Re: Incredible heatwave Australia

My aunt is on The Gold Coast. She said it will be 38 there today (she is a bit inland) She is keeping her animals inside, but having to take antihistamines -she is one of those people that loves her 'furkids' (as she calls them  ) but is allergic. I'm not sure if animals acclimatise, but rememb...

I just this minute had to log in again. I know I ticked 'remember me' (as I have done previously)

So sad - my cousin died last week, leaving 2 cats behind

We weren't very close, although were close 'friends' on Facebook for the last couple of years and had talked about meeting up again. The slightly worrying thing is that she had 2 cats. I asked another cousin she is very close with (they lived 5 minutes walk from each other) if she knew and all she s...

Several times over the last week (including a few minutes ago) I have had to lo in, despite clicking 'remember me' or whatever it says. I wondered if it was me, but since it has happened about 6 times...

Re: Big tins of Supermeat getting harder to find?

That's great :)

For the record - I had assumed Morrisons and Sainsbury's got theirs from the same supplier. I have been feeding the birds Sainsbury's for the last couple of weeks as it is easier to get to for me - but I found a tin of the Morrisons one in the cupboard and it is definitely more moist

Re: Big tins of Supermeat getting harder to find?

I remember the smell of tinned food in the 60s as well. I think it was Kit-e-Kat and it didn't come in a particular flavour, it was a kind of slop, but cats lapped it up

Re: Does anyone have a Sureflap pet door? (The large one)

So basically, for us, the microchip flap was a wast of money!

I should have just bought a large cat flap - oh well.

Although I suppose I could try to reactivate the chip reader in it, but will wait a while as I don't want any clicking to put her off using it.

Re: Does anyone have a Sureflap pet door? (The large one)

At long last, Ingrid has finally mastered using the flap to come in. I first noticed about a week ago. I was sure I saw her outside and then was surprised to see her in the house. I wondered if she had tailgated Dom to get in, so wanted to be sure, but she had the hang of it. A few nights ago, sheto...

Re: Big tins of Supermeat getting harder to find?

It is just a supermeat really. It is quite dry as Ria says. It reminds me of the cat food my mum used to buy when I was small. They cut it off a big slab. It looked like supermeat but had the odd bristle andvein in it  - our cat loved it though :) (I can remember the smell nearly 50 years o...

Re: Big tins of Supermeat getting harder to find?

I had a look on Petexpress, but they are charging over £20 for 24 cans. I suppose they are heavy, but that is twice as much as I am paying in Sainsbury's or Morrisons and Whiskas contains cereals (never used to) The other thing is, since they changed the recipe about 5 years ago, it sticks to the ca...

Re: Big tins of Supermeat getting harder to find?

Another thing I realised is the boxes of pouches Morrisons sell under the Pascoes brand are the same as The Co-op/Sainsbury's/Tesco/Asda own brand pouches - but much cheaper. Only £2 a box and cereal free too.

Re: Big tins of Supermeat getting harder to find?

The medium sized one I went to in Herne Bay yesterday is a disgrace. I used to go there once in a while an it was OK, but yesterday there were so many empty shelves. It was really untidy - probably the worst supermarket I can remember going into. Their big store in Canterbury is lovely. I LOVE the m...

Re: Big tins of Supermeat getting harder to find?

I went to Morrisons yesterday (We don't have a local one - the nearest ones are 5 miles away in Herne Bay and Canterbury) they have big tins of supermeat still. They call it pate - probably why it didn't come up when I searched online. 6 packs £2.50, 12 packs £4.50

Re: Sub Q

I checked mine and they say use by March 2015, so probably not much good by now. Shame as there must be about 100 left - I had totally forgotten about them.

I see a couple online pharmacies sell them for around £19 for 120 - oddly, Lloyds pharmacy say a prescription is required.

New - Surepet microchip reader

Surepet are now selling a microchip reader. It also works as a thermometer with biotherm chips (I think ours are) Must be about the cheapest on the market @ £44.99 and good for taking the temperature of cats if they have the right chip. Other Surepet products are much cheaper to buy from 3rd-party s...

Re: Sub Q

I also tried Alu-Cap, although never heard of it being prescribed in the UK. It is licensed for use (in humans) as an antacid, so may help there with some CKD cats. I found out about it on a forum for Americans. I bought mine over the counter in Boots (no prescription). I just asked the pharmacist a...

Re: Sub Q

When I did the sub-q, it was just under the skin in the fatty area. I didn't get to do it many times, as Willow went downhill quite fast. She was a tiny cat and I don't think she had the reserves in her. My newest vet is a cat specialist. She is a firm believer in feeding sick cats what they like (w...

Re: Catching claws /retraction problem?

I know you have to be really careful cutting cats claws as there are nerves and blood vessels in them. Some older cats claws can get quite horny and thick. when the claws are trimmed, they need the outer sheath to come off too - it is a bit of a knack. I would at least get a vet or more likely, a ve...

Re: Sub Q

As Jane said, I do have a bit of experience doing SubQs, but not the proper way with a bag of fluid with electrolyte salts. I just used plain water with a syringe and injected 50ml of water under Willow's skin at a time (the vet showed me how to do it). The best way to rehydrate if needed, is at the...

I won a prize draw with Petplan - but Sureflap sent the wrong prize

A while back, I entered a prize draw for Petplan customers on their website fora Surefeed microchip pet feeder. I got a phone call on Tuesday to say I had won. It was sent direct from Sureflap, but they sent me the wrong one. They sent the basic enclosed feeder that opens for any cat that goes near ...

Re: Gift tin with 5 packs of Dreamies inside. £4 in Tesco

I saw another gift pack in Sainsbury's last week. I got excited (sad I know) as it had 6 packs (I think) inside and was only £3 - that was until I realised that they were only 1/2-sized packs! I wish I knew what they put in them. On the face of it, we are paying through the nose for what appears to ...

Hopefully she had calmed down by the time you got back. I found this old video from about 7 years ago. I was trying to record Alice howling, but she stopped as soon as she 'heard' me coming.I think she was totally deaf, but must have felt vibrations. http://s305.photobucket.com/user/MarkB_014/media/...

Alice used to do that. No idea why. I seemed to have a long run of cats with health issues. I suppose it is better that they end up with proper cat people who will try to deal with, or accept the issues/quirks.

I think my cats eat too many Dreamies. We are on the last pack and only two of them eat treats - 80% of those are eaten by Kasper. Long gone is that skinny kitten who showed up 18 months ago ;) https://goo.gl/photos/yrP7XAq4H7KW2yrs7

Re: Big tins of Supermeat getting harder to find?

Did you see Oddcat's post below Alice? - apparently it is the same thing. - I am going to buy some in Sainsbury's for now - they still sell own brand supermeat for £2.35 for 6 cans - the beauty is, it is cereal free and doesn't stick to the can. I think it might be the only supermarket still selling...
