't offer something like steroids or a bland diet to help with the diarrhea The vet did mention about the bland diet - chicken and sensitive food and jet had been on steriods before and she got a UTI so the vet give a small dose of steriod mixed with the anti sickness injection.

Cat has been diagnosed with Cancer

Had Jet at the vet yesterday - she will be 14 next week and she had been off her food and drinking more water also she has been eating more grass to make herself sick and a touch of diahorrea. The vomit was mostly bile with cat fur so I assumed it may be fur balls. The vet examined her and found an ...

Re: Is this a good food?

Bobby loved the Sheba beef trays - they have stopped making them! It is getting harder to find Sheba pouches in the old style packaging. I would buy them now and again just for some variety. They are OK nutrition wise. Big thing is my lot will eat them! But buyer beware - I have noticed that...
