Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

Oh well, at least it's been useful for something. We had cut out wheat and fish from Millie's diet, but it actually turns out she's fine with both of those. Sod's law, I think it's called! I hope Trigger continues to be, er, yellow poo free!

Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

No, it's the Josera Sensicat. The other one has potato starch in it, which is one of the things Millie is allergic to.

Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

Thanks for the suggestions. The Grau looks like an option. So many dried foods contain either yeast or potato flakes/puree/protein. Have found one - Josera - on Zooplus that doesn't contain any of her allergens, and fortunately so far she likes it. Phew.

Re: Cat asthma

I am sorry to hear this. One of my cats had feline asthma. Once we got it under control, he was fine. We had him on an inhaler twice a day - Flixotide - and occasionally salbutamol to open his airways if he got a bit wheezy. The advantage of an inhaler over tablet steroids is that the drugs go strai...

Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

She's more likely to have eaten a fuchsia flower that seem to hold endless fascination for her. We don't have any grass in our backyard, and she never goes out of it. She's scratching again this evening, and I've had a good rootle around everywhere trying to think what it might be (and hoping it's n...

Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

Me too. She is generally a much happier cat. She has been tearing up and down the stairs, in and out of the back door, and playing with a sheet of newspaper (now several smaller sheets of newspaper), none of which she has done for a couple of months, so I'm assuming she is feeling better in herself.

Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

And always possible she has found something in the garden to eat. She is a bit like a toddler and everything she finds has to go in her mouth, so I have to go and clear up any fallen flower heads before I let her out in the mornings.

Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

No fleas that I'm aware of, and I don't know if she has a flea allergy. When she came to us last year the charity had put Efipro on her neck that came out in a huge sore, but I don't know if she had had fleas before that. She was always an indoor cat until she came here. Now she potters in and out o...

Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

I may have spoken a bit too soon. She was scratching for England last night, didn't want her breakfast this morning, and then threw up copiously on the kitchen floor. She hasn't had any food with her list of allergens in for at least 10 days, so there must be something else that's upsetting her as w...

Re: Reaction to Frontline?

Presumably you've 'frontlined' him before. Has he ever reacted in the same way? TBH it sounds more like an infection or something to me rather than a reaction to the Frontline, but I might be wrong. A couple of days of not eating isn't good, but any longer than that and I'd be at the vet (and I prob...

Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

Thanks so much, Meriad. You got far more information than I did! Better to know what's in these things. I've never had to go into foodstuffs in such detail before either. Fred was allergic/sensitive to wheat, so after he was diagnosed with feline asthma we fed him grain-free food, but that was a bre...

Meriad - if you haven't already, please don't worry about ringing Grau. I sent an email in English yesterday and they have got back to me saying the paste contains none of those ingredients. Thank you for offering.

Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

I must have missed the taurine supplement, and you're right, that probably is all I'd need to give her. I am reasonably squeamish, as in I can't handle offal! Nor can I eat it. So I'm not sure a raw diet is very practical. Plus I am away for quite large chunks of time and sometimes she has a catsitt...

Ooh, that would be helpful. I just need to know if the supplement that Kay provided the link for above contains yeast, soya, peas, oats or potatoes (or derivatives of). Unlikely to contain lamb. Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

Did German A level 30mumble years ago, but haven't spoken it since, so I think we can safely say it's non-existent!!! Can do French or Spanish though! It's not just the yeast - it could be something like pea puree or potato starch. I've found both of those in several foods since I've been paying mor...

Re: Catfood with no cereals, potatoes, soya...

Thanks all. We've tried her on the Miamor before and it's unfortunately not to her liking (did I mention her middle name is Fussy?). I'm also slightly concerned with the Grau paste because it says it contains 'vegetable by-products' and without knowing what they are, I'd be reluctant to give it to h...

lamb, yeast or peas. You wouldn't think it was that difficult, would you! So far I have had to discard James Wellbeloved, Arden Grange, Orijen, Acana, Bozita... Re: Away for 4 weeks..

We use a website called trustedhousesitters.co.uk, and have found several house/cat sitters through that to be trustworthy and Millie-friendly. I also think four weeks is too long to leave her on her own, and if I'm honest, I would never even contemplate only having someone go in to see my cat every...

Yay. Success. Nature's Menu. Phew. She has suddenly taken against Lily's Kitchen and HiLife, but Nature's Menu is a hit, plus she quite likes Hills Prescription i/d, so with that and the chicken/rice mixture, I hope we'll be OK. Fingers crossed. I also have a selection coming from Zooplus, so hopefu...

Re: Millie update...

James Wellbeloved, believe it or not, contains potato flakes, I have discovered by reading the packet. I've been to a pet shop in Islington today and picked up about half a dozen pos...

Millie update...

Sooooo. After two days at the vets being rehydrated after she refused to eat, Millie came home, still refused to eat for three days. So back to the vet, had a steroid shot and an appetite stimulant tablet (not sure what it was). That was a week ago. She is still eating, but obviously the steroid and...

I found the Pets at Home feeding guidelines too, Mark. I think you (not you, Mark!!), need to be feeding her substantially more than you are, but do please look at giving her wet food as well.

Re: Millie and her digestive system again

Thanks peeps. Latest news is that they now don't think it's megacolon. Aaaaaaargh. Nothing showed up on the scan except for lots of gas in her gut, so the vet now thinks it could be allergy related, which I have to say was my first thought back in about September last year. So, thank gawd for insura...

Re: Millie and her digestive system again

Have just left her at the vet. She is a bit dehydrated, so they have put her on IV fluids prior to doing an ultrasound scan. This vet is thinking megacolon, so I may be picking your brains, Mark. However, it could be anything at this stage, so we'll have to wait and see. She hasn't really eaten anyt...

Re: Millie and her digestive system again

Actually she's fine. No she's not drinking any more, and apart from putting her off eating, she seems absolutely fine within herself. That's the mystery part. Anyway, back from the vet. He has given her an anti-emetic to see if that helps, and is arranging for her to go and have an ultrasound and mo...

Re: Millie and her digestive system again

Dark vomit was last October. Clear liquid vomit now! We are, of course, taking her to the vet tomorrow. Unfortunately our lovely vet left last week, and who knows what the new one will be like. We are actually thinking seriously about changing practice, although this one is incredibly convenient for...
