[quote="Tina"]yes a new cat can be a plaster but it can also be a blessing in disguise. I bet hed soon say I like it its cute you cant help it personality shines through. maybe one day. I had to smile at that Tina. :) My hubby is a hard working, wonderfully kind man BUT a typically dour Sc...

Re: Night time terrors

I thought I would share my feelings with all you lovely, supportive people. You were wonderful when I was in the depths of despair, uplifting, comforting and understanding. Well, surprisingly, our beloved Gandhi (the Velcro kid) is thriving as an only cat, but he is getting on in years so perhaps he...

Re: diaorrhea in fur

I can sympathise with Miuccia, I get nervous when visiting the Vet and it's not me he's examining! Although I hasten to add, I have yet to mess up the bottom of my carrier! Thank goodness for Tena Lady. :) My Gandhi has megacolon. I was told by original Vet on diagnosis, that after 'washout' he woul...

Re: How to Handle the loss please?

I know what you mean Shaz, it's a lovely feeling preparing for a new cat. I do miss that. I think my husband is right although it pains me to say it. I am 68 and he is 69 and at this stage in life, we are grieving not just for the loss of beloved Cody and Armand, but other beings who have brought us...

Re: sores skin rash? HELP

Oh my heart aches for the poor wee thing. When we rescued my little black cat Armand, he had a massive flea infestation, scratched sore 24/7 but one dose of prescribed flea treatment resolved. His wee body was so sore and I mention this because the Vet said, just as in human head lice infestation, e...

Re: diaorrhea in fur

That's so funny Lilith, you should have said to hubby 'says here I have to try it out on humans first, get your shirt off!'.. or maybe not :). I have used olive oil on rescue cats with dandruff at base of spine, just a little on forefinger, as if I am gently saying hello, and also, as in the case of...

Re: diaorrhea in fur

P.S. Although baby wipes can be unperfumed and are excellent for getting 'cat stains' out of carpets, they still have chemicals in them, can be a bit harsh on cats skin. I wouldn't use them.. they make my nether regions a bit sore!

Re: diaorrhea in fur

Hi Randall, my big grey cat suffers from bowel problems and sometimes has 'dirty bum syndrome', occasionally too gross for him to clean himself. Over the years, with him and my other cats, I have found the most effective and least distressing way to clean their fur is to take a large, very soft, men...

Re: How to Handle the loss please?

All cats are different Shaz aren't they? Just like people, we love them for their different personalities. My Gandhi is a BIG sook, loves his cuddles. I call him the Velcro Kid, I look down and he's leaning against my leg as if he is stuck there, sleeps on my hubby's pillow, resting his cheek on his...

Re: How to Handle the loss please?

Hi Tina and Sharon, just popped on to see how you are. I laughed reading about 'the fridge raiding'. My Gandhi is a big muscular moggie with a large portion of Russian Blue thrown in, he can open the fridge, been known to drag a blueberry pie across the kitchen floor, loves pastry, scones, buttercre...

Oh Sue, I'm so dreadfully sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Kafka. I marvel at how these little creatures can embed themselves in our hearts so quickly. I have a small 'wild bird sanctuary' on my very large allotment, adore the different birds, including the two Magpies squabbling with ea...

Re: Any advice as to when I should have her pts?

Oh Kris, what an awful dilemma. I'm sorry I don't have the 'answer' to your heart-breaking problem, but can only tell you about 8yr old Cody and pray it helps. As you are aware, she became very ill from renal disease very rapidly, even after re-hydration, which raised our hopes but only worked for 2...

What a lovely post, thank you Kris. Yes, I do know what you mean about relapses. Re: The hurt is unbearable

I don't think that's morbid at all Wanda, the closeness to your beloved pet's ashes comforts you and who knows how any of us will feel another day? I once watched a programme in which a young woman had the ashes of all her deceased pets over the years, sewn into little pillows, which she kept on the...

Thank you Crewella, I am feeling better now, sleeping, still get 'the churns' but not as bad. I had an unexpected weep when I was telling Shaz about the cremations. Hi Shaz, I can understand the dilemma you and your hubby find yourselves in with Miley's ashes, your concerns are perfectly valid. Armand and Cody hated being alone and so (seems silly, I know) we asked for a ' joint cremation' with other pets, although each time wrapped in their favourite individua...

'It's so unfair.. I just want my baby back'. I feel for you. Even now I wake and rage against the injustice of it all, I long for my pets to return. Hi Shaz, I read your post with a pain in my heart for you. The pain is i...

Thank you Vivian, I tried a short course of Diazepam but I still woke up 4hrs later, so knowing this is 'normal' has helped me. Thank you Sue. If it happens tonight, I will try that. I did think about getting another cat, but at 68 (me) and 70 (hubby) it's not really feasible. Gandhi is a big cat with a big personality. Night time terrors

Some weeks ago I posted on this forum about the unexpected deaths of my beloved cats, Cody and Armand who sadly died within a month of each other. I was overwhelmed with grief, sank into depression and had to seek help from my GP. She gave me a short course of sleeping tablets which helped me fall a...
