Re: FIV Behavioural Changes

Awwww he is lovely. If he checks out OK at the vets, it could well be that he's just a 'mixed up kid' as Lilith put it. I've had a couple of cats with bad histories and it can take them a couple of years, or more, to work through various phases as they start to trust, gain confidence and really sett...

Re: Should I Adopt an FIV+ Cat?

I have an elderly FIV+ cat and, although I am aware that his immune system doesn't work as well as it could so I keep a close eye on him, I've don't think I've ever had to take him to the vet due to his FIV status. I tend to bathe any wounds or scratches I see in warm salt water, where in another ca...

Re: Best (Unintended) Cat Toy?

I thought it was just me too! I even feel a bit guilty with those 'thing on a string' toys as they usually don't seem all that robust, so I try to avoid them getting caught and 'killed'. I usually keep a tougher toy on hand that I swop in at opportune moments so that the cats get to go through the f...

I'm glad to hear he's better. I have an FIV+ cat, but not one with a recurring infection, so I'm afraid I have little to add to what you're already doing, and doing very well. xx

Re: Frequent Sloppy Stools

Like Mark, I switched mine to Purina One Sensitive when a couple had sloppy poo and that did help. It often is a case of trying to cut out various food types, one by one, to try to work out which (if any) are causing problems. The usual suspects are wheat and fish.

Well, that at least doesn't sound too scary - I'd bathe it in warm salt water if possible. I hope it heals OK.

Re: Kitty on diet with constipation?

As has been said, no harm in asking the vet as any information is good, but a couple of mine don't poop every day, and never have, so it's not necessarily an issue. Good luck with the diet - your vet's right in that dry food is much more calorific and often is the culprit when a cat is overweight. :)

Re: 3 Rescue Kittens. Advice greatly appreciated.

You've done a lovely thing in taking on these kittens, good on you. To add to Kay's excellent advice, their mother would set boundaries and curb any over-boisterous rough play by hissing, and there's no reason why you shouldn't do the same as they develop - if they get a bit rough when playing with ...

Re: What Age/Size Is It Okay To Let Kittens Out?

If it helps, like alanc I used to have a teeny, dinky little cat who was more than capable of holding her own and was actually the one of my gang to finally put the local Burmese bully cat in his place! Her mum, aunts and uncle, who were all much bigger, wouldn't go near him including uncle Rottie -...

As has been said, once they have been neutered (and now they have had their jabs) then you can start letting them out under supervision, as you have been. If they've not been neutered, absolutely not!! :D

I'm sorry to hear of your problems. My only experience of steroids has been as a means to treating diarrhea (successfully) so I'm afraid I'm not much help. I have had several older cats with gut problems and malabsoption issues and certainly changing her diet is a good stert, but what you really nee...

I have nothing really useful to add, but just wanted to add my voice to the others in agreement. God luck, I really hope you manage to sort things out. Just a thought, but do make sure you clean the areas that get sprayed with a biological cleaner (biological washing liquid/powder works) to break do...

I'm so sorry to hear this, and I really hope that you get some better news next week. Re: Letting a new cat out for first time

I would leave it a bit longer, you need to make sure he views your home as a safe place to run back to if he gets scared and that usually takes 3/4 weeks. Next time, let him out just before dinner time, go with him, and then call him back in for his dinner after 5 or 10 minutes to get him used to co...

Re: Moving and introducing a new cat. How to do it right?

I think in your place I would try to plan ahead by setting up their safe spaces where they would have best access to where they are likely to want to be - perhaps your two upstairs and your brother's cat near access to the outdoors, if possible. That should give them less opprtunity to fall out when...

Re: Incoming ....... Buzz

I've not posted much about Buzz, partly because he's just been pottering about in his pen with nothing to report and partly because he was definitely up for rehoming so I'm wary of getting too involved. Poor little sod has waited all summer for someone to notice him, but at last a lovely lady saw hi...
