Re: hyperactive after anaesthetic
Oh bless her! I hope she's doing better once she's had a good, long snooze. It is terrifying to watch, isn't it!? We had Dylan and Pepsi neutered and spayed on the same day, and while it was no big deal for Dylan to be going a bit mental (think running from one side of the room to the other, skiddin...

Re: How To Tell If Your Kitten Is Brain Damaged
Didn't realise that until we took them to the vet! But yes, 3-4 weeks before the second jab and then they can go out. I'm not complaining. I'm dreading letting them out and personally I feel they're both a little smaller than I would like. She's 2.5kg and he's 2.71kg, so they probably aren't too sma...

Re: hyperactive after anaesthetic
Don't panic. I know exactly what this is because it happened to my kittens when they were neutered/spayed and the Nurse I took them to for their check-up explained it to me. There are two different types of anaesthetic. One of them knocks them out for hours at a time and can make them very drowsy fo...

Re: How To Tell If Your Kitten Is Brain Damaged
Hi Lillith Thank you SO much for your reply! I've tried to speak to a few people about this now and although they all see that something with her doesn't seem quite right, nobody has really come across it before so it's good to know I'm not alone. We seem to specialise in cats with special needs in ...

How To Tell If Your Kitten Is Brain Damaged
We have two kittens. They're brother and sister and they were the only two in the litter. They're six months old. The boy seems absolutely fine, but the girl is a little troubled. She's had bowel problems since before we brought them home. Before we adopted her (aged 3.5 months) she fell in her poo ...

Kitten will not clean her bottom!
Can you teach a kitten to clean themselves!? She has a very temperamental tummy (loads of tests done but looks like she's just sensitive) so we keep her on sensitivity biscuits and cooked chicken, but husband tried her on normal kitten food for a few days and she's had a runny tummy a few times. The...

I have a similar situation in my house and I'm afraid I haven't found the answer here. Having just read the article that has been recommended to you, I can say they're all excellent steps to take (bar one, which I'll get to in a minute), but sometimes these steps just don't work. If you have a parti...

Re: Even The Vet Isn't Sure If She's Ill
Rather stupidly, she's been REALLY good the last couple of days! She's been charging round the house like a normal kitten, playing with everything, leaping all over the furniture with no trouble at all...she even jumped on my back this morning when I was doing some exercises on all fours! I ho...

Re: Even The Vet Isn't Sure If She's Ill
Thanks everyone. It was a very low dose. The only obvious side effect was she had a bit of a runny tummy for a couple of days. But I can understand why the vet prescribed it. It acts as an anti-inflammatory and I guess she was hoping it would perhaps help with her movement if there was a mild injury...

Even The Vet Isn't Sure If She's Ill
We adopted a couple of kittens in May and they're now almost 6 months old. The boy, Dylan, is thriving. He's still pretty small but he's a healthy, hyperactive, normal kitten. The girl, Pepsi, doesn't seem quite so normal. She's gaining weight but she's smaller than her brother. That's not necessari...

Re: Very soft stools
Have you wormed him recently? It can happen when they have worms in the gut. If he isn't needing worming treatment yet then it does sound like something isn't agreeing with him. Try switching him back to his regular food for a couple of days and see if it clears up. If you've wormed him and he doesn...

Hi Jessy I'm so sorry to hear your cat is not well. Unfortunately, I can't really understand from your post what it is you're asking for. Given that, I'm afraid all I can tell you is to love your cat right now. Offer love and affection when they want it, and wait for the results to come back. Your c...

Re: Creating Positive Interactions
Thanks Kay and Jacks. And don't worry, they were spayed and neutered on 23rd May. Aside from the obvious risk of ending up with a new litter, we figured that the lack of spaying and neutering might cause a problem. Shame, really. It would have been so much easier if that had fixed things!!! Will try...

Re: Creating Positive Interactions
Thanks so much. She really doesn't like the boy kitten, although she'll play a little with the girl. She swipes him repeatedly around the face on random occasions! She does it when he intrudes into her 'space' as well but sometimes she'll just go up to him, bat him round the face (no claws) 4 or 5 t...

Creating Positive Interactions
Our kittens are 4 months old. Our cat is 4 years old. The cat has always been a sweet, affectionate, adorable girl, who loves to be picked up and held. She loves to play and headbut me, and she would sit at my desk, rolling all over my work in order to elicit attention. She was very bonded to me. We...

Re: 6 year old female constantly licks her bum
It could also be blocked anal glands. They have glands that sit inside their bottom, on either side, and sometimes they get blocked, which can be very uncomfortable for them. If that's the case then you take them to the vet to have the glands...umm...unblocked. It's not pleasant, I'm afraid, and nee...

Re: What's Causing The Stomach Upsets?!
They'll be four months old on 5th June. I think we may have turned a corner. My husband went out yesterday and bought sensitive stomach biscuits, and I ordered some Gourmet cat food (because it's far higher quality than most cat foods I've seen). We've been giving them chicken or fish in the morning...

What's Causing The Stomach Upsets?!
We adopted two kittens 5 weeks ago. They settled in beautifully and although our older cat isn't a fan of the boy kitten, she plays chase with the girl sometimes. Now, I have to stress that while the older cat isn't taking to them so well (she'll eat near them, be in the same room with them but she'...

Re: A diet for a sensitive stomach
White fish is a good move as well. My last cat (sadly passed away in February) had tummy troubles. He kept pooing puddles of blood. We switched him to the Royal Canin Sensitivity Control bsicuits, just as you have but obviously it was a bit dull for him. We ended up giving him the biscuits for lunch...

Re: Is this normal, a lump under the stitches were cat was spade
This happened when I had my last cat neutered. Scared the hell out of me! I took her to the vet and they checked her over. They said it was just some mild swelling where the stitches were dissolving and it would go away over time. It disappeared in a couple of weeks. However, I would always recommen...

Weird Reactions to Spaying
I've had a LOT of cats in my life so I've seen dozens of them go through neutering and spaying. Each time any of them have been fixed, or even had another kind of operation, they are dopey for a good 24 hours afterwards and very quiet. Yesterday, we had our 4-month-old kittens spayed and neutered. T...

Introducing Kittens to Cat
Hi everyone Looking for some advice here. We have a cat, Gizzy, who is almost 5 years-old and she has always been very happy, loving, sweet, playful, etc. Our oldest cat died at the end of February and after a mourning period we decided to get two kittens so that Gizzy wouldn't feel too alone. The k...
