Re: A lost cat poem

I swear I found the full poem online but it's not there now - does anyone know it? It's called: NEVER GET OUT! by JOHN GALSWORTHY I KNEW a little Serval cat -- Never get out! Would pad all day from this to that -- Never get out! From bar to bar she'd turn and turn, And in her eyes a fire would burn...

Re: Cat flap setting 'Entry only'

I think it will be fine. We have a microchip cat flap which we don't currently use as one of my little girls is a danger to herself and is not allowed out, but can prize the door up on an 'Entry only' setting - and I think if it's actually LOCKED, by getting her claws under the opposing edges, prizi...

Hi DaveyP, Wonderful that you rescued this little girl and gave her the chance of a happy life! Cat dynamics - phew. You really are doing very well. Considering your little street girl Aphi did not take kindly to finding residents not from her colony and Coco and Barney had never met a street girl b...

Re: going away for two weeks, worried about my sofina

The cattery looks lovely and clean and pretty cosy - and it looks like you can take some of her blankets and favourite things. I agree I think she'd be better safely there than roaming the neighbourhood. She many even come back liking humans a little better!

Re: going away for two weeks, worried about my sofina

I was going to say our holidays are 2 weeks, and none have shown any signs of stress on our return, either from cat hotel or cat sitting... Also with the boy being allowed out with the cat sitter, we got him familiar with her first and made sure that he would come if she called him, which he does. H...

Re: going away for two weeks, worried about my sofina

Dear Woozy - firstly please don't feel guilty about wanting a holiday - it will do you good and you need to try to look forward to it! I've done the cattery and the cat-sitting route; now as I have 5 a cattery is out of the question, especially as one of mine is a wild boy who I've never even tried ...

Re: Rehoming and behavioural issues - desperate for help.

Oh dear - how terribly sad for you and the cats - and the family that wanted them. There does seem to be a genuine issue with cystitis, generally relating to anxiety I would think - and the fact that one wees when distressed has now rubbed off on the second. I'm thinking that maybe these two need a ...

Oh how awful! Your poor little Fifi! Something has to be done about this dog and the irresponsible owner allowing it off lead to savage neighbourhood cats. Poor little kitten too. Re: Harold is missing from Epsom (FOUND)

Thank you so much Beanie for filling us in! Thank goodness Harold was found safely. Your guidance about looking comparatively close to home and doing the looking yourself is SO important. Cats who are scared and have been trapped in a shed or garage are just as likely to hide as to rush out when the...

Re: Do cats love us?

That's so lovely, Sarah. I think we sometimes do cats a disservice when we anthropomorphize their behaviours, but if bonding is a sign of love (and it's taken to be in the strange situation as well, in a basic sense, then there are many ways that a cat can show you they have bonded with you, althoug...

Some lovely replies, and I don't have any experience of elderly cats, but I can tell you that the pose your little cat is in is adopted even by my youngsters from time to time, and that I agree that you can see in their eyes if they're struggling. The other thing is that when cats are in pain they t...

Absolutely not - the letting out. I wouldn't let him out anyway until he's really confident with you and sure of his home. I took in a feral kitten born in a garage roof space in the garden behind us - mother disappeared. She was 4 months and very scared of humans but made a bond with me as her feed...

Cats do NOT only have sex in March. Cats have sex when they are in heat (in season). This is a female in heat. You need to get your cat spayed or you will soon be joined by kittens... Only true feral cats have seasons - generally spring and autumn - domestic cats can come into season many times a ye...

Hello Nellie's mum! No, it doesn't make sense to me. Cancer doesn't manifest in this way and there are SO many other skin conditions that aren't directly related to fleas. I think you're right and I would ask if someone else could take a look, and maybe a swab and skin scrapes. This would make MUCH ...

Mmm, did you get them through a private arrangement or through a rescue? If the latter, I would have a talk to them about this. I've read many times of rescues taking in cats where the owner has said 'they're inseparable' meaning they tolerate each other and I want you to take them both.... I am sus...

You are being a loving, caring cat-mum, who has a cat who has never been outside and wouldn't know what to do with it! If you manage to cat proof the garden and can then let her gently start to explore, that would be a new experience for her, which she may love. As it is you're not being unfair, you...

Please don't feel awful keeping her in. You're not 'keeping her' against her will; she's scared of the outdoors, and she has the option to stay in a lovely warm house with her own smells, toys, places to explore and the people who love her. Sounds a no-brainer. People keep cats as house-cats for all...

Trap him and have him neutered. I had trouble with a similar unneutered neighbourhood Tom. I asked our vet what to do and they put us in touch with the local RSPCA who worked alongside the vet operating a TNR scheme - trap, neuter, release. The RSPCA lent me a trap, and I started putting food in to ...

Cats don't only wee because they need to go, but to mark territory and to hide the smells of intruders into their territory. I just wonder, as the kitten is marking the human's bedding and the dog's bedding whether he or she is feeling insecure in some way, and trying to mask the unwanted smell? I a...

My, he is a beautiful cat! You could try with the automatic feeder, but I'm not sure it would fulfil the same objective - which is your attention. I think you're doing a lovely thing and you should go with your heart here. If he's comfortable in a pen with other cats (so his timidness is relating to humans, not other cats) then he's giving off all the right signals and given proper introductions he'll be absolutely fine. Regarding your current...
