Cat has corn on foot

My cats are keeping me busy this week....my beautiful grey tortie has a corn on her foot. I've never had one but my sister says they can be painful. The vet prescribed painkillers as she has arthritis too. She's a senior kitizen. Anyone had experience with kitty corns? Does she need some sort of kit...

Re: Pain killers - Maximum metacam dose for palliative care?

Thanks guys ☺ they've told me she can increase the frequency of the vetergesic pain killer not the metacam. They are very cautious about giving me more than a weeks worth as its a controlled drug though being an opiate. Bit annoyed at the vet nurse i spoke to last night who was trying to tell me i w...

Pain killers - Maximum metacam dose for palliative care?

Apologies for the second thread, but I wondered what experiences others here had of metacam dosage? My cat is on metacam once a day and also Vetergesic (an opiate pain killer.) Stupidly last week for a few days I mis read the dosage and gave her metacam twice a day. Stopped as soon as I realised, bu...

Re: Mouth cancer

I just found this thread. It's unbearable for me to read, but Angie and others the advice you give is touching a nerve with me. I watch over my cat who has the same illness day and night for signs that it's time to go...it's 2 weeks since I had the bad news. I can see you had 6 weeks with Hamish.......

Re: To operate, or not to operate...

Horrible decision. My Alice had a lump in her breast area, the vet never tested it but felt that if it was cancer it would be such a hugh invasive operation that at her age (not exactly known, but around 15-16 yo). It never actually seemed to cause her any bother, she died a few years later from kid...

Mouth cancer or bone infection in jaw - is there any hope?

I posted on here last week about my vet wanting to have my cat PTS, I just wondered if anyone has any positive experiences with either of these serious illnesses or if we should just be enjoying every minute together? All summer holiday plans are off, I don't want to miss a day or night with her... ...

Re: New cat/old cat

You need to take this right back to the start - a week and a half is far to quick to just chuck them together - they need time - your old cat might still be wondering where his buddy is - my cat waited at our back gate for weeks for her friend to come home after he was in a RTA. Have you done the re...

Re: scratching at bedroom door-how to stop??

I'm so lucky that mine have been well trained not to disturb me at night (I sleep with my door open.) They can get on and off the bed without waking me now. If on the odd time I need to lock some of them out , I use the same tactics, but actually only one cries to get in. It's sounds hard but you re...

Re: Cat has hole in roof of mouth - vet wants to pts

Hello Cruella, nice to 'see' some old faces around (-: The thing I struggle with is them putting me under pressure to make such a horrible decision based on just an xray, rather than how she is, in herself. I was in total shock. I'm a SO glad I did not agree to have her PTS now. I'm having nightmare...

Re: Cat has hole in roof of mouth - vet wants to pts

Yes we've been using this vet 14 years I do trust them. Today was a massive shock for me and her. The vet showed me the x-rays when I went to collect her and the dark area which should have been showing as bone which apparently means bone density isn't as it should be. She feels tumour is most likel...

Cat has hole in roof of mouth - vet wants to pts

So my 14 yo cat stopped eating a few weeks back. Went in for a dental and seemed to go rapidly downhill after that. She's in today again because her mouth has been bleeding when she eats. They've xrayed and examined her and say she has a hole in the roof of her mouth (this was not mentioned at the d...

I had a cat with very severe HCM and she was on fortekor for many years and we had another 5 wonderful years but i lost her after taking her to my vet for cystitis and she was given 2 injections. Re: Possible health problems with feral cats

I've got a feral, had her for several years now and I honestly don't think I will ever be able to touch her - I laugh when people tell me put spot ons on her when she gets near - I did manage to get programme down her for de fleaing and obviously worming is fine, but anything else then she has to be...

Re: Non drug remedies for feline arthritis?

Thank you - it's funny because I really don't consider him to be an 'old' cat at ten years old - my last cat was around 18 (you never quite know with rescues) and I have other cats who are older, several others around the same stage (that dates my fostering height to around ten years ago, I was the ...

Re: Non drug remedies for feline arthritis?

Goodness, I just assumed that it would be the legs which were arthritic, never occurred to me that the spine might be affected too. I've booked him to see our regular vet in the morning. I'll see what he says but I'll also take a look at the other options suggested. He seems to be fit in every other...

Re: Non drug remedies for feline arthritis?

hello Meriad, that's a great reply, thank you. He's so outdoorsey that he does like to spend daytime in the shed in his bed out there (my cats all kept in at night), and although I have 2 of the petnap heat pads, for my other elderly cats, he has never shown any interest in them. I've also got a hea...

Non drug remedies for feline arthritis?

One of my rescue cats is starting to walk like Robocop and I suspect arthritis. Obviously a trip to the vet is in order (not fun as he's an ex feral) but I had some Loxicom (pain killer/anti inflammatory i believe) from another vet trip just a few weeks ago and I tried him on that and he seemed bett...

Re: Yankee candles

I did a bit of research on this because of my own asthma and suspected it in one of my cats too and it seems that scented candles are a big culprit. I still use mine, but will only burn them in Winter (seems to have less effect) and only for a limited period of time. My asthmatic cat was a feral who...

Re: Droncit vs Drontal or Milbemax

Milbemax has the advance of being smaller to administer, but shame it's vet only and therefore expensive, I'm currently taking care of 8 of my own plus 5 of my neighbours who seem to think that food and shelter are 'optional' extras.....worming is getting less often because of the high cost...I know...

Re: BUTCHERS CLASSIC TINNED FOOD ? HOW GOOD IS IT PLEASE ?

A few people have mentioned avoiding fish varieties - Crewella mentioned a link with cystitus - I've never heard this before. The Home Bargains ones are often the fish varieties. Does anyone know what the link might be? I moved my lot onto Butchers after reading the research for my poor little calic...

Re: New routines and staying in at night times

Very wise of you to keep your cat in cat night. Is there any way you could add a cat run to the back of your house? I've always kept mine in at night, even when I've taken in new adult rescues who have been allowed out all night, but they are much happier and more settled now they can at least be 'o...

Re: Lump and scabbing at vaccination site

Tiffany's bare patch and broken skin following vaccination got worse over three boosters, despite changing the vaccine formula, and my vet has advised not to give any further doses - switching to her leg would only make things worse, as she would be able to get to the sore place why it happens seem...

Re: Lump and scabbing at vaccination site

Hello, sorry for the slow reply. I've booked her a vet visit (I've spoken to the surgery a couple of times about her too) but I'm putting Sudocreme on the site twice a day and it seems to be healing and the lump is going down - which is odd in itself. The skin looked really red and sore yesterday mo...
