Re: Flat food dishes

That makes it even easier to spread the food all over the surrounding area, and my two already manage to drag/spread it over a wide area from a dish with sides!

Greenkitty - if you look back to the thread 'Second foster home found' you'll find that Helen posted a photo of Baxter there, last Tuesday.

Re: Cheap LED urine finder torch

My torch has arrived, from China as expected. It's VERY flimsy, but was well packed to withstand its long journey. I've not tested it yet to try to locate any possible spraying - will try when it's a bit darker.
I can't think that the 99p ones can be any flimsier than this one at £2.59.

Re: Cheap LED urine finder torch

Just got an email to say that the torch I ordered has been despatched, and is due to arrive between the 16th of Sept and the 6th of October :!: :!: - goodness knows where it's coming from if it might take so long! I've had things sent from Hong Kong which have arrived in just a few days.

Thanks Mark - I'll find out in time, of course. Delivery is due in 10 days, or more, so it'll be a little while before I can try it out.

Hi Mark
I've just ordered this item from Amazon, after reading your post, thanks. I'd not heard of such things before. Do you know if the urine has to be fresh to be detected by these devices? :?:

Mark -You've not met my two Ragdolls, - when I put their carriers in the hall they walk into them of their own accord, every time! :D :D After having major struggles with previous cats I couldn't believe it the first time I saw it. Even after being taken to be cared for elsewhere when I was in hospi...

Sooty 123 I can imagine how difficult, and stressful this must be for you, but never having had a deaf cat I've no personal experience. Well done for taking him on. What's his name, by the way? While waiting for further replies you could try these links..... http://www.catchat.org/meowing.html"...

Re: Poor Dave

Would it be possible to take Dave to your home now, where you'd be with him 4 days a week, and have someone pop in to feed, play and attend to his litter tray on the days you're away at your niece's? That would relieve the stress for Loie and Banshee. It's not ideal for Dave when he'd be new to your...

Re: Chaotic Kitten

Andrea's advice is very good. When I got my first kitten she was very much like yours, sleeping in short bursts, then wanting to play at all hours. I thought I'd never get a good night's sleep again! It was hard to ignore her during the night when she tried to wake me, to play -licking my face, ears...

Re: How high is your cat flap?

Hi Jodie
I've just measured mine and it's exactly 11.5" to the top on the inside, a bit more on the outside. It's been used for over 20 years by cats of various sizes without problem, so I don't think you need worry, and it's said that ...Where there's a will, there's a way!

Re: They can spot a flea treatment a mile off!

Hi Julie I've had good results, and no problems, with Advantage when one of mine had some fleas. The cheapest I found was from Medicanimal, but at the moment they only seem to have the size for small cats (up to 4kg) presumably the bigger size will soon be back in stock. I also used Indorex (bought ...

Re: Thermometer for cats?

Hi, I don't have any advice to offer you - having never attempted to take a cat's temperature, but I've sometimes wondered why vets take it in the way they do. Nowadays doctors/nurses use ear thermometers which only need a touch to take our temperature - is this not possible with cats? It would be s...

Re: Temporary scratching ideas for big cat

I'd suggest a cat tree - something like this..... http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/scratching_posts/medium/medium_cat_tree_height_160_cm/432289" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I've a similar one which my two, and previous cats, have loved - for playing, scratching, dozing,...

Re: What breed is the cat in the picture, please

Hi Vlad Yes, there are lots of Ragdolls in the UK. Mine came from a local pet rescue. They're expensive to buy as kittens, but you may be willing to give a home to one, or better still two, from a rescue organisation such as this one ....... http://www.ragdoll-rescue.co.uk/" onclick="windo...

Looks to be a Ragdoll to me - very similar to the one in my avatar, Tilly, and she's a pedigree Ragdoll - a very friendly, docile, easy going breed and highly recommended!

Re: Need advice on cats scratching carpet!

You could try double-sided sticky tape - a big roll from the DIY store is quite cheap, and cats usually hate the sticky feel of it under their paws. It's colourless, so doesn't show. I've found it very successful in areas where one of mine liked to claw the carpet. It can also be used on sofas, etc ...

Re: Sun cream

I'm not sure about the safety of childrens sun cream when used on bigger areas. I was advised to use it by my vet for my white cat's ears and nose, which are obviously the least furry and most vulnerable areas. Your vet could probably advise about it if you can't get the Pet Screen.

Re: Sun cream

When I had an all white cat I used a high factor childrens sun cream on his ears and nose (tho' he licked it off his nose) - he loved to lie in the sun in the garden and he never had a problem with sun damage. A word of warning - one year I bought a bottle of childrens sun cream for him, but when I ...

Re: Any Cat Lovers In Wirral Merseyside?

I don't live near enough to help, but I think I'd try putting a notice up in your vets waiting room, if allowed, and ask them if they know of someone who may be willing to help. I'd also suggest contacting local animal charities to see if one of their volunteers would help, in return for a donation ...

Re: Kitten tipping over water bowl.

I don't know why she does it - possibly just being a boisterous kitten, but I'd suggest that you put her water in a bigger bowl/small bucket which is too heavy to be easily knocked over - obviously not too tall for her to drink from it. Alternatively you could go for a water fountain such as the Cat...
