Good Luck!!!
Cathy - a completely different question; how did you get on registering JJ with the pet insurance and his name only having 2 letters? Wasn't there an issue with H?

Re: Cat possibly swallowed string
It's a tough one.... if he hasn't yet, could Steve do an ultrasound to see if there is anything untoward in the digestive tract? Just in case he did swallow it and it's not passing through. It could end up causing more issues in the long run?

Re: Fleas: Housekeeping rules
Welcome to CatChat and congratulations on your new furry friend, but sorry that you've ended up with more 'friends' than you bargained for. If you can, go to primark and buy some old towels and use them for cat bedding until the flea problem is sorted. Wash the expensive bedding and then put it away...

Thank you for updating - it's great to have first hand feed back from someone. I am hoping that my nephew who lives in Germany will come visit in either March or April and he is allergic so good to know the combination of both does work

Re: Big tins of Supermeat getting harder to find?
That's great :) For the record - I had assumed Morrisons and Sainsbury's got theirs from the same supplier. I have been feeding the birds Sainsbury's for the last couple of weeks as it is easier to get to for me - but I found a tin of the Morrisons one in the cupboard and it is definitely more mois...

Re: Does anyone have a Sureflap pet door? (The large one)
. It seems she bashes the flap and works up momentum - so it opens a bit more with each bash and she gets her head under. if she's going to be doing that then definitely keep the flap unlocked because she could get her tail caught in it as it's opening the wrong way round. It happened to one of min...

Re: Cats indoors and holidays
for what it's worth - I think keeping them both inside whilst you're away is the right decision and they will be fine. They may not be 100% happy but hey, having run of the house is still heaps better than being confined anywhere. And as you say, you've got your neighbour coming twice a day. Enjoy y...

Re: Cats indoors and holidays
Emma, how well do your two cats get on and would Gemo (I take it that's your other cat?) be OK confined to the house or would she go stir crazy? Cats are funny things - I know a cattery isn't an option but just for comparison; a friend of mine whenever they went on holiday would put her lot into a c...

Re: Vibes for Lucy please
I was watching Supervet last night and a Maine Coone was bought in with luxating patellas - as you say not very common in cats but apparently a very simple (according to Noel that is  ) operation taking about 15 mins per knee. Fingers crossed Lucy's weight continues to come down (she's doing lo...

If you're home enough then you need to train Yuki; but it needs to be constant so your mom has to follow through as well. If you see a situation developing call Yuki and say the word NO firmly and loudly enough that she notices but doesn't scare her. Then try distract her with a toy, ideally somethi...

Re: Letting cats outside
Mary - another litter to try is Cats Best which is a wood clumping litter - works really really well and very easy to scoop any clumps. You do have to have at least 5cm deep though. Golden Pine also one and also good to use http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter/clumping_litter/cats_best_oko/...

Re: Letting cats outside
Mary, that litter box under the compost bin idea is brilliant! I've got two outside litter trays but they're such a pain for the cats to get in and out and not exactly the easiest thing to camouflage in a garden. I may just very well copy you on that idea

Re: Letting cats outside
I've cat proofed my garden and whilst not the biggest it isn't the smallest either. And it's done by fixing angled brackets to the fence posts and then running netting along the brackets. I did it myself and (knowing what I know now) should have used stronger netting, but for the most of it it's kep...

Well, didn't get to Morrisons but bought some supermeat (own brand) at Sainsbury instead - it's really really dry though. Abbie doesn't seem overly pleased with it, but will have a nibble at it. Suspect the hedgehogs may be getting most of the tins once they wake up - sigh

I get where you're coming from Ruth and I used to be the same and would still be if it weren't for Harry. I only cat proofed when I got him (cat nr 4) because he really isn't the brightest cat and the first two times I let him out he ended up 10 or so houses down crying at their door. I managed to c...

Not cat related at all, but I saw an advertisement for this https://www.vam.ac.uk/exhibitions/you-s ... ls-1966-70 on the train last night on the way home and it made me think of this thread
So figured I'd post a link in case anyone was interested

Re: Letting cats out for the first time - nervous!
Good re keeping them indoors a bit longer - in all honesty if they're not scrabbling to go out then I'd probably wait until winter is over and done with and no more cold snaps. Just in case they do venture further than they should.... And in the meantime you could try do what I did with mine. Find a...

Valerian is totally natural and 100% safe so not a problem at all. I used to be quite a nervous child and my mom used to give me drops of it on sugar when I was younger ;) it's quite bitter https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pet-Remedy-Natural-Stress-Diffuser-x/dp/B0043QPL4W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484760...

Try valerian - some people don't like the smell though so be warned. Personally i don't find it all that offensive at all. Not sure what you can get but we can get it in liquid form here to mix in with a treat if that would work? Or also as the dried herb, similar to cat nip. Happy to send some over...

Re: Getting a cat to the vets
Actually Emma, Ruth has a good idea there, but rather than a cardboard scratcher - would you be able to get hold of a log with bark and put that somewhere in the house. Diabolo may well use that for scratching and sorting his claws? Admittedly not excactly the most beautiful piece furniture to have ...

7 or 8 weeks is very young, ideal age for a kitten to go to a new home is 12 weeks. That may explain her clingyness. Also at just over 1 she's very young and has lots of energy. He was called Bobby when I got him, but I changed it to Monty... not sure he knew his name to be honest; but the 'ee' sound at the end never changed. Re: Getting a cat to the vets
Yes Emma, mine do go outside. I have six cats in total and up until the acquisition of cat nr 4 - Harry - the other three used to live the normal indoor / outdoor life. But Harry is a bit daft and I soon realised that I had to confine him for his own safety so cat proofed the garden. But I was reall...
