Re: 3 year old peeing in house - tried everything!
Thank you, everyone. Unfortunately we cannot let Rosie outside - too much traffic, etc. As far as I know there aren't any cats visiting in our neighborhood. I've tried adding litter boxes and different litters. No changes. Today I bought different kind of foods to see if we can "slip" the...

Re: 3 year old peeing in house - tried everything!
Hi and welcome. It’s a real pain when this happens, when I fostered, one cat was the same. However, once a home was found and he could go out he was fine. So the first thing that comes to mind is can Rosie go out, and if not is she wanting to? Similarly if she can go out and there is something going...

Re: Clumsy cat
Hi and welcome. Sometimes my cats have fallen off the back of the sofa if they’ve been dropping to sleep, or accidentally done things like that if they haven’t been looking what they’ve been doing. However if you think his head was tender - do you mean he flinches when you touch it? I would just che...

Re: Introducing New kitten to old cat.
Hi and welcome, It sounds as if all is going ok between the two. The hissing from your kitten is probably just a little bit of brovado going on towards her bigger pal, and her just telling him to back off a bit? It all sounds normal anyway and I wouldn’t worry so long as they’re not proper fighting....

Re: Cystophan Dosage
I’m sure that someone once told me that rain water is very good for cystitis. It’s a couple of years ago now, but their cats were suffering with it a lot and were trying their best to get some info and I’m sure they said that switching to plain rain water had helped. I don’t know whether it was that...

Re: Would like to add another cat to our household
I agree with Kay, but would like to add that, if your cat doesn’t like your son, and is obviously used to being the only cat in the house, at 13 he may not take to another kitten or cat; on top of the baby this could stress him - and you clearly have your hands full to begin with. Hi Vicky, welcome...

Re: Outdoor cat needs to stay indoors
Hi and welcome Jon. If your manager is adamant that your cat has to stay indoors and your cat is stressed then it would definitely be better to find her a home where she has safe outdoor access. It is good that you’re thinking of her interests above your own and are willing to find her the right hom...

yes i have thought about doing that. the last litter she had was about 10 months ago. Hi and welcome :) I hope all goes well. You’ve probably gathered Cat Chat is primarily a rescue and rehoming site, (i.e. assisting rescues listing their cats for homing) and it’s good to hear that you are now cons...

Re: Getting Meds into Feral-type cat
Hi and welcome. It’s great that you’re looking out for this cat. I am unsure what you mean about the medication though - the Amitriptyline, I presume you mean to take temporarily not permanently? I wouldn’t advise the latter.

Re: Help please - hyperthyroid cat, vidalta and now early stage renal failure
Hi, I’ve had a few elderly hyperthyroid cats now. My first two cats when they got older (myself too at the time!) we were all on Carbimazole, only my hubby wasn’t! I since had two other cats who were hyperthyroid and they did well on Carbimazole, and it worked for me too. One of them had high blood ...

Re: Cat milk?
I’ve bought cat milk for mine in the past, usually the elderly cats who have been skinny to help weight gain. It was also useful for one of my oldies (in her 20’s) who couldn’t have another dental and had to take antibiotics occasionally, so I broke the capsule and added it. I have found that some l...

Re: New food from vet - portion advice
I agree, I’d split it into 3. My lot have always snacked all day and it works fine. If your cat needs to be rationed then I’d split it more, then at least she’s got something to look forward to more often. Also I’ve found some cats get a lot of acid (like we can) if they go too long without food and...

Re: Finally had Kala spayed yesterday, we'll see how she recovers now
Hi, I agree with others and wouldn’t necessarily expect her to be herself yet, sometimes they recover quickly, sometimes not. I wouldn’t force her to eat either as she may have felt a bit nauseas after the anaesthetic, just as we sometimes do. If she’s no better tomorrow then I’d give the vets a rin...

Re: How Often Do You Wash Litter Trays?
I have one cat and she uses the litter tray usually about once or twice a day. I think she goes outside as well. I empty it every day if she’s been, and clean it thoroughly once a fortnight. We used to use Thomas cat litter, then changed to Pets at Home because it was similar but cheaper. The troubl...

Re: New Cat Stalking the other Cats
I agree with what lilynmitz has said. It’s great all you are doing trying to incorporate him into your gang, but if it doesn’t work out your lot have to come first. We had a cat come to us from a home nearby, kept indoors with lots of other cats, and long story short we ended up taking her in - us h...

Hi and welcome. Have you tried Cats Protection? They’re really good usually. I’ve borrowed traps a few times from them, although had to wait occasionally for a week or two until one came in if the loan one was out. If you don’t have a CP local to you then here’s a list of rescues (It’s in their best...

It can be very difficult making decisions about our pets and I couldn’t make one about yours, but I do know that if it were me, I would try to do what I could if there was a chance to help my cat. Re: Possible oral squamous cell carcinoma
Hi, so glad that Nemo is eating well now, I bet his mouth feels better already. One elderly cat I adopted had to have all his teeth removed due to his mouth being like raw liver when he came to me, and all treatments to help his gums failed. He was so much better without his teeth and despite my res...

Re: Cat not eating much.
Hi and welcome. If it’s just the wet or dry food he’s gone off, then you could say he’s gone off the type of food for some reason. If it’s both it sounds like he’s lost his appetite, could be teeth etc. However, if all seems well otherwise then I wonder if he’s eating elsewhere so he’s not as hungry...

It seems to vary, I’ve had tins where the jelly is very runny, solid or inbetween. I’ve found most cats love all the jelly, but the consistency can differ.

Hi and welcome. Poor lad, he has had it rough bless him. It sounds like you’ve sorted it hopefully but has left him a bit moody, I wonder if all the attention, meds etc has stressed him a bit too. Quite a bit here in S Yorks. We have three ferals, I have a Mr Snugs with straw in and a shed with beds in, which we put up last summer after they had a bad cold. Re: Is this a good food?
Mine love Sheba pouches. I basically feed them what they like in wet and dry, and buy a variety of different types, Whiskas, Gourmet, Felix and many other types, so they don’t get bored, plus they get some of our left overs, chicken, fish etc. We have ferals, who’ve always eaten the same food as our...

One other (silly?) thought, if I'm not anthropomorphosising him too much...some of the time it appears to be because I've not cleaned his litter tray out quick enough...could he be trying to hold it in and failing?!? The pellets have definitely been more frequent over winter...guessing he doesn't l...

Thank you! I’ll look into getting that and seeing how she goes with it. I did also forget to mention - she’s a house cat due to living on a main road in a city centre. We’re just finding it very odd as she doesn’t have fleas and she’s acting as normal before she got this. Yet she just seems to come...
