Well we noted he was drinking a little more when we adopted him but maybe this is a little worse now. It could be the metrobactin has side effects. Roll on tonights appointment.booktigger wrote:I would definitely mention the thirst, wonder if the increase could be a side effect of the antibiotics

Re: Cat licking concrete
Kidney issues can be picked up through a blood test, but not always early stages - urine tests are more accurate for kidney and diabetes, has he had one of those? Licking odd things is called Pica and is normally related to anaemia - has he been tested for FIV/FeLV? I did ask about FIV etc and they...

Re: Cat licking concrete
Well he had 2 blood counts done. Surely diabetes or kidney issues would get picked up with them? It mentioned high protein levels but not sure whether that relates to these illnesses or not. I will certainly mention it this evening. Kidney issues can be picked up through a blood test, but not alway...

Re: Cat licking concrete
Well the house is like a pebbledash so would of had a mouthful of that and the patio is a smooth stone so both very different surfaces. At first I thought there was something on the patio he was licking but when I saw him licking the wall and the fact he has history of something as well as the drink...

Cat licking concrete
We (and the vet) have suspected for a while Grany has some illness but has been hard to tell what. His tests have shown FIP is negative but he has very high protein levels, enlarged lymph nodes in tummy and his kidneys are slight malformed, although the vet said this can happen in cats and does not ...

Re: Help with cat peeing indoors
Glad that he used the tray. I bet if that was the problem he will be much happier for that. Unfortunately as cat’s can’t tell us what they want, we have to read their signals and sometimes it’s not easy to fathom them out lol! Paws crossed it continues :) Bit like men then  Yup, hopefully no s...

Re: Help with cat peeing indoors
Thankyou for the replies, I put one down last night and he has used it loads for peeing, not for poo and my hubbie said he did go outside late last night, so can do so. The food situation was a problem but we bought a Sureflap microchip feeder and has changed things dramatically so Gemo cannot get a...

Re: Help with cat peeing indoors
You should have at least one indoor litterbox. At least give it a try. My cat broke both back legs and when came home we tried to put another tray with different litter because he couldn't move much... poor dear. He didn't do a bit. He was used to do in ''his'' litterbox with his litter... and so, ...

Re: Help with cat peeing indoors
Well I am confused because a lot of websites say it could be due cat litter etc, well he doesn't have a litter tray indoors...should he as Gemo the other cat doesn't? They both normally go outside. Grany is 2 years old and spayed but does have health issues and is under the vet for check ups but we ...

Re: Sudden death in cats
I am so sorry to hear this. How traumatic for you all. I know nothing about this either but just wanted to let you know how sorry I am. It is bad enough dealing with an unwell cat as we are but when it is as sudden as that it comes as a real shock.

Re: Pulling stairs instead of cat scratcher
Well we put our scratch post next to where he is clawing and that seems to work on the whole. Unfortunately animals are animals and have to expect a degree of wear and tear as you would with a dog. One of our cats scratched our lovely leahter chairs the other day which we weren't best pleased about....

Re: Help with cat peeing indoors
Try to buy urine off, it helped for me and my cat. Also try to put a litter box near that place. Cats are territorial animals and could possibly be the case. My cat was peeing in all divisions including carpets, walls, curtains, kitchen walls etc. We bought urineoff spray and it was a surprise. Fir...

Help with cat peeing indoors
Our Grany has been peeing indoors. I noticed a mark on the carpet under the stairs but didn't think it was this and has been there weeks. We noted it today to be Grany peeing there and want to know how we can stop this. I can shut him out of that area which is fine, and have washed it with washing p...

Re: Microchip cat feeder
Update fo you. This thing at the moment is working and amazing! No more chasing Gemo away from the dish and Grany is happy using it now too. Our neighbour has been looking after the cats and when we got home the feeder was open...not sure why and he was hungry, hence why she left it open and Gemo ha...

Re: Safe food for cats ie chicken etc
Janey...he'seating Gourmet! Don't quite believe it. I bought the pate and the ordinary but wish I had bought 2 pate as he can lick that! He loves it...AT THE MOMENT! Thank you for the heads up on Gourmet. He is even using the microchip feeder, although is still eating a little with his paws. :) Gre...

Re: Microchip cat feeder
I'm glad Grany has taken to the feeder. I hope it continues to go well, and you'll know that he is getting his own food. It should help Gemo's waistline as well! It won't happen overnight, He didn't eat anything overnight so I am leaving some chicken on the mat. Except I think Gemo has had more of ...

Re: Do all younger cats play?
Ahh thank you. Reassuring words. He has had to overcome Gemo eating his food too and that has been disruptive to him as we have had to move his food and try new things, I had to sign a disclaimer when we adopted him which said he bites but he does a playful nip but you cannot call it a bite. I expec...

Re: Do all younger cats play?
We adopted him about 6 weeks ago. By all accounts he was taken in to the refuge by a family after he bit a child. He has not bitten us, only playful nipping. I think he may have been with young children teasing him. He has had a few trips to the vet which hasn't helped his confidence. He does occasi...

Re: Safe food for cats ie chicken etc
We do so will look out. I will see how he gets on with gourmet as I have x2 - 4 kilo sacks of Iams and RC gastro which is still unused as well as copius amount of Felix, Whiskas etc so really must stick to the gourmet for now. I will see how his weight does. I must be careful not to change his food ...

Re: Safe food for cats ie chicken etc
Thanks again. Small steps will hopefully help him. Great to see him eating some cat food although the vet said him not eating dried food is a little worrying so would love to hear whether other cats won't tollerate dry food of any form.

Re: Microchip cat feeder
WELL...so far so good. Grany has taken quite well to the feeder and no more Gemo stealing his food. He has done well for his first feed and does use his paws from time to time which could be a problem but am confident after his first feed he will do OK. Thanks all for the advcie on these. I hope I w...

Do all younger cats play?
We need to have a better understanding of our cats behaviour and as a new adoption we know he has been or is unwell of some degree. We know his eating is not great but do all cats of around 2 years old play? Grany doesn't and know an underlying illness may be to blame but he prefers to stay indoors ...

Re: Safe food for cats ie chicken etc
If you’ve not tried Gourmet it’s worth a try? It’s odd not any cat food at all as he’s obviously got some appetite if he’s eating the other food. I have just been to the supermarket Janey and bought some whilst I was there! Wish me luck. He also has a sureflap microchip feeder now so god knows what...

Re: Safe food for cats ie chicken etc
I have tried lots. I do mixwhiskas or RC wet into his chicken etc but is good at picking around that. He doesn't eat any dried food what so ever, The vet said that a very fussy cat in this way does show he is unwell, we are just struggling to find out why. He is going back in 10 days for a check up....

Re: Best worming treatment?
I just dosed Willow with Milbemax - I think she missed out last time (she's very sneaky) but I conned her with some evap milk! Have you heard of observence? It is a like a beef pate. You buy it from the vets and can mould it around a tablet. It works a treat and they are none the wiser that t...
